Texturism is a huge problem. My grandmother gave me preferential treatment over my sister because my hair was softer, finer. My sister's hair is 4c while mine is 3b. We can both grow our hair very long though. I really think it's gross when grown people do this to children, it's disturbing.

When your dark and have a looser curl pattern, youre exoticized, regardless of how dark you are. If anything, its even 'better'. Its not common for dark people to have that look unless their Indian.

I have 3C hair that’s waist length. I started wearing wigs a year ago to experiment with different styles. My father asked me why I was wearing wigs when I have all this hair. I told him it was for fun. He told me there are going to be a lot of BW who mad that I’m wearing wigs when I already have long hair. I laughed because I thought he was joking. But, after finding your videos I realize he’s right.

You are right high quality synthetic wigs look better and its less expensive than human hair wigs.

Do you realise that a girl can be extremely dark and have loose curls and would be called beautiful and have people chasing her but a next girl with the same complexion and 4c hair is ignored. This is so weird. .Also synthetic curl pattern is gorgeous and is not wet and soggy even if you add a little moisturizer or oil on it. The curls pop more whether body wave or curly.

I agree that texturism is a bigger deal. It’s the first thing black people tend to look at when determining if you’re mixed or not in their opinion. I was told I look like I have “mixed breed hair” when I straightened it. And when I was at my darkest, my hair is what people asked about the most.

As someone with 4C hair…I’m currently relaxed and I now wear Afro and kinky curly wigs because it’s easier to manage straight hair and tear up a kinky wig with all the manipulation! So I get the best of both worlds because everyone thinks my hair is natural but I can also have the ease of straight hair

I agree. Type 4 hair here. I’ve been natural my WHOLE life. Never cut, perm, nothing. My hair is long. The fact that it’s long make other dark skin black women interrogate me. “Is it real, is it yours, how long have you been natural, what are you, how do you manage, how do you take care of it?” And the telling me what type i am… when i say I’m type 4. “Type 4 what?” 🙄 the assumption that I don’t like me hair? Wtf. It’s a life style at this point… I also am not a fan of socializing in the grocery store… Also I’m not used to what i look like with a wig on… i do think 4c girl have gotten so much “nappy headed hoe” and “bad hair” comments that they believe it.

im the opposite i love my 4c hair. i dont force it to do styles it doesnt want to do i only do mini twists, braids outs and afro styles. before i used to relax my hair but then i went natural slowly started to embrace it more and as i have glowed up(cleared my skin and at a better weight) ive been treated better. i think alot of 4c girlies compare their hair to ppl with looser hair types and have the unreal expectation of their hair looking or working the same. my beauty standard is a long voluminous twist out, giant afro and a 90s/70s straight blow out.

I feel the same way about blonde hair. Like.. its okay for uabw to wear platnium blonde wigs, but if i do it then people accuse me of "acting white" lol.

I have low midback 3c,4a hair with some silver Grey's sprinkled in the front of my hair. I had a lady tell me I should dye my hair. I told her I'm good with my greys. She proceeded to say "well I dye mines I'm not trying to look old",the whole time I'm thinking that's your thoughts,stop projecting.

19:41 yes! this is exactly why I’ve always hated the “why do women w type 4 hair always get it straightened or wear wigs for special events” talking point. it’s because our natural hair is probably how a lot of us wear it on a regular basis and the special event gives us an excuse to spend $200 on a wig or to risk the heat damage on a silk press bc it’s a *special* event 😭

I am not a fan of 4c hair. It is very hard to manage and when I go out with my hair I attract the dustiest of men. So it is a hell no for me. There is an assumption that you can't afford to get your hair done or that you are lazy when you wear 4c hair out. Everyone else can wear their natural hair but 4c hair is not popular nor liked by society.

When the natural hair movement was happening, I was so excited! I genuinely enjoyed seeing healthy type 3 AND type 4 natural styles and hair care routines. Any hair type is beautiful when it's healthy, maintained and styled. Even if I tried to make a compliment on here about type 4 hair, I'll probably get gas-lit, so I'll just keep my compliments to myself. It has happened before elsewhere online. Unfortunately.

This is so true!! I’m brown skin with 3c-4a curly hair and other black people see me as “exotic”. And will ask me “what do you put in your hair to make it curly?” uhh water… lol and when I tell them they automatically assume I’m mixed with something. And I notice a lot of black men prefer me over other black girls bc according to them I look “exotic” but black men are NOT my preference at all!! 😭

That is soooo interesting to me! As a girl with short 4c hair, I prefer looooong straight hair OR my big curly wig (I do it in a way that makes the hair as fluffy as possible). People on Reddit always try to say that ohhhhh natural hair is best blah blah blah but we all know that it’s a lie. It was very sad how much easier my life has become after finding the right wigs 😭.

I’m brown skin with 2 black parents but I have 3c4a hair. My dad is light skin with 3b hair and my mom is dark skin with 4c hair. I came out with more of my dad’s features and got mistakened for being biracial growing up. I was also told I had pretty hair a lot whenever I got a silk press and by many older black women. Ngl, I make sure my curls are on point most of the time because I love the compliments I get when I have it out. I feel like it helps me stand out at my diverse university where there’s not a lot of black people.

Oh, I admit to wearing weaves in ombré/ balayage dyed styles because my natural hair is turning grey and it’s easier for me to keep my roots darker/ leave out. Trust me ladies, it won’t matter when you get older. You better wear whatever hairstyles/ fashion you want for you before you leave this earth, not for men, and I tell bw most bm don’t prefer bw anyways.

I hate being told I need to do something with my hair type 4 hair when the night before I did a whole 8-step haircare routine from 4pm to 7-8pm. I’m gonna start wearing wigs (that look like my hair) and braids more bcs I can’t do it, I’m too lazy lol.

i remember finally falling in love with my natural 4b hair, after being relaxed for a long time. I shaved my head at least twice, played with color and and once i had left it alone, i achieved shoulder length. i love iit especially when flat ironed. its super versatile, synthetic clip ins are great to change colour in a second. my natural hair, I will be keeping for myself.because - humidity is just a stuggle. I hate human hair extensions because i don't want some random persons keratin/energy and its a bit like taking someones old hairbrush. There are a some amazing synthetic brands with a slight yaki texture so they're not too shiny/dolly. also dry shampoo or talcum is a secret.

It always amazes me how some people feel the need to give you their opinion about you when you didn’t even ask them for it. Ladies if anyone ever comes up to you with rude advice tell them you work in a plastic surgeons office and they need to have work done on their face because their face looks strange. Only say this if they are not crazy of course. It shocks them and they don’t know what to say. It works every time. I hate it when people give advice that you didn’t ask them for. YES! There's also alot of jealousy towards people with looser texture hair or straight hair. I have straight hair and I always get complements when I wear it down but this specific girl......she WILL NOT AND CANNOT give a complement without it being backhanded. E.g:Your hair looks good but its short. Your hair looks good but its 'stiff'

I definitely can relate to this because all my life I’ve been told I have pretty long hair. I remember one day I decided to wear my hair out of my usual mini twist hairstyle for school & I got so many compliments from my friends, classmates & even my teachers! I was always called nappy headed and it really gave me a complex to where I’d constantly over process my hair, I’d leave the relaxer in until it started sticking to my scalp 🥴 I was looking like a ken doll 😂I’m lucky my hair didn’t fall out . Now that I’m older I’ve learned to embrace my natural texture and I’m actually comfortable with it 😁 I think once you reach a certain age, you don’t really care what other people think about you anyway 😂

You're absolutely correct. My sister is very pale and has honey colored eyes, but she has 4 type hair, grown women and our school mates used to make very mean comments about her hair unprovoked. I have light brown skin and curly hair and people weren't nearly as mean, here in Brazil the norm is bone straight hair or artificial waves, even 3 type hair is looked down upon, people with 4 type hair suffer even more, the kids would even make fun of her when she straightened it because they claimed that it didn't look naturally straight

I looooove my INH hair pony tails. I have thick type 3 hair and when I put my hair in a pony tail, it’s straightens out to a loose wave. I can wear ANY style or texture of their ponytails because my roots match soooo well 😌 I am obsessed with fake ponies. Other than that, i usually wear my hair out or in two braids with a silk scarf. I just like it to be easy!

3:51 i like synthetic wigs too but you should definitely try Burmese curly hair. I got it from “goddeshair” and it’s the best curly hair I’ve ever tried. Like doesn’t tangle and i think would be such a good match for most mixed people who want to add length or fullness to their natural curls. I saw a lot of black girls promoting it as the best curly hair but a lot of them were using closures and getting wigs with this hair texture. Which is interesting considering they don’t have that hair texture typically.

Now I think I understand why UADS would tell me my hair wasn’t “fixed” even when I would comb it or go to the hair salon. They just didn’t like my 4B/4C texture or multicultural-centered style. Plus, the styles I wore when I straightened my hair were not Black male-centered, urban or hood. It was just straight with no bend, no curl, no flip, nothing extra - for the most part.

Not going to lie , texturism in the black community doesn’t actually need to exist . If you want your hair curly get a texturised or if you want straight hair then get a relaxer 😂 There is also option for weaves , wigs and prefer synthetic wigs more too , to get more a natural look❤

I love wearing soft 2016 Alicia Keys curly hair because it brings out my beautiful features and I receive good treatment from people. When people give me compliments I accept it without shooting myself in the foot.

I have 2A hair and I’m a golden caramel light skin complexion, I always feel good that my hair is beautiful, I love wigs and I own a lot of them and my brother always gets angry when I wear my wigs he always says I don’t understand why you wear these wigs you literally have white people hair 😑🙄 I just don’t know what that had to do with me wearing wigs. This is all just about power dynamics. If black people were the most powerful then 4c hair would be deemed the standard and people would think it was the most beautiful. The is is all just about programming and training. Kinky hair people need to learn to love their hair regardless what the world thinks and consider it glamourous and it would help. But until the power structure shifts it's going to be the same with straightest lightest the most copied. It has nothing to do with actual beauty and everything to do with psychology. Because all hair is beautiful and could be deemed the most beautiful of markets as such for generations.

But on the top going straight down the back, a very loose wave with nonexistent curls. It spikes out straight on the end.
