Mark Goldbridge reacts to his Premier League Predictions from the start of the season. There's a couple of stinkers in there but also a couple of Goldbridge ball levels insight.

he didn’t predict arsenal to finish top 4 but he predicted they’d overperform, im not hating but arsenal were expected to finish 5th or 4th so him saying they wouldn’t get top 4 but saying they’d over perform doesn’t make sense

Special mention for Brighton. Outstanding manager and recruitment on a different level for a club of that size. One of the teams of the season.

Big omission no mention of Newcastle; the most improved team in the Premier League. To go from rock bottom without a win after the first 14 games of last season, to qualify for the Champions League this season is nothing short of remarkable. This is not due to splashing out money. Half the team were playing in the side which was rock bottom last season. The success is due to brilliant coaching and some shrewd purchases.

they have made the right signings, but it did take around £300M spent across 2 transfer windows so they were always going to rise, not expected to rise this much this quick though

@@benhicks9481 damn, I never knew it was 300mil they spent... regardless, they havent made the most flashy signings, and half of their older squad is still playing. So big credit to the toons and especially Eddie Howe. Many clubs and managers will waste that 300mil. But they silently strengthend where needed and rose above the competition. Newcastle, Brighton, Brentford, and Villa are making the premier league exciting again. I am a Spurs fan (because my family basically forced me to become one) I love and hate this club equally. The owners have torn down all football heritage for hotels, and commercial success which sucks. Is it wrong of me to also support Newcastle, Brighton, Brentford and Villa from a neutral stand point?

@@aurochsbeats yeh its around £300M, different sources will quote slightly different fees but its roughly that. Like we both said they still deserve credit for spending it wisely and sticking with Howe.

We have spent £220mil across 3 windows. Where you get this £300mil from is mad. Manchester United spent the same in just 1 summer window as our 3 combined. It’s the development of players that has seen us rise. Miggy, Schar, Big Joe, Willock, Murphy - all through Eddies coaching.

As someone who has only followed EPL for several years, I have fallen in love with relegation and promotion. What an intense setup; it creates such incredible narratives. Everton, Leicester, Leeds, Luton? The tension has been palpable.

Quite pleased with my Arsenal 3rd prediction. Some of their performances last season were incredible and ruined by red cards. No red cards all season. I was confident they would finish above Man united, spurs and chelsea.

It wasnt so surprising for them to go top three. Because they had more stability and were further along trusting their coach and trusting their management to build a squad that is growing together. Cfc, spurs and manu were all still very unstable and volatile. It just shows that there is and will always be sensible in football to build and trust in the process. Arsenal didnt spend that much at all… Arsenal dont have the best, nor a proven coach and a coach that received great criticism. And they made mistakes like letting martinez leave… (leno had been great so it was sensible actually) And despite that they kept on going and building. If Manu wont do the same or chelsea or spurs and so on… They will fall out of the top teams and newcastle will step in. All the teams in the prem have enough money to find a good young coach, hire competent staff and then build around a plan with great success.

Including Goldbridge, as all he said was there was an opportunity for them to finish top 4, not that they were going to. He hedged his bets. So it obviously was surprising for a lot of so-called experts!

I never understand why people always predict the 3 newly promoted teams to go straight back down. Its only happened once in prenier league history 97/98

It's always the safest prediction. It may be rear for all three promoted teams to go back down, but it's very often for one of two of them to be immediately relegated, especially if they are Norwich and Fulham. So, by predicting all three, you, most often than not, get at least one right. Also, the midtable teams are usually very unpredictable. No one at the start of the season would have been surprised if Cristal Palace and Brighton had finished the season in 9th-10th place, and no one would have been especially shocked if they were relegated. Whereas the newly promoted teams are almost always fighting for their survival.

@rhys burns Totally agree. I'd like it very much if Luton managed to stay up. And Burnley, and Sheffield United have decent quality in their teams. They are certainly not worse than Everton. But most bookies will have them going down. It is what it is.

Arsenal over achieved and I have had a wonderful season enjoying their performances up until April when the wheek came off. I am lookinbg forward to next year's predictions.

I think if they get a good manager in and let him move some player's out 4 to 6 and bring in a striker and one other they should be about there they've got enough quality there it just needs a trim a striker and a man with a plan..... We also lost 7-0 to Liverpool which our grandkids are going to get bullied about, but he finished 3rd in a season where Chelsea and Liverpool weren't ever serious so he's overachieved? I don't have an issue with the guy, but winning a trophy and being in the CL was absolute bare minimum for anyone who actually has standards.

@Heel Hook but this season was all about defense. Our defense got us to where we are. We had no Striker. So where would the goals come from to win games? We were lucky Rashford had a unreal season. We wouldn't be where we are without having the least goals at old trafford, especially in a decade. We should be able to challenge for the title next season when we bring in a World Class striker.

As you say my slight surprise is because Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs all flopped this season, enabling Utd to finish above them all. Look at pre season predictions and the majority would have had Utd below those 3 teams.

Tbf I'm pretty sure we hadn't signed Casemiro when that video was made and there were still huge question marks over Martinez being able to cope with the prem and Rashford was woeful the previous season, no one could've predicted he would go on to have his best season for United after arguably having his worst.

Man city, man utd and newcastle i think will be strong next season and be comfortable in the top 3, while the likes of lpool, arsenal, chelsea, villa, brighton and spurs will be fighting for the top 4. Will be intresting next season.

I’m an arsenal fan and had us nailed on for top 3 from the start of the season with a potential outside title challenge. I have no idea why everyone anticipated arsenal to not get top 4, we were so close to top 4 last year, we made great signings in the transfer window and were unreal in preseason

From my own predictions my biggest win was predicting Arsenal 3rd and Chelsea 6th. Most people had Arsenal way out of top 4 and Chelsea definitely top 4. I got the rise of Arsenal and the fall of Chelsea correct. My biggest flop predictions were the relegation teams, also did not predict Aston Villa and Brentford doing so well.

If the first possibility is wrong then the second is a lot more likely to be right and give yourself credit for that and call yourself being ahead of the curve. And if the second possibility is wrong then the first is going to be right and give yourself credit🤦‍♂🤦‍♂

If we had won those games then we would’ve pushed City further but we still wouldn’t have won the league, all that would’ve happened is that it be more devastating when we eventually lost out

Everton have absolutely no chance next season. They'll need to have the best summer transfer and most dramatic board changes the club's ever had for even a sniff of hope but is it gonna happen? Not even close. Bagsy I'll say they'll be catastrophically, spectacularly bad next year and it'll be all over before anyone knows it. As for The bottom three teams, well I hope we don't see them again. REALLY should be FOUR relegation spots in the PL; I would sort that out and quick. Congratulations to Burnley, Sheffield United and Luton Town and all the best👍 massive commiserations to Coventry.

Man Utd has a quality squad very similar to the one OGS took to 2nd place two years ago. It seems most of the fix may have consisted of getting rid of the disturbance surrounding Ronaldo and getting them pulling in the same direction. This also means, for all the goldfish memory pundits out there, that the failings of Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea this year might be completely solvable blips. I think apart from Man City being obvious title contenders (even without a single signing), the top half of the table is a complete toss up next season.
