What he didn't mention was the defensive structure of Tottenham. Maguire can make those passes but Spurs were very compact. Spurs were incentivising United to take advantage of the 3v2 mismatches on the edge of the defensiv structure, they knew that United did not have the quality fullbacks to take advantage of these mismatches. Added to the fact is that United's tempo is very slow sometimes so they find it hard to pull defenders out of shape. This defensive setup would work a lot less with Liverpool for example due to Trent and Robertson.

Not a no brainer. Solksjaer is still tryna build the character of this team. Yes we are challenging for top 4 and the result is important but we need to make sure we are preserving the character and confidence of all our players primarily. Pogba and Greenwood could have come on at 30 mins, it was quite clear we lacked an outlet in the right and quality in the midfield. Solksjaer did the right things. Its more important to see what effect your team talk can have and see how the team adjusts to your half-time instructions. The tempo at which United came out 2nd half was very good, but then you saw there was a lack of quality. So Pogba came in at right time for me. It gave space for the team too respond to Ole's adjustments and gauging the effect. When you not getting the desired effect then its time to bring on your players. Both Subs were the right guys in and the right guys off.. football fans really need to educate themselves, managing and coaching requires social intelligience as much as requires tactical intelligience. I know watching is different because we see the issues in plain sight. But trust me coaches can see what we see generally. The way I judge substitutions is whether or not it was the right sub. The timing of the subs is not as significant. If solksjaer hooked off James at 30 mins when it was clear as day that he was struggling he would destroy his confidence and prolly lose the player. Lets players stick it out and see if they come through.

@@lwandilemsiza8027 I get your point with the man management and giving players confidence and yes, taking James off in the 30th minute would be embarrassing for him and demoralising. What I just mean is, it was very clear that needed creativity from the back and we had the correct player for that. Even Jim Begling said Pogba should come on ASAP during the 49th or 50th minute. Also, I think martial should've stayed on pitch and played as a LW and Rashford should've come off. Martial was bad but Rashford was even worse. Obviously it's easy for us fans to say all these and managers do know more than us. But some things were obvious to do which he didn't and I stated out those. I reckon we will struggle again against Sheffield . If Chris Wilder plays a low block, I can see a very frustrating game. Hopefully not
