"While an exhaustive study is not the preserve of this video..." Could have fooled me. I just want to say that when this series began I was idling away in a tolerable, but unfulfilling retail job. This channel and series genuinely inspired me to chase my passions and I'm now studying history at university. I dont know where this chapter if my life will take me, but I have to take the opportunity to thank you BML and other channels that are so passionate about the subjects they cover. Your example means a lot!

As someone who knows a little bit about video editing I must say that you've stepped it up considerably. The cut scenes, use of graphic inserts, GIS level tactical analysis, musketry demonstrations, resources and personal investment to splice it all together is no small feat. Maple Leaf Up indeed. Outstanding

This is why I watch Rob, the way he meshes firearms and military history together is amazing. He gives you historical reference and value of that specific firearm in a history lecture setting. Glad to see you finally finish this, what may be so far your magnus opus. This was an amazing series from an era I still wouldn't know much about without your channel. I very much enjoyed the in-depth analysis that goes well into the conditions of the men, the ground, and really explaining the situation, both in how it was, and how the commanders would have perceived it.

Thanks for completing your excellent series on this battle. Amazing that the videos span three years. I have read some accounts of Inkerman but seeing it presented like this makes everything much clearer and easier to follow. As well as the other lasting tributes and memorials to the Crimean War that were mentioned, there are multiple uses of Inkerman, Alma and Malakoff for roads and place names in the UK and France.

There is of course one other 'memorial' worth mentioning. Still to be seen in Wollo province in Ethiopia is 'Sebastopol', an enormous mortar cast by the Emperor Tewodros as part of his artillery park. It was named in honour of the war and the importance of artillery there. The gun was abandoned by the Emperor's army as it marched to its last stand at the fortress of Magdala, being pursued by the forces of General Robert Napier during the British Ethiopian war of 1868. Interestingly that was introduced another new firearm, just as the Crimean saw the P51. The snider was used first in combat at Magdala with devastating effect. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebastopol_(mortar)

This isn’t really relevant to the video but what is the purpose of the ram rod on the martini henry?

It's not a ramrod... it's a Cleaning (and clearing) Rod. There is a video(s) on preliminary training in the Martini era that describes its use.

Today rifle companies have a rally cry. One chosen word that indicates that you are stop tactical movement and advance as one with fixed bayonets.

Where does a man find a bear skin Beefeater bonnet?
@britishmuzzleloaders

Three mutually exclusive things, those. 😀..... It is a bearskin, but it's actually a cap. The Beefeaters don't wear bearskins they wear flat Tudor hats and only the Jocks wear bonnets!... Haha! But, I secured the use of it from a friend....

The real question is, is can an unabashed British Canadian loyalist militia expert on the Baker infantry rifle, collaborate with a crown despising Canadian patriot who also has a Baker rifle? I got one to use as a period correct prop and make videos and, as I started my research on learning how to properly fire and maintain my gun I saw that you were already doing exactly what I was thinking of doing, but also kind of the opposite, kind of... My interest is the truthful telling of the persecution and punishments of early settler Canadians by both the British and Canadian (still British) soldiers specifically in and around the 1837-39 rebellions, the battle of Batoche 1885 and the many of the other skirmishes leading up to Batoche in the Great North-West rebellion. Big drama needs a big visual story to drive it home. You have the gun, garb and accoutrements, I also have gun, simple period garb and I think if we put our balls aside and go at each other with just patch and powder it would make for not only a fun video to watch but also serve as a 100% correct historical reference. (I can fake epic death scenes...) I think the Baker rifle is an underappreciated and almost forgotten cog of Canadian history in it's use in law/military enforcement, and the armed resistance to it. Canada's real history is darker than many currently know. Yes it is there to see in historical texts and drawings but, the stories and knowledge generally out there is stale, not very truthful and mega boring. It needs to show scenes of the reality back then, British soldier or loyalist against freedom loving Canadian patriots. I can play the parts of the dashingly handsome patriot, or William Lyon Mackenzie at the battle of Montgomery's Tavern, Louis Riel at Batoche and Louis Papineau at the Battle of Saint Denis, you can play the parts of soldier and loyalist of all skirmishes or Lord Durham and the hangman. I reside near Peterborough Ontario. You?
