Who has two thumbs and likes unique specialty bars? THIS GUY! So, when I first saw the Radian Sliding Grip Barbell V2 you KNOW I was intrigued. I chatted with their team for awhile and was sharing some of their posts, sales, and pre-orders.
I was happy to help a new company with a unique offering. But then they sent me their bar for testing purposes. This bar has been a real fun science experiment to play around with. Bench and Overhead Press variations sound like a sweet spot for a dude who needs some more chest and shoulders in his life.
Chest is my weak point. I’ve struggled for years to both build it aesthetically, and to keep my bench moving from a powerlifting perspective. So new toys that claim to help me there, are shot towards the top of the list. In this video I share all of the good details so you can decide if this is your next barbell purchase, or not!

Thank you so much for the detailed video review Joe! Here are some solutions for the problems. For the oil problem, just attach a fat grip or something similar in the bar's centre. A dry lube such as a Teflon spray can also be used, but its not as smooth as the oil (gun oil) As for the handles, at the liftoff, place them at an equal distance from the centre.

Definitely feeling the intro and production on this one! I’m lucky to get three sessions in per week these days. I’d be in for one if I can get back to 4-5x week.

Just bought mine yesterday. Have been looking at Mag Grip bars, the 6 you mentioned near the bottom of your excellent and long article about them, for a long time. I have Prime paddles I use in many different ways so I kept putting off pulling the trigger. The second I saw this I bought it the next day. I have 8 inch PVC “handles” on a crappy old olympic bar. Won’t use that anymore. And will purchase Mag Grips at some point I’m sure.

Right on! Let me know what you think about the bar when you get it. And any time you got questions on the MAGs, fire away. Still my most used cable attachments.

This is the only bar that requires a bib 😂 otherwise it looks very unique and I can see it being useful for some. Editing and camera work is great as always!

Yeah it certainly is unique, which is what caught my eye originally. I'd love to see some improvements in just a few small areas, but otherwise cool bar. Thanks dude.

I still hear the family fued “X” when I see this. It’s the reverse of the push-up slider thing and person wanted a crazy pump they could use a band to keep the resistance on them all the time. Oh, and just use dumbbells. No change in my thinking. I would probably invest in the easy spotters (?) for dumbbells before this.
@GrayMatterLifting
@GrayMatterLifting 3 ай бұрын
That's totally fair. Especially at the weight on the bar. I weigh more than the bar was loaded with. The DB spotters are a solid choice.

What did you feel about long term durability? I wanted to get a squeezebar because it gives a freakish pump. This is an affordable option and if its good in durability, im good to go. I dont care about the storage part.

I've had it since January, so far so good. No slop in the sleeves or anything, bar is overall well manufactured from what I can tell. It FEELS like a barbell. So I would assume, especially with the lighter loads, it'll last a long time .

Maybe it just needs a rubber Fat Gripz glued at the centerline. It should improve the vertical storage handling and protect the shirt from oil.

There are a few people who have done something like this. I'm sure it would technically "work", but you'd lose some of the range of motion in the center, and it would ruin the aesthetic of such a nice bar. Definitely a possible answer though.

Ive been using the bar for about some months, i never even use oil on it but whenever i do, fat grips in the centre fix the oil problem.
@GrayMatterLifting
@GrayMatterLifting 3 ай бұрын
@@HHH-yz7nh I honestly don't understand how you never oil it. It was such a smoother experience when oiled vs not. And adding my fat grip to the bar just made my fat grip oily.
@HHH-yz7nh
@HHH-yz7nh 3 ай бұрын
@GrayMatterLifting haha! Easy. Just dont oil the centre shaft part where you put the fat grip. I dont need the oil on this at all as i usually put a maximum of a 25lb plate each side. I think many people would be comfortable with that.

I think you may have got the muscle growth part wrong. Its not necessary that heavier weights produce larger muscles. High reps, upto what ive learnt, cause growth
@GrayMatterLifting
@GrayMatterLifting 2 ай бұрын
Keep in mind that heavy weights doesn't necessarily mean low reps. You can use heavy weights for high reps. And from the science we have, everything CAN work for stimulating growth. But let's do a simple thought process here... If you were to Bench Press 225lbs for 20 reps....vs bench press 100lbs for 15 reps... Which one are we thinking likely causes more muscle growth? I'm putting my money on the set of 225... More weight, for more reps, is likely a positive thing. When we look at this bar vs a traditional bar, we are forgoing weight and reps for increased range of motion and a better contraction. So we have to figure out, is that a net benefit or net negative to the equation of growth?

I'd love to see more 6' bars options from manufacturers. Also, the bar tats from the oil is a 👎. The ability to lock the grips might be something to look into as well. Fun concept
@GrayMatterLifting

Yeah the oil is a need to address thing. Agreed on the handles. Could lock into a starting position and release when ready. Would work for moving the bar too.
