The critics of this song want us to forget the history of the "Southern man". But we can't forget. Their hatred runs deeps in their heritage. Even now they refuse to put down the flags of traitors to the United States, that stood for racist oppression. We can't forget until they learn to feel shame. But they won't, and likely never will. Jam on, Neil.

There were people from every nations that have fought during the Civil War (I don't mean immigrant), including French. Some fought for the South, some for the North. However the majority fought for the North. At that time, Canada belonged to the British Empire, so there's no doubt that Canadian were soldiers during the American Civil War. And his mother had French and American ancestor. Anyway, recently Neil Young has become an american citizen.

@@jasonmeyer7749 “southern folks are pretty dam smart”. Lol ok so that’s why southerners rely the heaviest on federal income and northern states have to pay more federal taxes to make up for it. For simple terms as I feel you a southern man may need that, northern states are essentially keeping southern states afloat by paying more federal taxes so you guys can spend it. Southerners have some of the poorest states in the usa. And have lower IQs. I can understand why southerners find his voice “annoying, whiny, and nasally” because there poorly educated, underachieving brains wouldn’t know how to comprehend art.
@Deadener
@Deadener 2 жыл бұрын
@@seb5572 I think you lost him at "taxes". Even now in the pandemic, the northern states are taking patients airlifted from their hospitals, because they can't handle them. And they think they're "resisting" the covid restrictions. In reality, they're just yet again, making the northern states pick up the slack. They literally can't handle anything on their own.

The band was from Jacksonville Florida, not Alabama. The only thing other than a song written by them talking about Alabama was that they recorded an album at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals Alabama. They had nothing else to do with Alabama other then that. Plus, Ed King was the one who wrote the song, not the band itself. That’s coming from a man who was born and raised in California, not even close to the south. So maybe u should be referencing Ed Kings kids being at that church and not Ronnie’s.

While agree with u on that, it’s different to attack a whole group of people. It’s not like most white southern people owned slaves. Majority of white southerners worked along with slaves. Also, the south wasn’t the only people to own slaves, they were used mostly overseas and also all over America. The north was extorting the south for its agriculture. The north needed the south for its natural resources like cotton and food to cloth and feed the norths growing population, industrial factories and growing cities. The south couldn’t produce it fast or cheap enough for the north so sadly slaves were brought in. With that said, it was black Arab Muslims who captured and started the African slave trade. Neil Young decided to put it all on the south and that’s why the offense was taken. The term southern charm or southern hospitality is a real thing and the south was just trying to keep good relations with the north and the south wound up taking all the blame.
