The Ampeg sounded on the verge of exploding at points (in a very good way), it has my vote.

I went into this thinking I'd be going for the Sound City as my choice is generally for things in the Hiwatt lineage, but the Ampeg is what took it for me. It took all the pedals well, where the Sound City left some sounding not so good. The EQ and switching options on the V4s always allows you to dial them into whatever cab or venue also.

I completely agree with you, the ampeg is by far the best sounding amp in my opinion. I love the tonal range as well as all the unique "fuzziness" you can find adjusting the eq. But the Fender was a surprise to me, it definitely has some serious balls.

Unfortunately at that point SC dropped what makes Hiwatt great, not really balanced and punchy since they changed/simplified the FI section.

For me it depends on what you put in front. When I liked the Simms-Watts, I really liked it (esp with the Conan). But with a couple pedals it was too fizzy for me. The one I think worked with everything was the Fender.

Listening with only my cell phone speaker, it's a tie between the Ampeg and the Fender (i think i may actually lean more towards the Ampeg)with Sound City coming in second.

My vote goes to the Ampeg. Simms-Watts a close second. If there is something that this series demonstrates, it's that what sounds good is very subjective and can vary wildly.

for me it was bloody close between the simms and the ampeg, On the solo play through i think i favoured the simms but in the context of a mix the ampeg was the winner. imho, Another great vid man. Looking forward to the next!

For me its a split decision i liked the fender and sound city equally, sound city was a little darker. I think those 2 in a dual setup would be great fender with the dagger and the sound city with a muff or fuzz face.

Also please for the love of God eq your guitar tracks, they really need a lpf and a reduction around 2-2.5k hertz

Why would I do that ? That would defeat the whole purpose of this shootout .

@@FuzzedDrones becouse you are trying to show how guitar tracks would fit in a mix along with drums and bass and lead parts, frequencies above 6k are just hiss and noise and gets filtered out in every occasion possible And by keeping the bump around (and sometimes above in bright amps/speakers) 2-2.5k you are actually making any other frequency range of the guitars quiter becouse your volume level would read *that* frequency range as the peak volume and not the rest, especially mids, so most of the guitar tone we hear in the mixes are 2k-2.5k and not much else. If you are going to compare amps by just running DI through them and turn knobs around to show people how they sound? Yeah fine you don't need to eq, but if you gonna demonstrate them by putting them in a mix please at least do basic eqing becouse (I believe there would be people who would agree with this) they don't sound listenable at all and it just sounds like all treble no bass no mids in a mix, I get your "it would defeat the purpose" argument but you can just find a happy medium between the amps for eq and run all of them through that instead, it is not rocket science.

This makes no sense, he is trying to show what the amp sounds like raw. EQing it just adds a variable.

@@VIRAEMIAPHXAZ you miss my point, it doesn't fit in a mix well without some light eq and you can't hear much below the treble/high mids range, it is okay to demonstrate the guitar track through different amps on their own without eq
