The Book of Boba Fett is an American space Western television series created by Jon Favreau for the streaming service Disney+. It is part of the Star Wars franchise and a spin-off from the series The Mandalorian, taking place in the same timeframe as that series and its other interconnected spin-offs after the events of Return of the Jedi (1983). The Book of Boba Fett follows bounty hunter Boba Fett from The Mandalorian and other Star Wars media as he establishes himself as the new crime lord of Jabba the Hutt's former territory.

The idea of Boba Fett (fun fact: OG Boba Fett was played by man who was Desmond Llewellyn's Q assistant named Smithers of the James Bond Movies) was that he was a non-force enemy who could rival and go toe-to-toe with the OG Cast. He tracked down Han's group and managed to restrain Luke in his wire restraint, a big deal at that time. Seeing non-jedi/sith making it in the world showed the force users weren't the only ones effecting events in the universe. Today it doesn't seem like much but back then it was a big deal. Now we have powerful non-force characters like Cad Bane who, despite his age, is a quicker draw than Boba Fett. FYI Cad Bane may still be alive due to his health retrieval droid.

I respect the boba fett show. Reason is him being a independent, respectable, fearing, character. I get why you hate it. Boba Fett is similar like godfather 2. What this show needs is a business and interactions of characters not just boba fett but with every character. I've watch mob shows and movies some of them show individual views some of them focusing on characters less or more. What I would like more is Mando and Boba having more scenes together. To me him and boba are forming brotherhood of theirs. They respect and help each other. If mando becomes leader of mandalore Boba show becomes more like peaky blinders.

The appeal of Boba Fett was that he looked really cool, had a cool voice, and a cool job. That's why he was so popular despite there being almost nothing known about him. Also, there was more about him written in the expanded universe of Star Wars books before Disney started declaring large swaths of those stories as non-canon.

Although, to be honest, I think Boba Fett was only interesting BECAUSE of the mystery behind him. It happens a lot, a character is introduced without much actual depth, but just enough that people can like them and want to see more of them because they believe there's more to the story than they're being told. But ultimately, any mystery is boring once you know how it all happened, and a mysterious character is no longer mysterious once their past is revealed (redundant statements are redundant). The point being: I think a lot of people who liked Boba Fett liked him specifically because he was so vague and mysterious. We saw so little of him, we didn't even see his face or even his skin-colour, and his voice was always kinda muffled by the helmet, it was hard to really get a feel on who he was or what he was even doing. He was just a gun for hire, he had cool armour and took no shit from anyone. The only reason he did what Vader said was because he wanted to get paid, simple as. So the very concept of expanding on his character and developing his backstory is kind of a misguided move since, as said, the mystery about who he is is what attracted a lot of people in the first place. Sure, you can make them interesting once it's revealed, but they still won't be the same mysterious badass we saw them as before.

The problem isn't that it's "a show about the Mandalorian". It's that the two episodes show that not only is Din a better and more compelling character, but the story is also more interesting. But also, it didn't have to happen. They could have used the runtime they wasted on Mando to put in more scenes that were nessessary to show more of Boba and the villains and the crime etc.

I would've been happy seeing solo Mando for one episode, have him see Grogu, choose to move on, join Boba Fett for the finale, and then go his own way. Seeing Mando and Grogu reunite after the emotional finale of Season 2 felt more like a slap to the face than a relief.

It is just speculation, but I wouldn't be suprised if it turns out to be true, but it seems like they started filming Mando S3 and because of some chuckle fuckery, had to stop and start with BoBF and repurposed what's finished for the show. Maybe I'm remembering it wrong, but I thought when BoBF was announced, it was also announced that Mando S3 was supposed to air directly after it was finished.

Odd, the sandpeople scenes I personally found to be the most compelling and emotional. Just because you can’t see their faces, doesn’t mean you couldn’t tell how they felt. They just expressed it through their actions and body language. It really helped to drive home Boba’s change of heart, like he finally had a real family and a place to call home, something he lacked since childhood.

I'm kind of with you there, I was more engaged during those. It did however open a lot of unanswered about the raiders due to how close he gets with their society. Also so interesting to see creatures that scared me as a kid be depicted in this manner.

This could have been a dynamite show if Boba had been inspired more from the books and the unused Clone Wars storylines. Make his motivation be having a legacy, like he wants to honor his father and he sees the ways his father impacted the galaxy and wants to make his own mark beyond being a bounty hunter. Maybe have a conversation between him and Fennec where they talk about being so close to death and how it's affecting their outlooks and what they now want to do with their lives. Have Cad Bane play a much bigger role, he was inspired by Lee Van Cleef and Boba was inspired by Clint Eastwood. Play into that! Maybe have a new character that Boba's kind of mentoring and then have him be divided about joining either Boba or Bane and have a three way shootout at the end like The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. And for crying out loud ditch the crap about the lazy freeloading kids and their stupid rainbow scooters.

I always thought the reason why Boba wanted to be a leader was because (for lack of a better term) he was tired of being screwed over by his “bosses” and seeing others suffer for it so he wanted to change the society by being a better leader and implementing the sand people traditions into the society’s traditions
@williamcronshaw5262

That's what the show says, problem is what the show says doesn't line up with what it actually presents. Here's what I mean: 1.) Boba screwed himself in Return of the Jedi, not Jabba. He's the one that chose to close the distance against someone with a Lightsaber. So how exactly did Jabba screw someone? 2.) He has a problem with seeing others suffer even though he shacked up with the Tuscans who enslave and torture whoever they find? They did it to him in this very show.

A few Star Wars channels basically narrowed down the thing with the Sand People being with Boba finding his tribe. He was born into a bounty hunter life he never chose to be a part of, trained by his father's rival to be the best hunter just so he could fight him and feed his ego, spent years working with crime bosses who would easily dispose of him as easily as they do their targets, and the only family he ever had besides his father were men who looked and sounded like him. This show has Boba becoming self actualized for the first time in his life. Doing what HE wants, knowing that it's better to be a mob boss with loyal minions than to be the disgruntled minion of self serving mob boss. And because of decades of people building up in their head who Boba Fett was under the mask, him becoming a benevolent gang leader is not how anyone imagined him.

The appeal of Boba Fett was he was a silent, mysterious badass. That's the vibe he gave off. And with the prequels and Clone Wars giving us a bit more about him, the interest in him grew. So when this show comes out and Boba is portrayed as a kinda incompetent Crime Boss who doesn't do most of the fighting, wants to be nice to everyone, and doesn't even manage to get revenge on the correct people.... It kinda leaves a bad taste. At least, for me. And probably others

"Honestly the majority of that episode with Luke and Ahsoka did not need to happen." Not to mention the whole "repeating the Jedi's most fatal flaw" bit! You would think, after their nonsensical insistence on detachment and denial of interpersonal relations led directly to the downfall of not only the old Jedi Order but the Galactic Republic itself, and was the impetus for the corruption and fall of Luke's own father, that _he would know better than to make that same mistake again._ But no, he went back to that old poisoned well, and his attempt at a new Jedi Order ended up falling to ruin faster than the last one did! Coincidence? Hard to say.

It’s nice to explore more of this character’s psychology Book of Boba Fett’ continues like the other spinoff to drip with atmosphere and allow the viewer to immerse themselves in this deeper universe Plenty of inside references and throwbacks to previous Star Wars lore for sure The finale is actually a lot of fun with great action thrills to spare and many players coming together This spinoff feels very episodic and full of pulp stories that still work being old school Disney + and Lucasfilm Ltd. have done it again with terrific results Here’s hoping more side adventures in the future happens to appeal to old fans and newcomers who need a break from the mega blockbusters the franchise is known for 66% on Rotten Tomatoes

Here's why Boba Fett was cool to everybody They added spurs when he walked, giving him a cowboy feel, Vader tells him in particular not to disintegrate people (Meaning he usually does), mystery, Slave 1 being a neat design, him knowing exactly how the Falcon was hiding, and the fact that both Vader and Jabba went to this guy, also from my understanding, they even aired a cartoon starring Fett to advertise him as a new character in Empire. When you put all that together, that means this guy must be interesting, especially because he never talks about himself, so then people make comics about him and add more things to make him more cool and it loops in on itself, now Fett has a lightsaber and fought of Vader with it, and he trains people to hunt Jedi

Episodes 1+2 = Book of Boba Fett, these are the only episodes where he was allowed to shine, because he was the only one who could talk and no Fennec yet to steal the show, actually allowed to be a bad ass, beat up the Bikers and strangle that monster. (problem is, he doesn't wear his Armor which makes it not FEEL like that is counting to the Boba Fett = cool factor) Episodes 3+4 = Book of Fennec Shand Episodes 5+6 = Book of Din Djarin Episode 7 = Avengers finale where they all have a big battle against a generic foe. Boba didn't even get to shoot his blaster until the final Episode. I wanted a bad ass bounty hunter show that makes Din Djarin look like the nice softy that he actually is. Instead Mando comes in and the first thing he does is to slice his Bounty in half with the Dark Saber and Boba just gets repeatedly humiliated.

Fun Fact: Cad Bane is voiced by Corey Burton, the same voice actor that voiced Spike Witwicky from the original G1 Transformers cartoon from the 1980s. (The cartoon that was made to tie-in with the toys so it can engage kids and their families to purchase the toys at the time.) And since Cad Bane is voiced by someone who voiced a character from a cartoon to tie-in with one of the popular toy lines in the 1980s, I kinda like this. As a 1980s toy collector, it kinda makes it look like Cad Bane was in the original version of Star Wars before all of the CGI changes were made in 97.

I agree for the most part; the biggest problem isn't that they suddenly focus on Mando (though that certainly IS a problem). The biggest problem really is that we have no idea where Boba fits in to Mos Espa, and why he suddenly becomes a semi-pacifist. A lot of the mystique of him came from high violence with a calm facade - a very Western trope. But differentiating Boba and Mando, who both heavily lean into the quiet, strong, morally blue Western hero tropes, was probably a huge initial hurdle. So they give him honestly an interesting backstory of being reborn amongst the Tusken Raiders, and some of the trippier scenes of him taming the giant beast, making his own sacred stick, and beating the piss out of the local thieves at a tavern were honestly really frickin enjoyable. But given, as you pointed out, the limited facial expressions of the Tuskens and Boba (still great casting) mean that the relatively standard cinematography and score start to really bog the first half down. That, and constantly showing his backstory that happened five seconds ago via flashback, instead of just linearly telling Boba's story makes no gosh dang sense. But that's only the first half of the show. The second half of the show simultaneously shows exactly what went wrong, and the two avenues the writers tried to unsuccessfully bridge. Suddenly, the narrative spirals out between Fennec, Boba, the Wookiee, the worst 90's biker gang you've ever seen, Mando, Grogu, Cad Bane, and the spice-running aliens selling contraband in Mos Espa. All of this, mind you, is set up and paid off all within about 3 episodes. Each of these individual stories is pretty cool, but they're so tightly and inexpertly knotted together that the failings of any 1 sub-story drags the whole show down. In my opinion, given how starkly different the first and second halves of the show are, they should have chosen one half to give their entire focus on, and make the second half later. Because the first half actually lives up to the title, Book of Boba Fett; the second half is so wide and shallow in its scope that it really would have made more sense to call it Tales of Tattooine, and have the show be about all these various vignettes of different characters (the sheriff, Boba, Fennec, Mando, the Wookiee, etc) that come together at the end for a large battle against the spice smugglers. But the scale of the first three episodes versus the scale of the last 2 are just so jarringly different with little to no connective tissue that it makes the season feel completely disjointed.

One idea to make Boba fett more interesting would be giving him an identity crisis. Like since he's the son of Jango I feel like he would feel the need to live up to Jango's legacy and since he's a clone of Jango there would probably be an inner conflict of identity like this would be interesting dilemma. Then to make the show rly good is keep the sand people backstory but expand it even more cuz it's best part of the show for me and gave more flash backs when he was kid on Kamino

Doug being seemingly confused by Boba's popularity really shows how little he knows about the expanded universe. That's Boba's bread and butter. I remember there were some Boba Fett anthology comics in my library growing up, and they really sold me on the character. In one story, an imperial officer hired Boba to raid a ship and recollect an old artifact for him. Only it turns out the artifact was a device with a recording of his late wife saying how much she loved him. The officer then revealed that he didn't actually have the money to pay Boba, he just wanted to see her one last time, and the recording was the only thing he had left of her. Boba doesn't hesitate to shoot him through the eye and walk out. The last panel is the officer lying dead with his wife's message playing over and over. In another story, Boba was contacted by this alien creature. Apparently the Empire built a base on his planet and was committing genocide on his people. Even now that the Empire was broken, this military base was still operational and still capturing people to experiment on them. Boba asks why he didn't go for any other solution besides contacting one of the biggest name bounty hunters. He responded that he wanted vengeance to be a bit more personal. He wanted Boba to clean out this base solo and bring back the head of the leader in a bag. Boba asked him how much money he had to offer. The alien gave Boba a miniscule offer. Boba pulled out a rifle and asked, "Do you know who you mock?" The alien then goes into a monologue about how Boba used to have a reputation as the most dangerous killer in the galaxy *until* the Jedi fed him to the sarlaac. These days, people question his credibility and have a hard time believing he even got out of the pit. "You won't do this for the money." The creature says. "You do this to remind the galaxy that you are Boba Fett." And Boba actually does it. There are some other moments I remember, like him killing a monster by shooting a barrel of oil, thus destroying it's entire top half in an explosion, or going toe to toe with Darth Vader. But it wasn't even just the comics. During the events of RoTJ, the book gives us some more details about what happened before Luke got there. Jabba offered Boba a chance to have a night alone with Leia. Boba agrees, and when he takes her back to a bedroom, he locks the door and tells her he's not gonna do anything. He just thought she deserved to get a night's rest without Jabba harassing's her. She takes the bed and he sleeps sitting on a stool in the corner. He tells more about his investment in the conflict and how he doesn't really care about either Jabba or Han or the Empire. He's just making a living. I can't speak for every Star Wars fan, but that's the Boba Fett I know and love. That's the guy I wanted translated to live action. And they blew it.

I personally liked that the Mando episodes were there. It is called “The book of Boba Fett”, not just Boba Fett. So it takes the pacing of a book. So an episode about a side character and a lot of flashbacks are pretty fitting in my opinion. Since that is usually what happens in a book: chapters about side characters and flashbacks. I do wish they took it a bit further by perhaps giving an episode to Fennec or Cad Bane to establish them more before the climax. But hey, you get what you get I guess

Listening to the review for Book of Boba, I found myself thinking back to the Rebels review and how it sounds like it suffered from the exact same problem. That problem being: the main cast isn’t as engaging to follow as much as the returning characters. It’s weird since Boba has so much fandom behind him, but he feels like he isn’t doing much to get people invested into his new endeavors. Meanwhile with so many characters seen returning (and ironically a few also from Clone Wars), it seems weird to think of Boba Fett being made a side character in his own series for a few episodes. Hopefully there might be a second crack at making this work, but the fanfare does seem like it leaves alot to be desired if the main talking points of Boba Fett’s series seemed to deter from the Bounty Hunter. Or hell, from what comments I read, maybe they should have called this “Mandalorian: Book of Boba” as if to serve as a one season spin off of sorts if you are bringing they Mandalorian back for a few episodes. I don’t know…

I feel like the series probably could’ve worked better as a full movie. Like, you could probably re-edit the series into a two+ hour film by having it open up on Boba killing Fortuna, establish the conflict in Mos Espa with the Hutts, then cut to him flashing back to his backstory with the Tuskens in its entirety, only to be then brought back into the present conflict by Krrsantan‘s assassination attempt and have the rest of the series unfold from there with some trimming here and there. And maybe repurose all the Grogu/Luke scenes for the “Mandolorian”. I feel like that would’ve made this series easier to digest for most people.

I really liked this show. It was the completion of an arc that started in Clone Wars with young Boba wanting to get revenge and follow in his father's footsteps. He became the badass bounty hunter, but despite his successes he always was just doing the bidding of more powerful beings. One of those jobs ended up with him almost dying in the sarlacc pit. Being with the sand people showed Boba another kind of power and allowed him to think about what he really wanted. To be the one calling the shots, the one in charge, but to do it his way. Cad Bane never changed. He was the same bounty hunter he was in clone wars and he died the only death such men could ever expect. Boba grew and changed and found a way to get out of that life that wasnt the usual clichéd "old soldier living alone" that we see done over and over. I got the impression that people wanted to see Boba hunting marks and making his triumphant return as the baddest bounty hunter in the galaxy. But I'm glad we got something different. That badass bounty hunter life would have ended the same for him as it did for Cad Bane - a lonely end at the hands of someone better and faster.

God, I just had a thought. Boba Fett's original concept in the movies was to be the 'boss' of the Stormtroopers, his armour was going to be entirely white and black with a few red details, and he was going to be their commander, a concept they ended up not using but later recycled for Captain Phasma in the sequel trilogy. Since then the 'white Boba Fett' look has become kind of an icon among the behind-the-scenes nerds since it's a cool look, and it was cleverly worked back in using the Clone Troopers and Jango Fett, kinda tying it all together in an interesting way. The thing is, rewatching this Disneycember, I just got a thought: what if Boba Fett, after escaping the Sarlacc Pit and realising the Empire had fallen, maybe started taking on leftover Stormtroopers and maybe even remaining Clone Troopers as a kind of found family? Being a clone himself who lost his 'father' at a young age, he knows how hard it can be to live without any real guidance, and maybe wants to lead these people who remind him so much of himself in order to help them grow into something better. It could even end with Boba making the full white armour suit as mentioned, finally canonizing it and giving Boba a reason for everything he does, it's for his PEOPLE.

Cad Bane really should have been the main villain from the very start. It should have been simple to do, Boba Fett kills Bib Fortuna in a play for Jabba's Palace, but that results in a bounty being put out on the galaxy's most notorious bounty hunter, with Cad Bane as the ultimate threat. The show was already giving us flashbacks to the aftermath of Return of the Jedi, so they could have given us a few more flashback to the Clone Wars era to explain the history of Cad Bane/Boba Fett for the uninitiated. Also, one episode of this show contained one of my favorite callbacks of all time where Boba Fett stumbles into the set of a perfectly recreated deleted scene from A New Home, complete with cameos of actors who looked almost exactly like the original actors from the original movie.

2:34 - 3:02 I will say it would be nice if we see some of the ferocity and emotion Temurra Morrison can bring in his performance, like when he played Jake the Muss from Once Were Warriors or What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted. From what we've seen of Boba Fett's history and life, we've never really gone in depth about how he feels or what he thinks about. It could be interesting to see what anger, frustration, and confusion he's been repressing and has shielded off as both a clone of Jango and a Mandalorian bounty hunter. Did Boba ever resent Jango and the fact he never had his own identity? Did he ever have conflictions as a bounty hunter that led to his conclusion of becoming an honorable leader? What about the trauma Boba went through having survived the Sarlac Pitt? The desperation from being forced to live among the Tusken Raiders as a captive like Richard Harris's A Man Called Horse? Open the possibilities with character development. Boba was created to be something akin to Jack Sparrow or Daryl Dixon; he wasn't meant to be the focus of the story, but like those other two, he took off and became his own thing. So now, you have a spin-off show and a reason to go more in depth. *Go in depth!* You don't need Mando and Luke Skywalker to be his training wheels.

The REAL reason Boba Fett became a Star Wars icon is actually silly, it was because of a toy, no really, that’s it, because the first boba fett action came with a very dangerous projectile it was recalled and became the most sought after Star Wars action figure, it reached ludicrous prices as a collector’s item and that made the character itself popular

The two mando-centric episodes of Boba Fett were put in at the last minute by John Favreau in an attempt to save the series combined with a lot of re-shoots for the last episode. Those two episodes were supposed to be Mando Season 3 EP 1 and EP 2. They were put in because KK meddled far too much with the production of Boba Fett, and John Walked away for a while. He returned and saw what KK created, so, he jumped in, yanked the rest of the season, put in the first two episodes, and reshot a LOT of the final episode. Most of this was info learned from Overlord DVD.

If that were the case, Favreau legally wouldn't be allowed to have the writing credit he has for every episode. He didn't walk away. Just the usual KK haters blaming her whenever something goes 'wrong'. She was equally involved here as the Sequels, Andor or Mando S1 & S2.

Part of the reason why everybody was hyped up about Boba Fett to begin with was due to the fact that it was heavily-implied that Fett was Vaders' Go-To Guy when it comes to tracking down and bringing in targets: simply by way of the brief scene where Vader is talking to the Bounty Hunters and he approaches Boba in-particular and says to him "But I want them alive: no disintegrations." "As you wish." which indicated that Vader and Boba have a strong working history together. And based on Vaders' track record up to this point where he's either punishing Glory Hounds or choking out Arrogant Governors, there are only a few individuals within the Imperial Command structure that he had any measure of respect for that wasn't underneath his direct command. This made Boba Fett stand out all the more because of how Boba worried about turning in the bounty on Han Solo when he was originally tasked with bringing him in for Jabba, at which Vader offhandedly says that Boba would be fairly compensated should Han die.

I thought this show was fun, but I totally agree with all your points, particularly in focusing on one villain. Give time to build him/her up, maybe give them an arc that has parallel or opposing themes to Boba Fett's, so that it _means_ something when they clash! Still, this show has a TON cool stuff, even if it doesn't tie together too well. Glad I watched it!

While i agree that the first half of the story had it's problems, i think the biggest issue with the episodes that were Mandalorian 2.5 is not what they did with them but rather what they didn't do. The final confrontation between Boba and Cad Bane it's based around an arc of Clone Wars that was supposed to happen before it was cancelled and if someone doesn't know about that their fight won't have any meaning. Instead of making the stuff with Luke and Grogu they should have used those episodes to somewhat recanonize that story arc.

Agreed! Unlike the conversation with Ahsoka and Luke, where you can tell there is history between her and the Skywalkers and if you want that additional context you can go watch it, there is no available context for the Boba & Bane story. I really wish they had just given us that old Clone Wars arc instead, or at the very least put it into this show and saved all of the Mando stuff for Mando season 3.

I think the biggest Mandalorian character this series desecrated was Armorer. She put up all this fight about making Grogu’s gift and then immediately relents when Mando says two little lines. Now I suppose this is meant to foreshadow an identical conversation that Mando has with Ahsoka with a worse outcome in the following episode but still. Then Armorer strips Mando of his title but not of his weapons.
