My late uncle Knud Erik was quite a hound with a smoothbore, but his local range insisted on using the skeet thrower machine, so I -don't- never knew how he would get along with hand thrown skeets.
@TheMagnumChannel

Yeah, a lot of ranges are like that. What kind of shotgun did he use?

Oh, he had a few 12 gauge side-by-side and over-and-under. Danish law consider shotguns with a capacity of more than two rounds to be potentially of military grade, thus illegal. This dates back to a civil war in the 14th century, where bows, spears, and axes were obsolete, but halbarts and broadswords were cutting edge technology. Revolting peasants took up arms, got hold of some of the royal armory (halbarts and crossbows) and caused all kinds of trouble. After the revolt was subdued, peasants were allowed to arm themselves only with the weapons they needed to hunt and fend of thieves and burglars. Another civil war witnessed the advent of gunpowder. Again, revolting peasants took up arms, and again, they got hold of royal military equipment, and again they wreaked havoc. And again, they were subdued, and the laws tightened further. Permits were now required (in the darn 15th century!), and we stuck with this ever after. You may possess what is needed for hunting. Two rounds should do, thus the over-and-under and the side-by-side. A repeating rifle with five rounds should do just fine when hunting deer, so no auto or semi auto, and no .50 BMG. The largest animals in Denmark are our cows, and you don't hunt cows. Oh, you need to pass a course to pick up a hunting license, but most people who aren't complete idiots, pass the test. You may possess practice weapons, and .22 is well suited for that, since it'll hit the target, but not punch through an armored car. If you have been a member of a gun range for more than two years, you may apply for a permit, and if granted (the chairman of the local range and the local police must deem you fit and worthy), you are on your merry way, but insurance companies are very strict when it comes to the gun safes, so there's a bit of a hazzle. Join the Home Guard, and you are issued an assault rifle if you have served in the Armed Forces and have a clean record. You are also issued 200 rounds of ammo, uniforms, field gear including helmet and body armor, boots, and all the stuff an infantryman is issued by the Army. The Home Guard also fields the merry ol' MG3 (the fancy new M60 is not hardcore enough for the Home Guard), M203 grenade launchers, and anti-tank weapons. We are by and large unarmed, and only the top of the foodchain criminals have guns, but guns are too rare and costly to be wasted on dumbass civilians such as myself. This is also adressed by a peculiar part of our criminal act. If a burglar or thief as much as shows his teeth or clenches his fist, he is considered a robber. Burglars and thieves are treated somewhat lenient by the criminal courts, and robbers are locked away for years. So there is no point in putting up a fight or bring as much as a handful of pebbles when you are breaking in. We don't really need guns, and our cops are usually on the spot before you can bat an eye. I totally get why most Americans need guns, and I don't envy *why* you need the guns, so I am not screaming and yelling about gun regulation. I just envy how shiny and awesome guns are.

Haha, side by sides are very cool, I hope to get one sometime. Interesting history about the civil wars and all, I have a friend from Belgium that has said the same thing about the whole thief/robber situation...I didn’t realize America was such a violent place as far as crime goes compared to countries like Denmark. I guess you’re better off not needing them and not really having them, but I think I’d still prefer to have them...probably just because it’s all I’ve ever known. lol

Knud Erik sure was fond of his side-by-sides because they are so simple, but he liked the over-and-under better, because the center of recoil moved downwards from the first shot to the next shot, and the side-by-side had a right-to-left shift, and that was enough to throw off his aim by just a tiny bit. When it comes to violent crimes, things are quiet in Denmark, but we have quite a few burglaries, but still, most Danes will live for decades (if not an entire life) facing nothing worse that a picked pocket or a stolen bicycle. With guns all around, I think it would be downright stupid for a homeowner or a family man not to have at least one gun (preferably more than one) and learn how to hit dead center with the first shot. Oh, and they are fun to shot, don't forget that :-D

Oh, the standart notion of a bank robber here in Denmark is a desperate man with a nylon stocking over his head, frantically waving a sown off shotgun that turns out to be loaded with fake rounds because when he stole the damn thing, he forgot to steal some ammo. Also, if he is from Aarhus (the town we used to make jokes about), he tend to bring the sown off barrel, not the gun itself.

Nice job. I would try it but I don't believe my shoulder could do it. I could probably do 3 but if I threw hard enough to get a chance at 4 my arm would be out of socket.😂👍🇺🇸

Thanks Uncle Dan! With a little practice, three doesn’t require too much of a throw, you have an advantage with that 14” barrel! 😄
