I've got quite a bit of Boro stuff from 74. Papers. Season team specials, local press etc. Grandfather was ex keeper. Returned to his roots and retired in Saltburn.

What a lovely fella hodgy is ,I remember him well from my time at darlo very fondly and it is true that George did come to each member of staff and asked us how much the club owed us,mine was 3 months pay. I just wish that hodgy had stayed because my son signed for darlo on a pro contract just after he left and I know he would have excelled under hodgy.

Definitely needs a part 2 to go over his managerial career properly. Be good to hear more about George and the stories about some of the older pros which I think he brought in, Bobby Peta, Phil Stamp, Clyde Wijnhard, Craig Hignett, Alun Armstrong ect.

Oh I know he was North East. Never lost his accent. After Footy he stayed In the Wrexham area. Unfortunately at the end he had ill health the Footballers curse Dementia 😢😢😢

He did not say they played Liverpool in November. Darlington did draw Liverpool in the third round, which would have been played in the Jan. The first game against Rochdale was on the 2nd of Dec. Then there was a replay later in December. Hodgy was a couple of days out on recollection. Shame on you for questioning his integrity.

I remember him playing. I watched him. He wasn't very good at all. I was just adding some first hand context to this idea that he was somehow hard done to. Seemed to be making a load of excuses I.e. no physio, needed an arms round me, got an injury, could have been great. I'm very chill. He seems a nice fella, but the reality was he wasn't anywhere nesr good enough for us. No problem is disgrace in that. H3 should just say so.

Apparently, the staff at Liverpool were of the opinion that Sammy Lee was coming towards the end of his career and wanted him to be his replacement, but they always kept the players guessing about what their intentions were.

As an 11 year old kid and Sunderland daft I wrote to Lawrie mac and got a tour of roker. Met Davie Hodgson in the changing room and he was so nice to me, 40 odd years ago but never forget it.
