Despite not winning the UCL. This City team is the most advanced tactical football team of all time. Forget prime Barca 09 for a second. Those guys only had one approach, "keep the ball pass the ball" they had no plan B and they got exposed against Bayern's gegenpress and counter attacking teams. I'm not saying Pep's Barca was bad, I mean they had the most skillful and talented players of all time including the GOAT. Iniesta, Busquets and Xavi's style of play and control of the ball was absolutely a spectacle to watch, they were wizards with the ball.... and at the time they were almost unplayable but it only took about 2 seasons for them to get exposed. Therefore Guardiola left and evolved his philosophical believes at Bayern and now currently at City. As a manager he grew up and keep expanding his football knowledge. Currently this City team is the most advanced tactical team of all time. They can change formation 3 times in a match 433,3241,442 they have different approaches for each opponent and they depend on less ball possession... So tiki taka is not fundamental for his approach anymore. His current approach is more physical, organized, tactically advanced, extremely patient and well disciplined. His Barca team of course played a more flexible free flowing game and was extremely attractive on the eye and he was fortunate to have had such talented individuals but Pep has grown up as an manager and learned from his mistakes and this current City team is far more advanced tactically. Some people will probably disagree with this comment, of course no problem. Prime Barca will always be more memorable and sentimental, no doubt about it. But ill go as far and say this current Pep side will outsmart his Barca team tactically if they were to play. Why? Cause Pep is pep and he is far more experienced than he was back in 09 - 11. He would definitely outsmart his former self and this current City team knows almost just as much about football than their manager.
