The Chaos of Cannabis | Jahan Peston Jamas | TEDxIITBHU

Think big and then chase your dream passionately. Jahan
Peston, founder of BOHEMCO, a company that plans to use
Cannabis for various commercial uses speaks about how he
and his six friends decided to build this business. He
introduces the audience to the many facets of a single
commodity, cannabis in this case. His talk revolves around
how perspective defines the order. A chaos may be order for
some but may be a troublesome puzzle for others. To decide is
one's choice.
Originally of Australian descent, Jahan leads the strategy and
collaborations function at Bombay Hemp Company (BOHECO)
by identifying viable stakeholders in the hemp ecosystem that
share BOHECO’s vision and develop strategic partnerships and
collaborations to exponentially scale impact. He is also the focal
point of BOHECO’s communications. Before co-founding
BOHECO, Jahan helped set up start- up companies and social
enterprises such as one of Mumbai’s first walking tour
companies-having conducted tours for over 5000 people in 4
years. These have enabled him to bring intriguing insights on
successful scaling of early stage businesses. As such, Jahan
also plays an important role in developing growth strategies and
raising capital for BOHECO.

I remember Jack Herer giving this same presentation to a big crowd outside Senator Charles Rangel's office in Harlem back in 1990, just two months after I'd been arrested for six seeds. I'm here to say thank you for Jack and the world he tried to save.

That was an awesome speech. I dont know why i switched on my tv late at night to watch ET Now. I heard about your company on that channel. You guys rock... whatever you spoke resonates on a soul level. Hope you guys come out with an IPO soon. Microsoft is investing big money into the cannabis business and with 5 states in the US legalizing it, we will see this world over.

Ha yes this gentleman may be a dweeb but he is also an emerging innovator on quite a profound journey of discovery. Doubtless he is most used to pitching the work of his company to corporate audiences; to really educate wider society about the true wonders of cannabis hemp would take a long time and a lot of good weed. I think he gets a few good points across well. Ted talks tend to be based on progressive goals more than systematic commercialism. So the aim of a talk like this should be to inspire new thought perspectives and improve our intelligence. He does this well here.

The plant itself is quite an amazing resource for all kinds of reasons covered here from vehicle bodies to clothes and paper. It's also good for building insulation when added to mortars and plasters and another reason to use lime mortar and hemp is because lime mortar absorbs carbon dioxide. Farmers should go back to growing it again like they once did on an industrial scale in the 30's and 40's for all kinds of amazing products like rope, cloth and foods it's so fibrous and because it doesn't need much water and you also don't need to use any herbicides and pesticides.

He seems to have same facts wrong. Sativa can be used to get you high, in fact, the high from Sativa strains can be often more "trippy" because of high THC value and low CBD value. At least the BBC document of THC and CBD value coherence seem to suggest the more THC and the less CBD the more "psychically unstable" the test subject became. The seed are a great source of omega and the fibre is good for clothes etc. that part is right.

Zinnshady24 ruderalis does have a lower thc concentration, but they still have potential. what's special about them is that they are autoflowering. every autoflowering sativa/ indica cannabis plant is a ruderalis hybrid.

not really true though. All the plants can get you high, it's all about the amount of THC in the strain. Indica and sativa are both used for recreational purposes, and usually it is a cross of the two. Ruderalis is not widely used, because the strains don't contain much THC, and the plants are small. Medicinally indica and sativa are also both used. It's about getting the right strain for your disorder/illness, not the right plant.

Anyone here in the comments realize, that this is not , I repeat, NOT about the stuff you smoke, right? These aer two different plants with different properties, even if they are of the same family. This is not about making smoking Marihuana legal, that's a different talk for a different day, this is about getting all the controversy of that topic OFF the plant that bears the prejudices but should be absolutely uncontroversial and widely used. And no, I am not pro or against legalizing drugs here, I just wish, you guys would use your powers of discrimination and hold each conversation where it belongs. Cheers.

Hemp fabric is wonderful, I like it better than cotton. Cotton takes huge amount of water to grow and pesticides ! None on this with growing hemp!

Cannabis is a medical necessity for all those of us who have been consuming metabolically poisonous Vegetable oils in our diets and getting one or more of many more modern diseases. The solution is to go vegan and take cannabis supplementation until you are better while getting all vegetable oils out of your diet. You can use some polysaturated animal food-based oil, that in all animal products if you are not quite so worried about living as long as reasonably possible while remaining perfectly healthy.

he was wrong about sativa and indica. sativa has all the thc which gets you that high feeling. and indica has lots of cbd and some thc which gets you stoned. sativa also has some cbd in it.

Lol. :D Why would'nt it? :D Sativa is meant more for daytime,has uplifting effect,more energy and stuff. But Indica is better preffered at night time or when just wanna chill,cause it gives you more body relaxation than cerebral effect. This was good talk about hemp,but when it comes to weed i dont see it how it will be possible to talk in 18 mins,will take like hours 4 or 5. :D So much info,such a plant of healing. Healer of the world,i can say with 100% certainty.

wow, this is a TED talk? He 's got the THC wrong, he says the tall plant (Sativa) has no THC and that the bushy middle one (Indica) is the one that gets you high. Sativa is the one with the strongest TCH, it's the one that will cause the most head high. I stopped watching after the got those facts wrong.

+Free the Weed I hope you mean the natural strains of sativa or were you referring to modified versions. He is actually implying about its industrial uses... so relax. And you can use all of the three varieties, but sativa being larger plant will be more productive.

Sadly this fellow has the right idea but he doesn't know which strains are which. Cannabis dative is medicinal with an energetic high. Cannabis indicate is also medicinal with a heavier more soporific effect. Cannabis RUDERALIS is the industrial hemp plant. The other two are not. It's this sort of inaccuracy that makes the critics feel empowered as the most vocal proponents don't seem to know what they are saying.

Gthose should read SATIVA and INDICA as the effective medicinal strains. Sativa is NOT AINDUSTRIAL HEMP.

That dude has no freaking clue about Horticulutre or better to say about taxonom and morphology all cannabis if its a hemp veriety or a drug veriety are all Cannabis Sativa L. so if Sativa or Indica they both can have even the same Cannabinoids. ofcause It gets very complicated when it comes of clasifying Cannabis because you can look at it from the Chemical compounds found so Cannabinoids terpines terpinoids and flavornoids. but you could also look at the Genetics and compare the DNA genome, Or use the most calssic and widly used method and just compare morphology.
