Jesse Lingard is a very curious case. For the longest time, many thought of him as an up and coming talent, even when he was fast approaching 30.
Where to next for him?

I really think Lingard should go to Luton for the rest of the season. Look what it’s done for Ross Barkley and Andros Townsend. Rob Edwards is a brilliant man manager who would definitely get the best out of Lingard. He could help keep Luton up if he finds his feet like he did at West Ham

My thing with Lingard is this. He's been used to astronomical wages for years but is clearly not worth those numbers now. Who is advising this lad? Not even the Saudis are trying to pay him that kind of money. He doesn't bring anything to a team to justify his weekly asking price.

He was a perfect fit at West Ham, but he thought he was too big time for the hammers. Sat a whole season on the bench coz he's not starting over Fernandes, then showed up at Forest overweight, to be outshone by Gibbs-White & Brennan Johnson.

@@drex5160 We don't know that. What we do know is ManU did not want to sell for less than 30 million pounds, which West Ham could not pay. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- @calc1657 If Jesse really wanted to return to london, it would have happened. Pretty sure United could have struck a deal especially since it was his last year, so they'd be losing him for nothing the next summer.

Had he signed with West Ham, Lingard could have transformed the narrative of his career. Instead, in a money move, he went to Forest. He took more money up front, but is now losing more money on the back end of career. At some point, the player has to take responsibility for his career.

Yea man Jesse was supposed to be on a upward trajectory after his loan spell at west ham obviously United didn’t put him up for sell but I personally believe Lingard maybe looked at it like “ok I’ve shaken the rust off, had some good performances at west ham, now the footballing public will respect me again and I can carry on” not knowing him not signing back with west ham would dent his career I mean he was started to get selected for England again, I even believe he should’ve been apart of the euro squad, but I’m hoping lingard finds a club soon

Lingard absolutely should have stayed at West Ham. That was the perfect opportunity to have a team on the rise built around him (amongst others), at the perfect age. You know the Hammers would have cherished a player like him, celebrations and all. Good luck to him & his family. Would love to see him find his way into punditry or something

It's odd that he hasn't secured himself a new club, certainly at his age. I can only assume that he is still considering himself to be a much bigger talent than the evidence shows and worthy of a much higher salary than anyone is willing to give him. If he ends up taking a whole season out there may be no way back to a club of a reasonably big stature.

I didn't expect that much from Lingard. He was going to be another Darren Fletcher, Wes Brown, Danny Wellbeck, John O'Shea kind of player who came out of the academy and was very useful to the first team as a squad player but ultimately if he wanted to be a first team guy he'd have to leave and that's kind of what he was. When people show that picture of Pogba, Morrison and Lingard and say "Ravel Morrsion was so good he was considered the best of these three" I always thought okay one of those guys won a world cup and broke the world record transfer fee so I get that but why are we acting like Morrison being projected to be better than Lingard is a big deal?

@@Mopark25 Hang on Fletcher is the guy that annoys you? Are you a real United fan? 😂 Fletcher was the most important of the players I mentioned by far. Fergie's greatest trick in the big games was to drop a first team player for a guy like Fletcher and tell him to stick to the other teams best player like glue and make it a 10 v 10 game without the other teams best player instead of 11 v 11. Fletcher was vital in the big games. Even after Fletcher left he did this with Park and Anderson. It's why Scholes was on the bench for back to back champions league finals against Barcelona. Because you had to kick one out in the big games for one of Fergie's hunters.
@pinealdreams1064
@pinealdreams1064 3 ай бұрын
I think he's agreeing with you on Fletcher being vital to big games and that's why he said not to put him in that group. I hope so, at least. Him missing the 2009 final arguably cost us. No way Barcelona have that much control with Fletcher and Park both chasing them down. That said, if he IS pro-Fletcher, should also be pro Brown. Wes Brown was absolutely top class and without injuries would have started. Also, anyone remember O'Shea's chip against Arsenal? One insane moment. Goddamn, Fergie was a titan at getting a tune out of average players by playing to their strengths.@@SonnyK248

I think Lingard’s best move at this point might actually be MLS. He can definitely shine in a league that is competitive, but not elite. He’d be the star at any MLS team he moves to, and I’m sure the lifestyle in the US would fit him well. Not sure we’d see him go to an unglamorous city like Cincinnati or Salt Lake or whatever, but I could see him doing well at LA Galaxy, Orlando City, Atlanta United, or a club like that. NYCFC will start to be a big destination for players in Lingard’s position too I think, but only once they build that stadium in Queens, since no one wants to come to the league to play in a ballpark.

I'm glad Jesse spoke out about the shit united are in. When people talk about how the Glazers aren't shit because "United spend money", it just shows how misinformed they are. When we look at the training facilities, the youth setup etc, it shows how much the club has been neglected over these past couple of years. They haven't put a single penny into the club, and they didn't even buy the club with their own money. What a cancer to the club they have been.

Its the social media, clothing range and J Lings celebration and dabbing that irks people. I don't understand how the football wage isnt enough to satisfy him. Lingards issue was that he loved Manchester and really wanted to play there but Manchester were and still are a total mess of a club, it's really no secret that the club have more or less stagnated since Sir Alex Furgeson, talented players like Lingard needed a better infrastructure around them to thrive, as you say, under Sir Alex, he would have done great. But the good thing is, he financially secured his future with various business ventures outside of Football so he's fine overall.

"as you say, under Sir Alex, he would have done great" No he wouldnt. He would have gone a similar route. His talent isnt much more than what already is. People act like he was ever good enough for the worlds elite when in fact he was never more than "Above average" for exactly a SINGLE year in his career. Im just saying: Anderson and Ravel Morrison. Even Diego Forlan flopped under Fergie. Fergie is a legend, but not everything he touched turned into gold. And he couldnt bring every wonderkid to its potential and he certainly couldnt bring a guy like Lingard to anything near world class level.

so sad. While everyone is responsible for their own actions, I think much of this is due to a BIG club with no leadership or direction. Hopefully we are fixing the structure at the top right now but we need like 5-6 regular starters who are captain level leaders to help talents like Lingard, Sancho, Pogba and Rashford focused. I always hoped Rashford could be one of those leaders but sadly he looks more like he could be the next Lingard now.

He should have always returned to West Han after his contract at United ended. He would have been starting in a team competing in Europe with a fan base that really appreciated him during his loan spell. Instead he went to Forrest for some extra money and completely blew it.

Sounds good & well put together on YT. Only the mainstream media boarded the Lingardinho hype train. Better suited for Tik-Tok & social media

Lingard got greedy and took the money option at Forest instead of a club which he has done well in, West Ham. If he joined them, he would have won the Europa Conference League instead of getting relegated. Ole also contributed to Lingard's downfall by insisting on keeping him at Utd but didn't play him.

Waiting for Wolves 3 - 4 United. Imagine England line up in 433 and rice seats behind Kobbie and Bellingham, we can only imagine.

Had he left Man United and went to Newcastle in 2015 then he would have been an good player

He is another Rashford party boy type. These newer players are nothing like the greatest players in the 2000's [2000-2010].

I always thought Lingard was a victim of ciming through the Man Utd system. Had he come up and produced like he did with a team like Aston Villa or West Ham he would have been treasured.

He's a great example of everything what not to do, he's been given great natural talent and wastes it completely, once he got a big pay check he thought he was Ronaldo, all he is is an Instagram gangsta, there's a good reason nobody wants him and it ain't nothing to do with talent or ability..... its his attitude. Sancho, Rashford, Greenwood, Pogba all the same, Instagram Gangstas. I only hope ETH has the balls to get rid of Rashford asap. Sign players who are hungry and care about football rather than they're Instagram accounts please 🙏

Lingard is still a very young player and will soon find a team which matches his talent.

I'll give you the jist with Lingard (from his time at West Ham): He was at the top of his game at West Ham (loan). Solskjaer lied to him saying he could get minutes and he chose to stay at Man U for another season (Ronaldo was also a big factor). He didn't get minutes and the following summer he had the choice between West Ham and Nott Forest. he chose Forest because of higher salary and performed poorly. We hate him at est Ham already and now his career is over! There's a lesson in there!

Imagine he had his best ever season in terms of goal contributions with half a season at West Ham. And then you dont follow that up with a move to that club? He’s delusional

Him joining forest could still had been a good way to prove he’s worth the money and playing time. Had he been the contributing factor to them staying up, but he played no role in it, thereby only proving his incompetency

He decided to go back to Man Utd because of Ronaldo. Can you imagine how good it is for his stupid brand Jlingz, the kids would think 'hey Lingard is a friend of Ronaldo, let's buy his clothing product'

As a West Ham supporter I don’t ‘hate’ Lingard, I am just totally bemused by his attitude. To me he is another Ravel Morrison, who also came to us from Man Utd and who also should have had the world at his feet. When Lingard returned to play against us with Forest, he didn’t do a thing throughout the entire match and was met with a chorus of ‘What a waste of money.’

I feel like the best thing he can do rn is take a bit of a salary knock and go to a 2nd row club outside of england. Atalanta, Sociedad or Wolfsburg come to mind. Get away from the press and calm down a bit.
