Poor child. I wish her mom had checked it out before allowing her daughter to go meet a stranger, but times were different and her hands were full. Maybe authorities on earth never caught him, but God did.

The research you’ve done is astounding. I’m so impressed with how much the police did without modern conveniences, especially the toxicology findings. When you think about many modern cases still don’t get solved, seeing how far the police in this case got is all the more impressive.

It's always sad when they don't find the killer, another well researched segment.

My guess is he skipped the country where his crime(s) weren't known. If so, he could have continued them elsewhere and no one would be the wiser.

My take on this is, Nora met Bennet-Hawkins while boarding with her friend. They began a relationship, though I don't think it was sexual. Maybe the promise of love and commitment once they move in together, but Nora and he would have to come up with a plan so she could leave home.But I think Bennet-Hawkins was actually grooming Nora and planning to pimp her, which is why he only needed one bed, one chair etc., he probably wanted the finer mattress because he hoped to have johns of substance. Once Nora left home thinking she and her new love would become a couple she was informed what her real purpose was and she didn't accept that. An argument ensued and out of fear, maybe Nora said she'd report him he strangled her. I would like to know what this man did for a living. He himself seemed quite well off. He went through a lot of trouble and expense to arrange all of this only to turn around and kill her. She was an investment.

Thank you, Briefy for giving the victims legacy, with your depth of research, the details you give of them before the crimes, and by naming the eps after them. I'm reminded that we aren't truly gone as long as our name is spoken. That young girl hadn't even begun to live. It's obvious she would have been a loving and responsible wife and mother by the way she wanted to help her family's finances and how happy she was to be going to look after a child. However she was brutally robbed of a future, and her family, specially her mum were left with a gaping void forever. Thank you for telling her story.

I love that one, because it hit close to home. My grandma and aunt lived on Greenwich St in San Francisco. San Francisco was beautiful then (not now), and that's the most lovely area. That's fourteen blocks from where I visited my aunt and grandma! Poor Nora! She was doing the right thing for her family and herself.

There is a Tenderloin neighborhood in San Francisco. It’s been a seedy place during the years when I would be in San Francisco. It seems a stretch to think the name of the neighborhood is related to this case, but now I’m curious.

Strange to hear addresses I live near and pass every day in one of these episodes. I literally live on the same block Nora was found dead in. That's literally my neighbour's house. Less than a 2 minute walk from me. Weird to think this very city, these very streets and buildings have seen drastically different lifetimes and kinds of people.

I feel like detectives a hundred years ago did thrice the amount of work that they do now. Now they just rely on forensic techs to solve everything for them and few do much footwork.

San Francisco was a very transient society at that time being a major sea port. It was a simple matter to use a different name in the city because most people weren’t there very long and could escape anytime onboard ships.

This was certainly an intense, convoluted, mysterious and disturbing case.

Another good video. At that time, it was so easy for people to slip out of sight and become someone else. It's a credit to hard, old-fashioned police work that they got so much information. I enjoyed the photographs and newspaper illustrations. Even allowing for the changes after the 1906 earthquake, I've walked or ridden the bus past these locations for years. Still familiar looking.

I like when it's from the point of view of the victim, because when it's from the point of view of the killer some part of me hopes they'll get away with it. It's just when I hear about their childhood I start identifying with them. Sadly for this one, I really wanted him to be caught and he wasn't!

Plus...they think the killer committed suicide- had been an accountant for a newspaper, and poor Nora...no record of where she was buried exists.

Lovely young woman, and all she wanted was to help her mom. The detectives were doing everything possible to track this man. For a moment it seemed they were close in finding him. This is not his first kill, he has been changing his appearance, residence and had the money to do so. Probably was married...🤔Hmm? Why wasn't his photograph circulated? Or mentioned in the Newspapers, his choice of cut of meat? This could have brought in more restaurant owners, and staff as eye witnesses to this case. Something is missing, besides the murderer. He got away too easily sir, someone helped him escape. Maybe someone assigned to the case knew him, and warned him. I hope and pray I'm wrong. Thank you for the case file sir. This is definitely a tragic story.

I like watching, well, listening to these cases as I go to sleep at night, and I liked the twist of it being unsolved at the end. nice bit of a twist there. you should throw one in like this once in a while, keeps us paying attention. good channel all in all, and the stories are good.

Great case! That poor girl. It seems that people were despicable a century ago as now.

Something is amiss in this story. This fellow seems more like a con man with things going on on the side rather than a murderer. Was he setting Nora up as A prostitute and wanting o sell her services to other gentleman? Something went wrong. He likely killed her but there’s a chance somebody he was associated with did the killing. He may have have been being killed himself and disposed of.

Its my belief that the murdered had an obsession with the girl. So he wooed her, groomed her, rented, the room - furnished with the bed, mattress and sheets- specifically for the sole purpose of luring, violating and finally murdering poor Nora.
