The one hard truth is Lima lied. Her company is sketchy at best. Laughing at Amanda while using AURA program was unprofessional and shows Lima as lacking empathy and understanding of what Amandas emotional state underwent going through HER VR program. Lima has taken every opportunity to sell her products on the back of Amanda. Even Amandas funeral was a sales pitch.

@@copperfronts1679 Honestly I was looking at it and thought where is the therapy? Lol, its pathetic how people think that technology can fix all of the world's ill. It's so elitist to me that sometimes its depressing. Lima is right though about homelessness. Spending money where its needed will help more pople like Amanda than keeping them on the streets. What I liked about Amanda's recovery was the jail to rehab pipeline. It worked. People need asisstance not punishment for their addiction issues, rehab over jail any day. I'm sure there are better organisations who do better than AURA.

@@copperfronts1679 its a ton of money and I'm no expert but maybe it doesn't have to cost that much. Lima's program is not the only one to try and help homeless people so I'm not married to whatever she brings to the table. But if its money or people, I'd choose people every single time.

@@copperfronts1679 I'm not American so I can't speak for them but I've noticed that there's always money to be found for bullshit while people are left to rot in the streets. Money and how to access it is never the issue in my experience. Whether there's an economic boom or a bust, there are always homeless people in the streets. The problem is, do the people in power care enough to priorities these people. Stigma means that they become shoved aside or institutionalised because politicians can rely on the fact that people won't care what happens to them. More awareness and empathy will go a long way to getting people like Amanda the practical help they need. SWU helped that to happen for her.
@BlueSapphi3
@BlueSapphi3 Жыл бұрын
@@copperfronts1679 @Copper Fronts I legit agree with you. But I can't help but wonder, in the condition that she was, could Amanda be expected to make any decisions for herself let alone the right one? I'm funny about what Mark does. It is absolutely exploitative entertainment, but it is in a grey area where it tries to do some tangible good also. Not everyone is Amanda so in different cases a cobservatorship may not be the way to go. But for me, if it was jail or rehab, I'd go to rehab. I can't remember how long the conservatorship would have lasted but I trusted that her father cared enough to look out for her best interests. Videos like this upset me because they end up doing exactly what they criticise others of doing. All this kind of sensationalism does is exploit Amanda posthumously and implicitly accuse her father of somehow being involved in alleged abuse. No matter how shady and overhyped 🙄 Lima's VR therapy is, whatever she did, she at least helped Amanda some. So did Mark. I just wish the bar wasn't so fucking low that I trip over it trying to make sense of everything.

We need more real people like you out there actually trying to help. I actually just finished typing up a comment on how I think rehabilitation should look like. I'm tempted to go back, copy and paste it here. Don't give up on your mom. Tough love and a hard stance, CAN be A option.. but most times it does more harm then good. Tho I'm a bit busy atm, and wasn't able to convey my thoughts on it as well as I could. I'm gonna BRB and share with you what I said. My dad died from a heroin over dose when I was 2 40 years ago. I know full well the devastation and hell, especially afterwards, that addiction can inflict. Also had my own struggles.. Thank you for sharing this Enoch. @@enoch2562 Heres SOME OF my thoughts on how to handle addiction that maybe could be helpful with your mom.. Just don't quit quitting. Keep trying different things til you find what works best for her. But also, I don't know your situation.. but don't burn yourself out either. Take good care of you first with proper boundaries so you can help her. I hope I wasn't wrong in assuming you're her son. Peace and many blessings to you and your precious momma.. Thanks to shows like Intervention and the tough love approach etc, in general, has taken a horrible issue and turned it into a monsoon. I'm not saying tough love isn't A.. method. Especially if the addict has ripped them off or they've tried everything else. But you can't force someone to make the same decisions you would. Addiction is much more nuanced then just stop.. or I'm done. It takes a person wanting it for themselves first of all. And then a support system that understands slips are part of the process. That there are actually A LOT of different ways to quit. When one method doesn't work then it's back to the drawing board with continual attempts/methods to stop until they're successful. But it takes a TON of support. Not abandonment or cohersion or blackmail. Very sad..

You don't want to go to rehab to get sober, the best thing to do is to go to A.A. (honestly even if your problem is drugs rather than alcohol) and if you are really concerned about that issue then go to N.A. Why? Because these organizations are free and it is set up in a way that you can find an honest group in any town or city, it is against the 12 traditions to make profit off of A.A. or for them to affiliate with any politics or outside issues. Anyone can make a group right now if any 2 or 3 alcoholics want to get sober. All the meetings are corrupted by outside issues or money? They can just make their own meeting that follows the 12 traditions correctly. Many churches and places allow A.A. meetings for a small fee which is handled by small donations from other alcoholics. Thats why sober living environments dont work, because its a money game. The sober living environment does not want you to get sober, they want you to keep paying rent, and they want you to get a government grant so the rent is always paid. A.A. can not and will not do that, A.A. will take you in from the street and give you a coffee and someone will find a place for you to stay and get you a shave and a job but only if you are serious. If your not serious they will see right through you and no one will help you. A.A. also has its issues but it is the best bet because if someone chooses to go to A.A. then they are being accountable. They are admitting they have a problem, and they are taking action on their own problem. If you follow the 12 steps correctly then you can't help but to get sober the fail rate in A.A. is from people who are court ordered to go, people who are going for someone else rather than themselves, people who are going for attention and the wrong reasons. It's a good place to find like minded people who understand you and its a good place to be. Instead of with your drinking buddies you get a bit of a dopamine kick from the social interactions. Bottom line it's not perfect but it will work for someone who takes it seriously and does it for themself and it is your best bet. To get sober, decide a safe day to quit cold turkey, do it, and go to A.A. that is your best option and I know you can do it because I did it.

I used to work at a mental health facility where many of the residents were under conservatorship. Conservatorships are really interesting (in a sad and frustrating way) in the sense that you can’t provide or do much for the conservatee without explicit permission from the conservator. With that being said, some family members of the residents had them under conservatorships with other people or parties (I.e. county or a lawyer) because they believed they would be able to leverage their experience to get the best care and resources for their loved ones. Watching this story so far, I wouldn’t be surprised if Lima convinced the dad to have her be named as the conservator instead in order to bypass all those restrictions. By naming her conservator, it helps her use her “therapy” with Amanda with the dad the guise he is helping her receive help and care promptly.

Maybe I'm naive but I feel like Mark's heart started off in the right place, I've been watching his interviews for yearsss because he really gets the raw perspective of people who are living lives that many have no clue about... I think Lima swindled him into thinking she was some innovator of rehabilitation and he thought bringing his audience to her would be a good move. Horrible. RIP Amanda... if he doesn't denounce his choice to work with and support Lima- his career will soon be over. Homeless, mentally ill, and drug addicted people are people.

This is pretty common in the sense that people are billed as much and as often as possible while the actual treatment is inadequate or even harmful. Very sad..

Recently graduated medical doctor here, just thought I'd shed some light on some of the drugs that Amanda was prescribed so people have a better idea of what was in her system at the time of her death: Hydralazine: Used for treatment of high blood pressure, but only in certain cases (such as when treatment with other more common drugs fails) as it ironically causes other cardiac effects that may be dangerous (including arrhythmias) due to sympathetic stimulation. Losartan: Commonly prescribed medication for high blood pressure, usually well tolerated by most patients. Gabapentin: It's commonly given for the treatment of seizures, but is also used in many cases of neuropathy (nerve damage-related pain/numbness) and very rarely for bipolar/anxiety disorders. So this suggests that she may have indeed had an undocumented seizure disorder that would usually present during the withdrawal phase after she got admitted into the treatment facility, or they might have prescribed it to her for peripheral neuropathy that is fairly common with usage of certain illicit drugs like meth. Usually well-tolerated as well with minimal side effects. Clonidine: It's rarely used for the treatment of high blood pressure (usually only in cases where other more common and well-tolerated drugs don't work), but more often given to patients suffering a drug addiction. It has a mild sedating effect, so combined with the heart rate-slowing effect it primarily has, it can help patients manage withdrawal symptoms which usually are associated with a high heart rate and restlessness, anxiety and insomnia. Kind of a one drug fits all situation for withdrawal symptoms specifically, but still usually avoided because of common side effects like dizziness and headaches. Risperidone: Very commonly prescribed medication for the treatment of schizophrenia. Weight gain is a very common side effect of the drug (likely one of the major factors for her rapid weight gain) along with some others like sleepiness, dizziness and movement problems. But for most schizophrenia patients, these usually are a small price to pay for a massive relief in schizophrenic symptoms, many patients I've seen have been on this drug for decades and had good results. Imo, it seems like traditional treatment with more common and well-tolerated drugs for her high blood pressure may not have worked, hence the use of some of these less common drugs for the same purpose. With her history (especially with regards to cocaine, a known cardiotoxic drug), it is possible that her heart had already been severaly damaged and traditional treatment with common heart drugs was tried but did not work. Risperidone and Gabapentin are prescribed together occasionally and usually don't produce any dangerous cross-reactions. But with 3 different drugs producing different effects on the heart with the purpose of lowering blood pressure, it is possible that this may have been what led to an arrhythmia and her death. It's difficult because there really isn't any other way to get the blood pressure down sometimes, I haven't personally seen all these drugs used in combination before during my time as a student, but it kinda does end up with these cocktails of drugs when there is no safer alternative that works, with this list of drugs it really does seem like she had high and treatment-resistant blood pressure which would have killed her eventually without medication to bring it down. These are just some of the thoughts I have and by no means am I saying this is exactly what's happened, just theorizing based on what I know. Tough situation all around and I hope she passed knowing she'd worked hard for herself and gotten better, and was proud of what she'd accomplished. RIP Amanda.

Also strange how they condition these patients to believe "relapse is a part of recovery..." almost as if they want them to relapse.... If you get a deep cut, doctor wraps u up and tells you to clean and reapply bandages you should do it. In this case take meds prescribed, get the counceling they provide and do your part to atleast honestly want better for yourself and the rest falls into place. If youve been about that life for 20 years you are unwilling to change and accept treatment. You are the problem. @Super Mario I'm sorry but I don't think you understand. Weight gain is a common side effect of many medications due to appetite increase and/or changes in metabolism. Additionally, most antipsychotic medications sap people of energy as they are quite sedating. This can result in decreased physical activity, which can also lead to weight gain.The idea that "self control" and caloric intake are the sole factors in weight gain displays a lot of ignorance on the subject.

Yeah that's what I came here to say. I do think Lima is sketchy especially for the fact that she lied about what the cause of death was. But I don't think the weight gain is her fault. Anyone getting sober is going to gain a bunch of weight at first. Because most serious drugs completely take away your appetite. So when you go off of them you're just starving and hungry all the time for a while. AND it sounds like she was on anti-psychotic medication for her schizophrenia and all of those known to cause a large amount of weight gain. But it's considered an acceptable side effect because it's significantly improves the quality of life of people with any type of psychosis. I do think it's weird Lima lied about it and that makes me think she's definitely hiding something but the weight gain isn't her fault. If anything that type of weight gain in a relatively short amount of time proves to me she really was sober the entire time.

Regardless of what truly happened ,it is werid and trippy to me that a rehab facility allowed an addict to be treated by someone who isn't formally trained with certification in mental health & addiction . Like, anyone with a startup i guess can just play with other people's wellbeing/recovery since i'm guessing there are no laws or regulations in place to avoid this sort of experimentation.

I know your comment is a year old, but what really happened is the third option that he presented at the end - the sinister one. I would really encourage you, and everyone else watching this, to watch all of the videos on Lima, Amanda, and Soft White Underbelly made by the incredible lawyer and investigative journalist BJ Investigates. She has pieced together all the disparate parts of this truly horrifying story, filled with the most insidious, evil people taking advantage of those who are most vulnerable (as always happens in our society) and has proved that Mark, Lima, and Amanda’s father were complicit in using Amanda for their own creepy financial gain, lying to the public about everything to do with her, and her eventual torture and death.

I used to watch every video from Soft White Underbelly until I came across Amanda’s story from BJ Investigates (the part of her story not told on Mark’s channel). Makes me feel sick and breaks my heart. Something has to happen so this doesn’t happen to anyone else. People shouldn’t be treated like rats. Drug addicts and homeless people are still people that deserve love and to not be experimented on.

The jumping up and down over her weight gain misses an important point: that often, former addicts become at least temporarily addicted to something else, be it food, or cigarettes, or even meetings. As long as the new addiction is less harmful than the last, I think it can be seen as a step in the right direction. No one Amanda's age dies from being her level of obese for less than a year. People DO die quickly of heroin, or cocaine, or by being killed by a trick. Being overweight is not the ideal, but is better for one's health than being homeless and addicted.

First and for most the entitled way that she said she chose Amanda makes My skin crawl. This woman treated Amanda like her project and property. And when a guilty person is interrogated about their actions towards another person The guilty person tries to minimalize the situation as much as possible. Her saying that they thought Amanda was just lying in her room peacefully sleeping raises big red flags for me. Why do you have to add the fact that she was peacefully sleeping she’s a grown woman not a toddler or an old person why does that part matter she’s trying to soften the situation and minimalize her in and the staffs involvement they knew that something was wrong with her and they did not intervene. Because either they cause a situation or they just didn’t know how to react to this situation and did not want to look guilty either way there is a cover-up here and her and that facility need to be completely and totally investigated.

I’m not sure how it is in rehabs, but I do know that other residential programs you’re supposed to checks throughout the night AND make sure the individual is actually breathing. In my state, is someone passes overnight, there’s an investigation done that the staff were doing proper procedures(making sure clients are breathing) because if they’re done correctly CPR etc can be administered… You obviously can’t resuscitate a body that’s been dead for hours. There’s a short period of time time to even bring someone back before brain damage and other complications occur. Seems like rehabs would have the same procedures and narcan 🤷🏼‍♀️

For those curious to know about the medication: Hydralazine (hypertension medication), Losartan (hypertension), Gabapentin (for muscle pain/seizure medication), clonidine (sedative/hypertension), risperidone (antipsychotic/bi-polar disorder), caffeine (stimulant, I do not know if it was caffeinated beverages or if she was taking caffeine pills), cotiinine (many reasons but for her, likely for depression/PTSD/schizophrenia), barbiturates (sedative/epilepsy), medicinal cannabinoids (spasticity/neuropathic pain). So the first five prescribed in the evening makes sense given her hypertension. It is not uncommon to be prescribed more than one at a time (source: personal experience). Interesting that she was on two treatments where the primary purpose is to treat epilepsy. While she might not have been having grand mal seizures, she could have developed petite mal seizures or, what they mistakenly thought was a petite seizure when it could have been a side effect of one of the medications mistakenly diagnosed. I highly doubt that her death was malicious in nature. If I had to take a guess I think that rapid weight gain could have been a side effect of the medications/over-eating as a substitute for not smoking crack. This would have led to hypertension (which she could have had prior to the weight gain (plus extended crack aiding to hypertension)) and, while they tried to treat it as best as they could to bring it down the drug use plus the weight gain could have led to cardiac arrest. It doesn’t seem like a sick experiment, it comes across as some competency issues (they should have limited her caloric intake/placed her on a low sodium diet) alongside her body having sustained too much damage prior to treatment. It’s my opinion but it’s based on having been prescribed all of those throughout my life (minus the barbiturates) and suffering from similar issues she did.

She was talking about being “videogamed” and “a bunch of different me’s running around”, expressing that she didn’t like it and wanted to stop. I don’t know what they do at rehab facilities, but I know that patients aren’t supposed to be exposed to their vices, and so Lima’s technology may have been opposite of that, providing triggers for patients.

That’s setting them up for failure and anyone whose been through it will tell you that’s a bad idea. Something is really fishy...

Just wanted to bring more awareness by encouraging everyone to pay close attention to, especially elite or perceived authorities, words, when discussing issues like this and particularly, homelessness. Which was already a growing problem, BEFORE the craziness of 2020. Lima said "people should not be allowed to be homeless". Sounds nice enough, especially to those on the more naive side. But there is increasing legislation being passed most recently in TN. Where they are actually criminalizing homelessness. You can tell a lot about a nation by how they treat their elderly and their vulnerable. Criminalizing this, is absolutely atrocious!! But this is also coming from a country with THEE highest prison population. Majority of them for committing non violent offenses, like drugs. Who ALSO gives massive draconian sentences to drug addicts, while crimes like SA.. or peedo/philia, barely receive, months long sentences.

My sister has been an Addict since I was 9, I am now 18. People suffering with addiction wont get better just because of the sheer will of someone else’s love towards them. Giving them clothes, money, rehab, ect, normally fuels the hunger to rebel. It got to the point, that my sister ended up fully turning my moms side of the family, against my dads. Unconditional love wont help someone’s addiction, it is their own choice. When they want to change, they will- sometimes the change is too late, but we can’t change that. My sister has lost almost everything, a home, to my mother adopting my sisters two daughters, and her family. We spent many years trying to help, and unfortunately I was involved with most. They become more angry, and more out of control through their binge. They say things they know will hurt you, but you never know how much is happening in their mind at the moment. I pray that anyone with family that is addicted, or people struggling with addiction are able to turn a new leaf. ❤

I'm an RN with years of experience administering all of the prescription drugs found in Amanda's system. The majority of them are run of the mill anti-hypertensive (high blood pressure) drugs and would be totally expected given Amanda's medical history. The gabapentin is a common medication often used for neuropathy - again, not surprising considering her background. And lastly, the Risperidone is a common antipsychotic med used for schizophrenia and more that 20% of people taking it experience significant weight gain. I am not saying that there isn't something dark or sinister going on, but those drugs alone don't indicate anything. However, like Patrick said, omitting the mention of them in Lima's response was suspicious. And all the vague details around Lima's 'cutting edge' tech was super odd. Also the video of Amanda using the VR was super unprofessional at best and a violation of federal HIPPA regs at worst. Seems like a money hungry entrepreneur trying to protect her business and reputation to me. I hesitate to call abuse or malpractice though.

Came here to say more of the same - the drugs shes on are pretty standard given her comorbids - I feel like the whole “they lied about her autopsy” is kind of a reach. They said she died peacefully in her sleep, which isn’t necessarily untrue, and it’s pretty likely that she said “only Tylenol” was in her system because that was the only non daily maintenance meds they found - they expected that she would have the other meds in her system because she’s prescribed them. I’m glad that the creator at least gave 3 different theories as opposed to just jumping to foul play immediately. Granted I wouldn’t rule out the possibility entirely, the evidence presented here is shakey at best but still interesting
