Ok this episode sold me on it. Very nice and now I need more details ad the parallel is the 15 minute city… you will own nothing and you will be happy. And if you believe that o have a bridge for sale.

For me, the setting came after I read the fiction trilogy attached. The core seemed less like the overall trilogy than I liked but overall the pieces were there. If Shadowrun was less fantasy and more horror, is the best one line opening I got. Also, less "cyberpunk" than usual. A more dystopian setting than even in typical cyberpunk. The 4 year terms of character creation process is why I build characters but somehow also have never played - building is more fun. Also, many older games didn't get the attention even back in the day. That one game you won't name claimed too much of the gaming population.

In the OT it speaks of idols made by man who cannot speak, hear or see. But with AI I am sure that we will see a commercial that says "ChatGPT: we see you, we hear you, listen to us speak". That is not going to go well.

Awesome video, I really enjoy how you present information. This series has me so wanting to pick this game up and give it a whirl. As regards the question of the vid: I think that as Christianity's moral precepts continue to culturally recede we will see more and more the effects of the economy without the influence of Christianity to help mitigate the excesses. More greed, bribery, corruption, and overall sinful barbarity will abound. Will drift further and further away from the beautiful statement of Galatians 5:14, namely that the law is fulfilled in loving thy neighbor as thyself. Tragedy awaits.

Parallels: too many and too immediate. Feels like we are going there and we will get there if we are not careful. Feels too much like we are on the precipice of Germany in its transition from 1932 to 1933. Which does feel like something Dark Conspiracy used as a data point in how a society breaks down.

"The government still exists, but it is much more remote-" don't threaten ME with a good time! QOTV... Whoof, that's a rough one. There's a lot that feels half right: economic disaster from the banks doubling down on bad investment, corporate power growth, and the police being unable to keep peace in urban areas all resonate, but there's always some critical aspect that keeps it from truly being parallel to the modern day. Guess the closest I'd say is the unchecked corporate influence.

QotV: Oh boy. The parallel I see the most is mismanagement of assets, and the C suit of corporations having massive pay outs even with those missteps that ruin economic progress for lower classes

With regards to the question of the vid, I see a disturbing amount of parallels with some unfortunate inaccuracies. Certainly the economic collapse following banks playing high stakes is all too close to home these days. Corporations reducing government is off because the corporations have lobbied their way into the government and towards inept bloat instead. Socialist implosion was on the money. The voting rights act was unnecessary with lobbying already existing, although your country's discussion of letting outsiders vote simply by being in the United States at the time is pretty crazy in my books. I think the setting fails to paint the FBI as the major and, in my view, corrupt player that it has become. Overcrowded urban metroplexes with large swaths of wilderness partrolled by occasional authors is pretty much the country I live in and the path it is bent on, and it's getting worse. Suburbs being nightmarish seems off to me as to my experience, the inner city is the dangerous region within any city and the further out you go, the safer and wealthier the neighbourhoods become. The part about the "law has had enough" seems comparable to where New York City has gone based on my news feeds. Rich neighbourhoods being well patrolled and having corporate private guards was also a little too close to home.

QotV: Governments are printing so much money they will soon make it less desirable than other currency options. Failure to maintain law and order will breed more crime and soon vigilantes will become the norm.

Dark Conspiracy is a game my group played once. We loved the lore, but did not care for the system. Please note at that time ttrpgs were all trying to have "one page" character sheets, where after character creation you only had to look at the sheet to know what to roll etc. I hope some game system like Cypher or Savage Worlds picks up this system and continues it. As for the parallels to our current world, the idea of "Unrestricted Capitalism" (an idea from the 80s, along with trickle down theory) was steering the ship in this direction and without restrictions on capitalism this was the end destination. We do not yet have megacities but if you work for some companies now, they are trying to have people inject RFID tags and stay on corporate campus for all your human needs.

Interesting perspective and comment, I liked reading what you said. I agree with your response to the question of the vid, and I think the idea of the RFID tags is indeed chilling. I once worked for an employer that insisted that we download certain apps on our mobile devices, and when I reviewed the terms of use I encountered a clause indicating that if it is enabled, the geolocation feature could be used to track us in real-time. I found this to be highly disturbing.
