Lootboxes should just get out of gaming. They bring nothing good to the table. Why I wouldn't be able to work towards the skins in overwatch. Do this and you get this skin. But corporations only care about money.

I mean, of course, they think that's because the people running ESRB ARE the game publishers in essence. It's "self-regulated ratings" and always has been. It's literally owned by the ESA who, BTW, have members from some of the top publishers of games (AKA the people who profit the most from loot boxes). I'd expect no less from the ESRB then for them to Kowtow to their masters like that. What were you expecting really?

I don't disagree with you for the most part, but I wholeheartedly disagree with your sentiment that Overwatch does lootboxes right. I don't think there is a right way to do lootboxes. Video games are a meritocracy, as you have stated in several videos before. However, lootboxes destroy this sense of progression that has always been through challenging the player. You make the argument that these boxes only hold cosmetics, and while use, it is far less agregious than pay to win, it is still bad for the player.

It's gambling, I've been making that exact argument about people saying it's not gambling with the penny payout.I'm sure you've seen Jim Sterlings video about "it's just cosmetic" imo proving it's a weak argument. I think it's pretty evil having people spend hundreds of hours and dollars obtaining things that have subjectively no value in order to get one thing that does. I play Smite and it's definitely killing the game for me. Any and all lootbox systems are inherently anti consumer.
