WE"RE REACTING TO ANDOR FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME!
In an era filled with danger, deception, and intrigue, Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a Rebel hero.
About Star Wars Andor:
Andor, also known as Star Wars: Andor, is an American science fiction television series created by Tony Gilroy for the streaming service Disney+.
Beginning five years before the events of Rogue One (2016) and A New Hope (1977), the series follows an ensemble cast of characters during the time that a Rebel Alliance is forming in opposition to the Galactic Empire. One of these characters is Cassian Andor, a thief who becomes a revolutionary and eventually joins the Rebellion.
Andor was a vital part of Rogue One, the team that ultimately succeeded in obtaining the Death Star plans from the Imperial facility and uploading them to the Rebel Alliance. He and every member of Rogue One gave their lives to save billions of others.

You can see on Diego Luna's face exactly what goes through Cassian's mind during that talk with Skeen: "He wants me to betray Vel for the money. If he's willing to betray Vel, he's willing to betray me. If I get on a ship alone with him, he'll kill me the first chance he gets and take it all. So I can't accept regardless of my morals. But if I say no, he'll kill me so I don't tell Vel about his offer. Fuck. My only way out is to kill him, right now, while he's still not expecting it." Great facial acting.

That Colonel Petigar, from the Army Engineering Corps, really suprised Me when He puts his life at risk to save the Commandant's Son. I expected Him to fearfully comply or at the very least try to fight back out of a misguided sense of Duty and Patriotism, rather than selfless compassion. Notice Luthen doesn't know if the attack succeeded, who lived, who died. ALL he knows is it made the headlines!!!! THAT'S all that matters for him. He laughs so happily without even knowing what happened. Important character moment... And no, that's not a script oversight. The show really doesn't have any significant ones at all as far as I can see.

Such a good episode! One thing I thought about in this episode that I didn't when I watched it myself: The initial thought is that Cinta and Vel are together and separate from the others because Cinta and Vel are a unit. But Skeen mentions that Stormtroopers slaughtered her whole family. So, perhaps part of the reason Cinta is with Vel is because she would have a difficult time taking orders from Taramyn (the former trooper) and Vel didn't want the potential friction. I know Cinta seems like she can compartmentalize a lot, but maybe that would be a bit much... Andor sure gives you a lot to think on. I love it.
@kreyain7455
@kreyain7455 4 ай бұрын
Cinta is going with Vel because there are no female troopers in the garrison. There is no way for the 2 women to get into the base unless they sneak in. I'm guessing Cinta was able to sneak out in an officer's uniform was because it was night time and it would be harder to tell that she was a woman in the dark.

Cassian for really uncomfortable when Nemik said, in acceptance, not accusatory tone, that Cassian was a tool, the rebels should learn to use mercs, etc. It's one thing to say you will do for money, it's another thing when someone says you are that, but without accusing you. But when the other dude said Cassian was JUST LIKE him, while saying they should steal the money, it hurt Cassian even more. So THAT is the kind of people others see him as. And worst... The brother story connected Cassian to him... It was the guy's apologies. And Cassian spent years searching his sister. And the brother story was a lie I guess that was what made Cassian decide to kill him
@colleybri8912

Love this. I think it’s a combination of this, and the very practical reason mentioned above that Skeen will kill him if he refuses the offer. To make the offer at all, Skeen has to have a lot of confidence that Cassian will say yes otherwise it is extremely dangerous for him (he’s a nasty bit of work, but not stupid. ) I love the way that the anger and disgust become more and more evident on Cassian’s face and that he actually takes the shot on the words “split up the winnings”. I bet both were thinking back to when Cassian said “ I want to win and walk away”. In fact, Cassian is so emotionally affected by what Skeen says that he almost lets the mask slip when he says “… and just leave them here”. Fortunately for him, Skeen just thinks he’s “ playing the high mind.” For someone who is often (erroneously, I think) described as a cold-blooded killer this is an extremely emotional kill for Cassian.

I feel like this is supported by her and Vel’s previous exchange where before Vel left with the group and she asked Cinta if she’d be ok. Although it could’ve been a mirror to Vel’s hesitation on the bridge, it feels like Skeen saying she’s ruthless further proves she slaughtered that family as storm troopers slaughtered hers. As a western viewer, you kind of hold “terrorists” in a cartoon evil frame, but if a state kills a civilian’s family in a ruthless manor, it shouldn’t come as a shock that that civilian would fight back. *spoiler for the last arc/episode* I forget his name, but the son of that guy who gets interrogated for helping Bix is a great example of this

I have been raving about every unique thing I think this show does, the way it looks at and shows us parts of the Star Wars universe that we've never seen before, but I think this episode dials it up another notch. We get a look at Imperials as real human beings, with a family and the drama that comes with it. We see an Imperial risking his life to save an innocent child, a child put in danger by our heroes. The Aldhani people don't look like they came from a sci-fi fantasy world, with their furs and ancient traditions. The Eye was an incredible visual spectacle, and shots of TIE pilots getting into their craft with that sky behind them are better than some of the visual in the movies. The character deaths feel so realistic, even Nemik getting crushed by the money. I don't think any Star Wars story (besides Rogue One, but there's a clear link there) would dare to kill off so many of the heroes so mercilessly and suddenly. And at the end, once again, I love the writing and the decision for Cassian to take no chances with Skeen. Before he pulled the gun, I was thinking it - Skeen was too dangerous. It would only make sense for Cassian to take him out before Skeen tried the same. And Cassian did it with such ruthless efficiency, it was just a hugely satisfying moment. Looking forward to the next episodes. You're hitting the peak, and the peak lasts all the way to the end.

2:34 This is one of the many unfortunate issues Star Wars has, but not in a bad way. George Lucas deliberately made the original trilogy very black and white, good vs evil with little actual explanation or world building until the prequel trilogy And then he made the politics extremely convoluted because of his own political views, which isn't bad in any way, he was reacting to the Bush W era. I mean Nute Gunray.... Couldn't be referring to Newt Gingrich at all hahaha The problem is GL added context to the background of Star Wars that a lot of people miss. The Republic was seriously corrupt and depraved. Slavery was rampant, injustice was everywhere, the senators that stood for reform where themselves nobles and 1 percenters (like Bail Organa) that actually supported Palpatine's rise to power (like Bail Organa). Humans were a good percent of the galactic population but among the most disenfranchised of galactic citizens just above Twi'leks. We see that in The Clone Wars series. That's why the Empire is majority human. Palpatine didn't create the Sepperatists, he used them. He didn't control the Techno Union, Banking Guild or Trade Federation. Non humans did. The Republic's corruption and lobbiest sellout is what led to Naboo being annexed by the Trade Federation. And even the Jedi were corrupt. They were so clouded by their own self righteousness they couldn't see a Sith rising to take everything away. So when they say the Empire restored order and balance, it actually did. And backed it up with military force the Republic was too weak to even have. They had no combined military to keep any peace. They outsourced to self interested Jedi. "But they were harsh and fascists"... they were also fighting insurrections and the remnants of Seperatist forces that refused to accept the new order and more than the old one. And they had powerful senators that didn't want to lose that power and large corporations undermining them for the same reason. So Palpatine destroyed them and brought them in to the Empire under his control. Then he disbanded the Senate because.. gee.. Rebellions anyone? So while the Empire isn't "good", neither is the Rebellion. The people of the Galaxy still suffer from both. Andor shows that perfectly. The Empire didn't destroy Casian's homeworld. The Republic did.

Nemik and Skeen both projected themselves on Cassian: Nemik though Cassian was a true believer. Skeen didn't think Cassian could be trusted. Skeen is basically Cassian in the first episode, and we see how far Cassian has come. He's not a believer, but he's not an empty mercenary who's in it for himself and the money. I'm still not sure if Skeen meant that he *never* had a brother and was lying, or if he doesn't have a brother anymore, and nothing will bring him back, so why not be out for himself?

Nemik very easily wove the use of mercenaries into the work of rebellion. His faith in the rebellion allows him to believe victory lies at the end of every path. Remember earlier a corporal had said, "Can you imagine the smell of thousands?" Lieutenant Gorn (who had been there seven years), said, "Yes, I can." Now, the commandant confirms that only a few years before there had been 15,000 Aldhanis at the event...so the lieutanant certainly could imagine thousands because he'd actually seen thousands. And, yes, the implication was that the Aldhani leader could speak enough Basic to know he hadn't been translated accurately. The natives know they must know more about the colonizers than the colonizers know about them.

@@pseudonymousbeing987 Any way Skeen's ultimatum puts Cassian in a dire predicament. Should Cassian refuse to cooperate, Skeen could either eliminate him, falsely accusing him of attempting to seize the money and then target Val, or join forces with Val to end Cassian's life. Compliance, on the other hand, would likely result in Skeen murdering Val and eventually Cassian too, once he's served his purpose. Consequently, Cassian faces the grim choices of either being constantly in danger or succumbing to death. He's also aware that the Empire will relentlessly pursue him, necessitating the use of Alliance resources for any chance of survival. Furthermore, attracting the wrath of both the Empire and the Alliance is the last thing he wants. Thus, for Cassian to both survive and triumph, he must neutralize Skeen without inciting the Alliance's hostility. In essence, Cassian's actions are still self-serving. Yet, he is not naive. He understands that Skeen's scheme attracts too many adversaries and offers scant opportunities for escape.
