The Football Club That Won 0 Points This Season

3 жыл бұрынSheffield United won just 23 points in the Premier League this season, meanwhile Schalke managed a measly 16 as they were relegated from the Bundesliga.
However, there is one team in English football this season, to whom those are gargantuan points tallies - since they didn't win a single point all season in the Vanarama National League.
So in this documentary, HITC Sevens takes a look at the plight of Dover Athletic, their fightback against the National League and the government, and the wider issues facing the English non-league game.

They’re not going to be in National League South in 2021-22 - they will remain in the National League.

@@AldershotDave He meant for the following season. With a 12 point deduction and only 4 players, it is highly unlikely they will survive relegation next season. But as was mentioned in the video, it is better to fail to survive relegation than to fail to survive period.

Maybe the FA could start a player adoption scheme. Have each player in the PL donate a week's wages to a FL club once a year? If you can sponsor a Koala at a zoo, why not a FL club?

The moment you start giving away free money will be the moment the owners of smaller clubs start being reckless with their finances in the pursuit of promotion as we already see in the Championship where so many clubs overspend. You simply have to life within your means and find ways to stay sustainable and profitable.

This is a story here it feels like its not actually the chairman's fault. He wants to keep the club stable with no debt but with the pandemic hitting clubs hard and the government/national league essentially being a**holes towards Dover and non-league clubs and yea puts huge strain on the club

The gouvernmnt and footballing bodies in this country are both entirely fucked. How you can have £100m+ TV deals at one end, and clubs like Bury ceasing to exist at the other is ludicrous, especially in the midst of a global pandemic. I won't blast the gouvernment on their handling of the pandemic in general (although you absolutely could), but their handling of football and sport in general has been absolutely shocking.

I live in Dover near Dovers ground and I also came through the clubs youth ranks aswell and it’s actually so sad what’s going on. Literally grew up watching all the games and saw Dover come up loads of divisions and nearly reach the football league and have seen them reach the fa cup third round against Crystal Palace. I’m hoping they make a full return one day. Come on you Whites.

I live in Dover I’m even ball boy at the club there and it is nice for someone to cover what these people have done to our wonderful club and understand what is happening to us and not be able to watch our club is very hard all the fans love the chairman and actually appreciate what he is doing for our club unlike the greedy owners that wanted the super league so thank you Alfie from all of Dover athletic we appreciate what you have covered ❤️

History shows using scratch teams made up of Youth players comes at a heavy cost... Weymouth in 2009 proved this, when they had there record defeat inflicted on them which ended 9-0, those kids should never have been put in that situation, Boys should never play against Men in that situation. Same happened at Durham City in the late 2000's, they lost there sponsorships and financial backing when the National League decided against Artificial Pitches, so Durham lost all there players, and were left with a Youth Team, who took to the pitch every week, they were routed in every game and very nearly finished that season on -6 points, 2 late season wins saw them finish on 0 points... It really served no purpose and probably didn't do much to the development of a team of College Students... But whether Dover were right or wrong on refusing to finish the season, the right decision was made to put out Youth teams in the National League

Lovely surprise for a video on my club. We still believe we can fight against this and survive next season. We will rebuild though even if we do. I remember as a kid fundraising for the club when we were about to be declared insolvent at what was supposed to be our last game before we got saved. We were still fighting even then. We will fight now.

I cannot explain to you how much I absolutely love these videos man. Lower league and non league football is just so fascinating to me! We don’t have this in American sports because all of the teams are financially established already with big connections and funding and bailouts if necessary which in my opinion makes American sports have less of a soul. There is no struggle in American sports because there is hardly any sacrifice or hardships.

Yes it is an obvious lie. If you enter into a meeting like that and don't see anyone keeping minutes you keep them yourself then distribute to confirm everyone agrees that this is what was discussed. Basic operating that even charities manage to perform. I am calling BS on there being no minutes.

I feel bad for the club, I know on listening to interviews with David Johnson the chairman at my local non league side of Darlington FC he confirmed that because their club is fan owned he voted to void the national League north for the same reasons as this Dover chairman as he simply couldn't saddle the club with this debt

Im a supporter of Dover Ath (as you can see). And I have been worried about this situation since the pandemic begun. I'm not ready to see my club die before me, I want the National League Board to actually do something. Finally, I want the Government to actually keep there word and give smaller clubs the grants... not loans. I believe that Jim is doing the right thing by standing up to the big bosses of the National League. But, I fear it may destroy the club. Realistically, our appeal of the fine will not be accepted and we will go down next season. But I don't want us to die. I'm scared. COYW!!!!! DOVER TILL I DIE

My mate supports Dover Athletic. When we first got onto football via the old Championship Manager games (think we had a demo of the 00-01 season?), without knowing much about the clubs, hierarchy or history. We opted to choose 2 random teams from the Conference National. I chose Forest Green and he chose Dover. Crazy to think how much the fortunes of both clubs has changed since then. Respect to the chairman of Dover. I think he is making the right decisions to not recklessly gamble on the future of the club. Hopefully it works out well for them and other non league sides doing it tough at the moment.

I love watching Dover, they’re my local team and it’s so so sad to see all the money in the higher leagues with national league clubs collapsing and I just hope Dover can rebuild themselves soon. I have so many memories watching them, the fa cup against Crystal Palace and the playoff promotion final win against ebsfleet. It’s so so sad to see them fall down like this. I wish to return to crabble soon.

I support a team in the conference North and we got emails asking if we wanted our money back for season tickets or leave it with the club as a donation, only 2 people asked for their money back which was a huge boost.

Some players in national teams started in small clubs as youth so it's bad for football for clubs going bankrupt and dissappear. For example Sebastian Larsson the Swedish international started to play for ifk Eskilstuna which is playing in division 2 in Sweden. Zlatan Ibrahimovic used to play in fbk Balkan as a youth who plays in division 3 Götaland before he got signed to Malmö FF, swedish club in allsvenskan (swedish premier league) is a very good example for smaller clubs. Big teams have scouts actively watching team in lower leagues for talents to snatch.

Dover to me was watching Halifax Town play them twice away. Long long journeys. Also the story where a Dover fan missed the coach so travelled in his Robin Reliant to Halifax. They won 0-1.

I think a good video idea would be a video on League 2's Exeter City. We are a fan owned team which in my opinion has one of the best Academys for are league.

Sad story. I really hope they pull through. I reckon they can get a huge amount of spectators is they give discounts to lorry drivers stuck for days in the lorry park.

I support Dunbar United and our club manager, Geoff Jones, actually played for Dover Athletic back in the 90’s and 2000’s. He’s very sympathetic to their situation and speaks nicely of his time at The Crabble.

I remember in the community Dover got slated for not wanting to continue the season but good on them. None of us (Blyth fan) should of started the season. We were massively lied to by everyone important above us. And people got fined for not fulfilling fixtures because there was absolutely no need to continue the season when we weren't getting supported....

I believe a few years ago Brechin City won only 4 points (4 draws) in the Scottish Championship and since then they’ve been relegated every season since down into the 5th tier
