Yes!!! Adoption and fostering children is the best way to go. Just here in the U.S thousands of youths are entering foster care on the daily and most often age out instead of being reunited with family. Also Adoption through fostering is a lot cheaper.

our individual effort are not enough. We need intelligent governance. WE need laws that recapture the old sun energy that we are burning. ( gaz= old sun energy that was trapped inside the earth). now everything has to rebalance. WE might not survive this if governance does not control greed.

when you brought up always wanting to be a mom, and now having to reconsider based on the future of the earth, genuinely brought tears to my eyes. because I imagine when you were young, as all of us were, we just wanted to grow up and have kids and what we would name them and if we wanted a boy or a girl - we never ever imagined that we would have to reconsider having kids because the earth won't be able to sustain them for their lifetime. such a great, great video xox

Just putting it out there, not all of us had those thoughts about wanting to have kids and become a mom. I never have, and just coming to terms with that now. Not all of us have that drive that you and Kalyn are speaking of. :)

Just thought I'd share 2 easy swaps I recently made with anyone browsing the comments: 1) No more disposable napkins! I have a set of cloth napkins in my kitchen. I keep one in my lunch bag and the others at home for meals. I reuse it until it's dirty enough to wash (which isn't often). I keep the one I'm currently using at home on a hook inside a cabinet door until it's dirty enough to wash. 2) No more makeup wipes or cotton rounds! I have 1 designated washcloth for removing makeup and I use warm water and/or coconut oil to remove it. It's cheap too in comparison to makeup remover! Both of these swaps will save you money long term! The smallest changes turn into habits and at some point, you forget what you even did before!

GIRL I’ve been WAITING for this from you. I’m so happy for these daily brews and your podcast where you can talk about things like this. Also if you’re ever bored I highly recommend the podcast “The End of the World with Josh Clark”. It’s only 10 episodes and not nearly as dark as the title might make it seem. It’s actually very moving and my favorite quote about the hopefulness of humanity ever is from it: ““I hope you come to feel as I have about humanity as a whole; that we are flawed and ugly and brutal, for sure, but we are worth fighting to save, even if from ourselves. That the beauty and love humans are capable of creating is greater than the worst of our flaws.... it’s a bizarre thing to say but I find it worth saying: humans don’t deserve to go extinct.”

You would be an amazing mom, and you don’t need to give birth to be one. Something that I could see for you is being an adoptive parent, because those kids need a home so much more than, as you said, the world needs more humans. I personally don’t plan on having kids bc I do think the next generations are going to have to face the unfortunate ecological repercussions that we are leaving behind, but having thoughtful parents like you creating a thoughtful generation is at least progress.

The future is definitely scary to think about especially how we are going now and with the people in charge. As far as kids go I have also always wanted to be a mom but I've always wanted to adopt. There are so many kids out there already who don't have a loving home through no fault of their own.

It brings me so much comfort (in such an odd way) that I’m not the only one who feels so drawn to being a mom but yet questions what my future kids and grandkids lives may be like and legitimately fearing the unknown. It’s so crazy, but you just really helped put things into perspective. 💕

You are not alone in your worries. I have three kids and I think all the time " what have I done?"... 🌎💔 Alone, I can handle facing the end of the world- but those little things are like phantom limbs. I feel thier pain so much more than my own. It's a mind-f*** trying to be okay with knowing that they very well may have to face one of the myriad of terrible ways that things could go down.

I’ve always had that mom instinct, i’ve always felt like being a mom is my “purpose” in life, much like you. But recently, I don’t want kinds. I don’t want to birth my own children, because that’s just adding to the million of human on this earth destroying it. I decided (not even close to having kids) that i will adopt if i get the chance to. I think that’s the best way to serve my purpose & still help the earth and kids in the foster care system. This has been the most meaningful video you’ve put up in a WHILE! Thanks for that.

Webster's named the word of 2019, "existential". It's a difficult time when making big decisions for the future. It's good to see you younger people waking up. It gives me hope that the "human experiment" will not be a failure. At least not within the near future.

I 100% agree with your friend about the people who make conscious choices about having kids are the ones who should be having them! Also, I’d argue that if you’re still hesitant about having a kid solely because of population that there are TONS of children out there waiting to be adopted. They’re in the need of having an awesome parental figure. My little sister is adopted and although I have a biological kid, I’d like to foster/adopt one day.

I'm so happy you're finally talking about this! I've been watching you for four years now and have seen how you slowly decided to make more and more conscious decisions. There's always a lot of pressure associated with taking the first baby steps and I'm glad you're handling it so well whilst taking care of yourself and your mental health - that's so important 💗 With the whole AI-thing I recommend "Homo Deus" by Yuval Noah Harari. It's a nonfiction book that dives deep into all those possibilities (human engineering, AI making all our decisions etc.) while not beeing too negative about it. He also has amazing points to make when it comes to how we currently treat animals and how this could impact our future (he's vegan too 😊). The dailies have been amazing lately, thanks so much! ☺️

Because there are generations growing up knowing whats happening to the world and making changes, we can raise the next generations to think more, look after the world and be more aware of their impact. My young niece is more aware of being eco friendly than any kid in my generation was at that age. At 4 she tells her mum to take the reusable bags, she has her own water bottle and gets upset when she doesnt have it. So theres hope

i agree. my biggest concern for the world is the environment and how we treat the environment. we constantly get rid of forests and we constantly trash our oceans. like a lot of research is saying, we only have a certain amount of time to try and start to reverse the effects we’ve caused. it’s very scary for me to think about because i notice that while there is a handful of people in the world who do care and are on top of the situation, there are SO many people who do not give a shit at all. and i think those people who do not care, are what scares me the most.

That's awesome that you're working on being more eco-friendly! One thing though: organic does not necessarily mean better for the environment (at least here in the U.S.) - eating local is much better for the planet! Also, let's all remember that putting the onus of saving the environment on individual consumer choices is 1. a way to deflect responsibility from corporations and 2. keeps us buying stuff. Get involved in politics for large-scale change!

Recently I've been educating myself more and more about the environment and the things I've learnt freaked me out so bad that now I'm trying my best to be as low waste as possible and about a month ago went from occasionally meat-eating to fully plant-based. This is something i have thought a lot about and even been scared of thinking about, because i too have always wanted kids, even if its not now (im only 22). I am so scared to bring up a kid in a world that we have destroyed. but your insight eased it a little bit, i had to cry a bit. also i am gay so i would probably adopt, thereby being able to raise a kid in a more eco-conscious environment than they would have if i didnt adopt them. this really gave me somthing to think about, again, thank you

I would highly recommend the book 21 Lessons from the 21st Century by Yuval Noah Hurari. He talks about all of these things and much more, and it’s all super relevant to the global issues we have today. He also talks about artificial intelligence, and he made a good point that computers are just that: computers. They can’t actually gain consciousness, so the fear of AI “taking over” humanity or some kind of robot revolution is completely unrealistic

This is so true, these topics concern me a lot too. And one of the main things is that it's true people are getting more conscious but then there is bussiness: I've worked in mass production companies and restaurants and it blows my mind how much garbage they produce and don't even blink an eye about it. In commerce it's all about selling, whatever the price is and it scares me, that no one is concerned about the amount of plastic bags, plastic covers, straws etc. Individuals can change their mind but if there are companies that care only about consumption and selling, there is not much we can do, I guess. It's hard to convince a millionaire director of a brand to go more eco-friendly if it wouldn't give him the millions of money he has. No one in particular, just metaphorivally saying the real situation, how it is. Not even mentioning fast foods ahah But yeah, those are my thoughts. We should get more education on this topic but there are still going to be people who don't care unfortunately. But maybe one day they'll change their minds? Let's hope so💝

Also, I love that you talked about your struggle with wanting to have kids but do so responsibly. I've also thought a lot about it and think that, for me personally, having one kid of my own and experiencing pregnancy, then adopting a second, is the right move for me. As a parent I think of this every day. Yes some of us don't plan on procreating anytime soon but sometimes things happen. I recently found out I am pregnant with my second. And trust me neither this one nor my oldest were planned. Am I trying to raise my oldest and her cousins to respect the Earth and the world we live in. Yes! One reason we have a 20 acre farm were we raise our own animals and grow our own veggies. We plan on putting in fruit trees next but need to fix a few thing first. But just because people eat meat doesn't mean they need thousands of acres to raise multiple animals for consumption. It's crazy the way the commercial agricultural business thinks one needs so much land to grow/raise animals and vegetables/fruits It's just crazy. PSA: Just so those of you saying go vegan....they still have to clear land for your vegetables and fruits.....

I haven't worried about AI all that much. But the future of the environment scares the hell out of me. Like you said, I've always been big on the environment and animals. In and out, yes, I think that's just natural. The things I've been seeing over the past few years, especially in regards to the sheer tons of plastic in our ocean, really have me terrified. And for my uber conservative family to start noticing how bad things have gotten.... that's saying something

I'm really glad this topic is out there and that you are trying to get everyone to pay attention to this. Especially with the whole discussion in America (I know you are from Canada but I don't doubt you have a lot of American followers). Climate change is not a topic for discussion, it's happening now, right before our eyes. Summers in Europe are getting warmer, the weather is going crazy.. Some things we can do: Reduce plastic, reuse what you can, don't give into the fad of buying something new constantly but think about what you purchase. Go veggie or vegan (at least one day a week!) About having kids, yes you can raise children that are more eco-friendly but I have read on several sites etc that having kids is one of the most polluting things you can do.. So maybe adopt a child and raise this child with your views and ideas. It will not put another human being on the earth which is already stretched to her capacity. And this is just a reading idea for Kalyn (and everyone else that reads this) Dan Browns books have a lot of ideas that might hit home with some of you. Yes it is fiction, but the points he makes are actually incredible. Especially: The Lost Symbol, Inferno and Origin. I highly recommend! (The books NOT the movies!) I hope I got to help some people, I still have a long way to go with being more eco-friendly, but don't we all? We do what we can and where we can we should try and improve ourselves, for us, the animals, future generations and especially the planet!

If so, at what point would they be considered a sentient entity that is entitled to certain inalienable rights? Will we as humans encroach on those rights horribly? I'm also so glad you're talking about environmental devastation. I'm a college student studying marine biology and every day I can't help but worry about whether the thing I love so much I want to devote a lifetime to studying it, will soon be far less biodiverse, and unrecognizable to most of us. I really enjoyed this daily brew! You should talk about topics like this more!

Since working in the online marketing industry, I am aware that AI is a big thing that can possibly take over our life in a way. But in my opinion, and I know that this is very pessimistic, we as humans will have destroyed ourself before AI has any chance to do that. But despite this being so pessimistic, I have hope. As you said, many people are getting aware of all the problems in the world. And I think that the "Things" humans have done to the world cannot be made undone entirely and that our and the worlds future will look a lot different to what we know now. But I think humans are able to "become friends" with the earth again and that there can be a different but livable future for the earth and humans.

our habitat is a thin layer of air around a rock . Our rock has liquid iron in its core and that is what keeps that air from escaping through space. Our rock is traveling at 100millions meters in one hour through space. our habitat is very fragile. again so sorry. i love your positivity! i feel less crazy now that you are worrying about the future too.

AI is definitely a scary topic to start investigating, and personally, the only way I see we stand a chance "against" it is through that global Consciousness Awakening you mentioned, through Humans learning to tap deeper into their power, because I am convinced we are far more powerful than AI when we are in tune with our True Power. Not everybody may agree, but I believe what will set us apart from AI is that we are divine beings, we are connected to the Universe (or Universal Power if you wish) while AI is not, it is not "organic", it is well, artificial.... That's my take on it, and that's how I sleep at night 😅 lol. Super interesting convo anyway, I like where you are going Kalyn, thank you for sharing x

The state if the enviroment definitely scares me as a 21 year old facing most of her life with the uncertainty all that brings. The disheartening things I've read is even if everyone went vegan and zero waste we wouldn't be able to stop climate change without getting the big international corporations to follow suit. Big names like big oil and gas companies, international fast food chains like mcdonalds need to change. even just getting starbucks to get rid of all disposable cups in every location would have a gigantic impact. Eliminating plastic from your life is a great step in helping the planet and spreading the message to thousands is even better. Writing to legislators and big companies would be even more beneficial. We need laws andchange on a big scale. Companies have been sponsoring and spreading media that tries to tell us it's our fault it's the consumers fault the climate is were it's at. It pretty much started w a coca cola ad that blamed consumers for littering and even coined the term "litterbug" when they switched from recycled glass bottles to plastic drawing all blame on enviromental impact away from coca cola to the consumers. I'm fearful really for the enviroment but with enough people backing up mother earth I think we might be able to make a difference. And as far as kids go I have always known I never wanted to be a mom for a million reasons. Having my own kid is not on my agenda and feeling guilty about bringing someone into this world knowing it might not be good or safe is one of them. But if I ever change my mind and crave becoming a mother I know adoption is how I would do it. Helping kids who were brought to this world by people who didn't want them. Raising a kid without bringing a new one into this world is a great way to get around that fear. I know becoming a mom is a personal journey and everyone has different visions of how they want it and adoption might not be for you and that's great it's just an option. PI agree with your friend that the people like you who take the time to think about it are the people we want raising the next generation. You'd make a wonderful mom :)
