Your Dime is a lemon. Never had any issues with the scissors. Also package opener on my tool is sharp enough to cut everything easy. The tweezers are pretty bad. Really bad. I like the pliers too, for their size.

I've got the black version and I personally LOVE it. I wear it around my neck. Nick your a good reviewer unfortunately I also think you got a lemon every problem you had mine works perfectly. Considering it's from Gerber it's extremely good quality (you have to remember it's a light work tool) you have to use the nail nick as far as possible from the hinge or you will rip your nails off if you are mindful to use the nick away from the hinge no problem at all. I really like your reviews Nick but I don't think you get double the tool from Leatherman I honestly think you get less this time I think this tool is worth a second opinion.

Been using mine for about two years now and it's still great. I actually like having the bottle cap opener on the outside so I don't have to go searching for it when I'm having a couple beers. Mostly bought it for the pliers which are good, and the clamshell opener works fantastic on mine. No comment on the knife as I always carry a dedicated knife on me. Maybe you got a lemon.

Nick I agree with you 98% of the time. On the Dime I must disagree. I have both the Squirt ps4 and the Dime. I agree that the Squirt is a better micro multi tool but only slightly. The individual tools on the Dime are not difficult to deploy. The clam shell cutter is a great tool that I use daily. I've been a long time Leatherman user since the original PST but me thinks their pricing is becoming too expensive. Kinda like Benchmade but not as high quality.

Great little review. In my view Gerber have aimed this to people like me who do a lot of travelling and travelling and don't want too loose a fortune when it gets confiscated. Indeed they do a version of the dime without the knife. In that context, I really like having the bottle opener up front and center. Which is what this really is. Not a multitool but a bottle opener plus. A nice little addition to the travel bag.

I've had both the Gerber Dime and the Leatherman Squirt. I haven't had any problems with either. As for sharpness, most knives don't come really sharp or stay that way with a little use. Just sharpen your blades. Yes, they are not very sturdy, but they fulfill the need when you don't have your leatherman surge or wave. I didn't find mine to be terribly made. Overall, it's a great little $15 tool.

My experience with the Dime is primarily don’t try to open a bubble pack with the blade.i tried to do that at the weakest points on the packaging and the blade bent back through its “stop pin” to the point where it almost touched the other side

the Gerber dime is an awesome multitool and is really useful and the bottle opener has never got in the way of my keys and it is really handy to have it on the outside of the multitool

Nick, I usually respect your views, but this is a pretty good tool. I use mine all the time. I have a full size leatherman for most chores. I like the dime for Sunday use, or when I can’t carry ALL of my EDC stuff. Thanks though.

I found one of these in Canada at mega discount for $7, so I bought it for kikx and to compare with my P4...that's about all I can add, you totally nailed it on every point.

Got one recently and all the blades are pretty sharp. Not sure if quality has improved over the years or if you got a bad unit

The Gerber Dime is awesome. Not sure the complaint with the bottle opener but I actually found it handy because I can just reach in pocket one handed without fumbling to open. The plier works great for the occasional pulling and installing a car fuse or as a reach tool between crevices. I never had any issues with the box opener when opening amazon boxes and boxes process at work. Definitely beats forcing my car key to slice packing tape. The tweezer is actually a nice accessory for handling some fine materials without actually using my fingers to touch the object. I'm also not understanding the complaint with the blade when most of the time it is used to cut some nasty cord like undoing a mangled up tie down or cutting up the hairs caught up in the vacuum brush. For 15 dollars retail, I don't feel so over protective abusing or losing this tool.

Designed for very light work, and not for any serious grunt work. Within its limitations, it's a very useful tool.

How much Letherman pays you? I recently look at both and got Gerber. I do not know about big tools but small Lethermann should be sold in Dollarama.

I remember buying this at Sports Authority maybe a decade ago. I ended up returning it after coming across all of the same issues being talked about here. They even let me open a few more at the store just to confirm QC consistency (or lack thereof), and I didn’t find one that was decently made. No surprise there. I would though love to see Victorinox attempt a little micro-style multi-tool like this with their outstanding quality. I’m sure it would be a big seller.

I found that really interesting. I've been carrying one for about 7 years and have no complaints except for the useless file. I actually bought it for the bottle opener because I was tired of losing knives because of those silly little split rings straightening out. The opener makes a really strong lanyard and the shape doesn't allow it to dig into your palm when using the pliers. Mine has served me well for the little things you do with a small tool.

I have one identical to the one shown. He must of got a dull blade or can't feel the sharpness of the blade. I can shave with mine fresh out of the package. My tweezers can pluck hair and the wire cutters work very well. As long as use then for what they was made for. Try it you might like it.

So you don't like it i'm guessing, Just say you prefer leatherman and save everyone the 8 minutes of you just slagging this great tool off. Either you got a dud or you're just hating for the sake of hating. This isn't a review at all

The Dimes I've bought have been pretty decent. I've only had one issue with the package opener where it bent on a particularly tough clamshell. But, it's only $15. I'd prefer to get 2 dimes for 1 Leatherman. And I own 4 squirts.

In comparison with Leatherman and Victorinox keychain tools this thing absolutely is badly made, and that includes QC and consistency. In my experience there is a lot of variation in fit and finish between different copies. Judging by some of the comments underneath this review, the same can be said of its owners.

Have had this for about four years, in black though, blades came sharp and are still sharp, i use the bottle opener as a key attachment, it is quite useful I keep it on my car key and use it quite often. I think your review is a bit harsh and shows a bit too much bias.

I like my dime but I agree with a lot of your points. It's a terrific little tool to carry for small things, but the blade steel is really bad and the drivers are just a little too short. As much as I love this tool I've found that it just doesn't spend much time in my pocket anymore.

They sell it for $20 and the blade is freaky sharp!

I've carried the Dime for about two years now daily. It's beat to hell from constant use and a lot of abuse. The scissors were shit from day one... They're tucked into a tiny little knife and that's fine. The tweezers, a lot of little tiny metal splinters pulled out with them. They are amazing. Maybe I just lucked out with a good pair. I don't know. The pliers are useful....a bit. If you crank on them you'll bend the whole closing system out of whack. The file is completely pointless. The steel used in the "screwdrivers" is soft, Like mild steel 1015, and will round off the moment you try to turn out a stuck screw. The knife is fine, it works. After all of this, after how awful it is....I still love this little multitool. Go Figure.

I have both tools, My dime came really sharp and the pliers are actually pretty cool. the lethermen are better though.

The package opener on my dime works great, I use it all the time, it cuts right through plastic no problem.

They also have from my experience excellent customer service. After almost a year the spring bar on mine broke and all I had to do was submit a claim on their website, which includes a description and picture. And now they're shipping a new one. If it never arrives or something odd happens I'll come back and amend my comment.

I hate the Dime, too. The only reason I haven't tossed it is because I actually like the package opener. I find that works pretty well. Everything else is a fail. Plus, I got the black version and the paint started coming off the first time I opened up the pliers.

The bottle opener is great and honestly that is my favorite tool on Dime :D Besides this is the same design idea as on Letherman Style (bottle opener on Style is a crap). So on Leatherman is fine for you but on Gerber Dime is a mistake. Second thing: If you realy don't want it you can cut if off with a rotary multi tool in less then a minute. No big deal for me.

I'm getting this instead of the squirt. I don't know why but I get to be asked for a pair of scissors a lot of times. I don't know why but I saw a lot of broken scissors on PS4 reviews.

I bought both Gerber Dime n Leatherman Squirt PS4. the Gerber Dime broke twice. I never even use it. anyway I was a fan of Gerber. now looking at Leatherman product.

I like mine. I like that the bottle opener is fixed on the outside. Much more convenient that way, plus it works as a lever when you open the pliers. The package opener is just great. It's my favorite tool on the Dime. Nor the package opener or the knife blade came super sharp, but it took me less than five minutes to make them really sharp. I agree with Mr. Shabazz that the quality isn't exactly premium. It really is a cheap POS. But it works for me. To each their own, I suppose.

Shouldve watch this review before buying it. You are correct. All the tools are pain to open. Had to destroy my nails to open them. Blade not sharp at all even after sharping. Scissors can barely cut through anything. Had the Leatherman style cs, way better

Not that the dime isn't good...it's just that the leatherman is better honestly

I must say, my experience with the dime has been much more positive. It has two functional screw drivers, decent little set of pliers, my scissors easily cut through cloth, so idk on that one, and the dull knife and package opener are easily sharpened. I personally think its pretty solid, I give it 7 out of ten.

Hi Nick, bought this thing because of its look, the blade and the package opener. But here in Germany you had to pay around 30€...!!! With the first light and careful use of the pliers the spring broke...:-( I'm also with you in your Otter critical points. Cold be my review:-) Get yourselves a Leatherman or a Vic, as I did! Thanks a lot for the review, Nick! I bought two Dimes for $10 each on Cyber Monday. They arrived and seemed okay, albeit difficult to open. Then I saw this review. I have a good friend who trusts you. So I took your review to heart, returned the Dimes, and got a Squirt PS4 instead. Wow! The difference in quality is amazing. The Squirt is clearly built much, much better. Sure, it cost more than the two Dimes together, but it is definitely worth it!

The alignment on the tweezers is nearly as bad as your camera alignment

Probably the only Gerber tool that beats Leatherman (well, The Squirt is now made of aluminum so game over before the match even started)

I have an old Gerber clutch which is likely the predecessor to the dime. As poor as the clutch is, it's still better than the dime. I wish Leatherman still made the slightly larger juice. I would buy it tonight. The squirt is nice but I would like it slightly larger.

i just got a Gerber Dime, and most of the stuff your complaining about I find it just isn't true. I think its good, and for %15-$20 what can you really expect.

Disagree. I have both the regular black Dime and the bladeless Dime Travel and both have served me well. My only complaint with them compared to the Leatherman Squirts is that the file on the regular Dime sucks. The travel version has an actual file that is comparable to the Squirt. I wish they put that file in place of the package opener blade on the regular Dime.

The problem in running into is the Leatherman squirt is $100 on amazon 😐

For 15 bucks, who expects to get a good multi-tool?

The bottle opener on the Leatherman PS4 sucks. It doesn't bite well under the bottle cap, and even when it does, it just ends up tearing the skirt of the cap while still failing to open the bottle. The Gerber Dime, the Victorinox Rambler/Manager/Minichamp or even the Leatherman Micra does the job much better.

I have both Leatherman squirt ps4 and Gerber dime. To be honest the dime is ok but the squirt ps4 is a much better multi tool.

I just purchases the Dime because of the pliers and scissors. I don’t really need it as a day to day just in an emergency. Let’s see what happens

So I just got to handle two of these last night at a buddy's place (yeah I'm really late to this party). One was in this color schene and the other was blacked out. Considering the blacked out option is far newer than the red/black/silver color way, I think it's a good representation of the whole lifetime of the product. I generally don't have an issue with nail nicks, the dimes were a bitch to use. The build quality of both examples was terrible. It's really sad as the design had some potential. Even for 15 bucks, I'd agree to look elsewhere. Edit - I should point out that I think the two dimes I handled were either made in two different factories or there was a retooling of the line before the blacked out on was made. I say this because the texture of the "files" were of different patterns and abrasiveness. However there was not any improvement with the change. Neither would qualify as an adequate tool for any job.

My dime fell into a storm drain fished out with a magnet 4 days later. All the tools work everything was sharp. Key ring was only weakness.

I find the gerber dime to be bulky, and needless to say the annoying bottle opener make it even bulkier. That being said, it does it's job, but the quality and elegance isn't no where near that of the Leatherman PS4. They are both good & portable and serve great as backup tool or edc. Own both, and you wont go wrong. If you have only one option, go for the Leatherman PS4.

I rarely ever leave video comments on videos, however, the amount of negativity that surrounds this tool in this video is over the top and in my opinion quite unwarranted. I work landscaping and I personally find this tool to be extremely useful. Sure, there are better tools out there, but at the end of the day the dime is 15 bucks and my experiences with it has definitely lead me to the conclusion that it's definitely worth it. This review is simply critical of a tool that you Nick did not test (besides the scissors).

It made me laugh when you were groaning to open it. Come on big man, it does not take that much effort. I just bought one and it is surprisingly preciously made for the size and price. Maybe they improved it over your 2016 version.

I don't understand why anyone into knives would complain about it being dull when you buy it. Like, you're a knife guy...just sharpen it? You're gonna have to sharpen any knife at some point, it being a little dull from the factory is no big deal

It might cost twice as much but your fellow United States residents here in Portland Oregon can earn a decent wage when you buy USA made items!

I am in 💯% agreement‼️ This was by far THEE worst “multi-tool” I eva wasted money on! I tried to loosen a 5/16” nut and the handle folded like an old lawn chair. BUYER BEWARE!!!! Danger, danger Will Robinson! It was a piece of 💩This was over 5 years ago and I get mad all over again thinking about it. You could not give me another one of these.😡🤬

@ 6:57 he said this thing was Spyderco byrd levels of no. Immediate unsub, because my Cara Cara takes extreme offense to that (JK, but honestly my first and only Spyderco is a byrd and is my favorite knife so far! does anyone else think the byrd line of knives is terrible?)

I should have seen your review before I bought Dime and Leatherman Style PS. The knife and package opener are nice features. The pliers are relatively comfortable to use whereas the handle in Style PS tries to prick a hole into your palm. Also the bottle opener in Dime works as an extra leverage as SaoDavi mentioned where as the bottle opener / carabiner in Style PS makes it slip out of your hand. Verdict: I'm afraid I should have bought Squirt PS 4 instead.

A very biased reviewer, the Dime is not that Bad, the implements are not that stiff to open up, and I can say it is a very good key chain tool.No thanks for clearly a very biased review.
