For me this types of sad ghosts that seem to be "recorded" on the place they lived, just repeating the same ritual over and over are the most fascinating and haunting ones. Solid 5/5 ghost story ✌

This is also why ghosts walk through walls, they're walking through floorplans and paths that no longer exist

Never understand why you'd build a bridge like that without a pedestrian walkway in the first place. The amount of material and effort involved is trivial compared to the project as a whole, and there are going to be times when railroad employees and officials would benefit as well as the locals - notably inspections and repair work.
@doucettealexander98
@doucettealexander98 Жыл бұрын
My guess would be they don't do it for fear of pedestrians using the bridge and straying onto the line and because if track maintainers or inspectors are walking along it they have permission to do so and train traffic across is halted. They do exist though. There are railroad bridges designed with handrails and walkways for crews where they have to get out and walk for whatever reason and if I recall correctly on the Brooklyn Bridge Pedestrians and subway trains share the lower deck (but are separated of course)
@misterflibble6601
@misterflibble6601 Жыл бұрын
Maybe because it's for trains, not pedestrians? And I'm sure inspectors and workers would inform dispatchers and know for sure when the bridge would be clear of any potential traffic, local pedestrians not so much. And probably not necessary to point out any unauthorized persons using the bridge are technically trespassing on the railroads right-of-way, not necessarily something you want to encourage because of the liability issues bound to crop up
@silmarian
@silmarian Жыл бұрын
@@misterflibble6601 There have been a number of accidents where rail employees have been killed despite "notifying dispatch" and placing blue flags. Even a derailer won't necessarily save a rail crew, sometimes the derailer gets crushed or knocked off the track instead of the train. When I was in training, they really hammered home how there's no substitute for being aware of your surroundings and able to get out of the way in an emergency. Not having a walkway on a bridge, or at least a place where authorized people can get out of the way of an unexpected train, is just asking for incidents.
@richmcgee434
@richmcgee434 Жыл бұрын
@@silmarian That was my thinking as well. Even if a walkway is frequently going to be unsafe or wholly unusable due to inclement weather or some other factor, having it there for when it is accessible is better than not. The railway bridge isn't losing any functionality by adding the option, and if anything it increases safety since (unless you station armed guards 24/7) people are going to try to cross on foot now and then.

I have been on this bridgework and I could have sworn when I crossed it that I saw this very ghost! I live in Minnesota and I love railway history. When I heard about this bridge 10 years ago, I had to see it for myself. When I ascended the bridge embankment, I stood atop the bridge and look across. Slowly I moved my way across the structure and then I saw a bright, blueish green light swinging back and forth across the width of the tracks. I called out to see who was there and suddenly the light stopped swinging and then vanished. Needless to say I backed away as quickly as possible.

I wonder if he is going to cover the train station in Sydney, Australia that is haunted by ghost, as it was built apparently on top, or next to a gravesite. Ok I have edited this bit to clarify what I said , and this is very much common knowledge for a Sydney sider ( it’s very well known ), central station had part of its train tunnel complex built either through or underneath a cemetery , the bodies were reburied from the location but the abandoned tunnels are haunted with sounds so children playing in the tunnel and people being tapped on the shoulder but with nobody else in there. Mind you , it’s another only in Australia moment. What’s worse is that it might become part of the new metro system being installed at this very moment!

Out of interest what's the highest that a person can drop into water (say feet first) and reasonably hope to survive?
@richmcgee434
@richmcgee434 Жыл бұрын
Easy to look that up online, including a rather in-depth study made by the FAA in 1965 examining the kinds of injuries survived when a long fall is survived. They have some interesting (albeit terribly dated) observations that (like automobile accidents) drunk, stoned, or "schizophrenic" individuals seem to suffer fewer deaths and sever injuries, although they declined to suggest why and cautioned that the data may be unreliable. The common "relaxed muscles" thing seems implausible since virtually everyone agrees that for dives over 30 feet you want to hold yourself as rigid as possible and go in feet-first to minimize the deceleration. Most modern data shows that somewhere around a 186 foot drop is pretty consistently fatal. The World High Diving Assaciation advises no one attempt dives of more than about 65 feet due to risk of injury, but there are also thousands of recorded cases of cliff divers making 80-100 foot dives without serious harm. The current world record holder (since 2015) cliff-dived 192 feet, there are vids of it on youtube. Note that all of these numbers rely on the water being deep enough that you don't hit the bottom while still decelerating. That record holder was going around 75mph when he hit, and since you can only survive that sort of thing by minimizing the gees you're experiencing it takes a fair distance to stop - and then you have to resurface before you drown.

@richmcgee434
@richmcgee434 Жыл бұрын
@@johndavies1090 Yeah, at 220 feet the GG Bridge is just beyond the world record, and well beyond the "likely fatal" threshold. I notice most researchers are really hesitant about saying anything is 100% going to be fatal. There's always the tiny chance of some bizarre fluke like Vesna Vulovoc's falling over six miles and living through it thanks to timely S&R efforts (and possibly unusually low blood pressure), or Alan Magee, who survived falling 22,000 feet and crashing through the roof of the St. Nazaire train station in WW2. Not that jumping of the Golden Gate is advisable, but if you're counting on dying Murphy's Law suggests you'll be that one guy who catches a freak updraft at just the right moment and splashes down next a harbor patrol boat who just happens to have a rescue diver who's ready to go.

“Bad idea to walk along railroad tracks” what kind of nanny state crap is that? What?..you think the train is going to sneak up on them? Unless you are def or are jamming on the air pods you ain’t got no business getting hit by a train on solid ground whilst walking down the tracks. Also in regards to the bridge…just add like two or three evenly space outcropping platforms for people to stand on while the train crosses. It wouldn’t be that expensive. This is an open and shut case of unwillingness to solve the problem with anything more that stubborn unwillingness to fix the situation or at best the people in charge are just R E T A R D E D. At least people can hang off the railing while the train passes I guess. But a couple little waiting platforms would have been way more effective.
