The NHL always fascinates me, if only for the incredible skill and talent that's on display every night. Even if the league itself is in a massive identity crisis, the Eastern Conference has everything you could ask for: Great teams oozing with talent, groups eager to assert themselves, and those that are choosing to punt the year away for a lottery ticket. Connor Bedard and Matvei Michkov, among others, are ripe for the picking in this year's draft.
All of this and more is for your watching in this video. The Western Conference will be out shortly.

100% agreed. And what a way to do it compared to the 90’s and 00’s when Hasek and Miller had to stand on their heads, being outshot 40-15, and squeaking by 2-1 seemingly every game. I love seeing a Sabres team win with a high powered forecheck

Chemistry was going to need time to reform this season, especially for Trocheck who even admitted that he needed time to adjust. Let’s also not forget that after making it to a conference final with a majority of players who were playoff virgins leaves an emotional void during the next regular season that’s particularly obvious versus non-playoff teams. This is why Gallant never seemed particularly concerned in interviews. That chemistry just takes time.

Considering Frederik Andersen just got injured again (vs. Dallas, Jan. 25th), maybe the Canes signing Koochie to an extension wasn't as bad of an idea as it seemed. I do admit it's a big gamble on someone without majors experience, but he is rock solid in the creases and I'd bet the front office is thinking they could be looking at a potential next big franchise goalie. Fingers crossed we don't have to shut down Pacioretty for the season, though, because he looked like he was going to take off like a rocket.

I am a little disappointed in the lack of progress from the Wings, but I still trust the Yzerplan. I'm not really too fussed that the goaltending hasn't worked out, he took a (fairly cheap) chance on two guys who could be absolute studs if everything goes right. It didn't, or at least hasn't, but it's not the end of the world. With some very high end prospects on the way, and with Stevie's drafting acumen and his ability to find diamonds in the rough, I'm still confident. I'll take the way I feel about this year, where we're at, and where we're trending over ANY of the later Ken Holland years.

I've been dying for another hockey video just to see what your take on my Sabres would be, and I wasn't disappointed. I'd hoped they'd make a push for a playoff spot, and while it's been nice to see it actually happen, that disastrous 8 game losing streak last November hurts even more now. Now, to your other points about Power and UPL. Power is gonna be something great. He gains confidence with each and every game. He's already a great skater and puck handler, at least in the offensive zone. Still too nonchalant in his own zone, though, not unlike Dahlers was in his first two seasons or so. There's not quite as much of a hurry for him to develop as you suggest though, Tree. This team is doing its best to push for the post season but neither the coaching staff or management team is in a hurry to get ahead of schedule. Patience from Donnie Meatballs and Adams is what's finally helped this team get over the hump and start to be respectable again. Power's only a small part of the defensive issues, though. Our top pairing is set in stone for a long time, now. I love Dahlers and Sammy. Dahlers is a beast offensively and the both of them are lights out in their own end. Power will get there but he needs a more dependable partner. It saddens me that Joker has fallen off so hard. The third pairing is almost a void, though Boosh's play has been cleaner and a bit more involved lately. I'm really hoping that Adams gets weird at the deadline and goes after Gostisbehere or Chychrun to help shore up the bottom six. The forwards (excepting the 4th line, Jost, Cozey and Tuch) also need to play better defense in general. The forwards are always waiting for a breakout pass, and for good reason with this team's speed and skill, but it causes them to overskate, make bad passes and generally fail to support in the defensive zone, leading to opposing offenses getting the run of our entire slot area. UPL is a bit different, though. I'd hoped he'd break into the roster this year and he's exceeded my wildest expectations. He's exciting to watch and he's hungry as hell. His numbers aren't great due to the aforementioned poor D but the team has really rallied around this kid. I really hope he's the future but goalie development is always a crapshoot so I'll just let that play out as it will. Even if we don't make it this year, the Sabres are finally gonna be a problem for the NHL and I couldn't be happier as a lifelong Sabres fan.

For the Sabres they're also the youngest team so the future is hopefully bright haha. UPL (UkkoPekka Lukkokenen) has gotten more confident every game it feels like and have had injuries with Comrie so we don't know really what we have in him yet. Feels like every year with the Sabres there would be bright spots that would quickly get snuffed out, but this team feels so much different!

Maurice is a good coach when he is in charge of a team with low expectations. His stint with Winnipeg speaks volumes. Helped them overachieve and went on a deep playoff run just to turn them into an average team when things were expected of them.

It made absolutely no sense to fire Brunette and hire Maurice. The Panthers finally had a coach that brought the best out of players and he gets canned for a guy who couldn’t get Winnipeg over the hump.

Said this on another video: it's funny how the Devils' record is so much better in January than in December, but you could argue their actual level of play was *better* in December and they just weren't getting a lot of puck luck. This month they've had some issues with their depth on offense and defense, but their top guys like Hughes, Hamilton, and even Vanecek in net are keeping them strong. They're still the youngest team in the league, so I think this week-plus break for them is coming at a very good time, hoping to see Marino back on the blue line soon and maybe a Timo Meier trade(?); those two would potentially make them a playoff favorite.

Speaking of Hockey (NY Rangers are part of the Eastern Conference), MSG might lose its liquor license because of its facial recognition tech to kick out lawyers who go against Dolan. Dolan now has decided to ditch its $12 drinks at the Garden and has urged his customers to harass the CEO of the NYS liquor board in response to the NYS's threat of revoking the MSG's Liquor License. You just cannot make this stuff up! I just learned this from today's (1/27/2023) NY Post Newspaper's front page.

I’m not worried about the Red Wings. Bert’s just had some of the worst luck with injuries this season & no one could have seen Varna’s troubles that hopefully he’s work through. Larkin’s not going anywhere and they get some assets by selling at the deadline. The kids are performing well despite it all and they’re the future of the team. Continue to trust the Yzerplan, people

Legacy of failure is for franchises that have never won titles. The Cardinals have won two NFL championships, in 1925 and 1947.

@@sastryvnk4402 No, the Leafs got one too, you have to have a half century. Also, the Cardinals only have one, they just decided several years after 1925 to claim that one because they had fuckall else to boast about.

@sastryvnk4402 Жыл бұрын
@@TheShinyFeraligatr The NFL hasn't taken away the title, so it counts. Also, I think Tree made an exception for the Leafs because they haven't won since 1967. Either that or he just wanted to have an excuse to rub salt on the Leafs.
@nintendo8127

@Mike Manza fair. The fact that I am alive for the Cardinals greatest moment in team history outside of the 1947 speaks to the failure. And the worst part? At least with the Lions, people sympathize with them. And even if the Cards went the next few seasons winning every game and the Lions going winless every game, we still would have more losses than them.

The thing really going for Montreal is that you *can* build a team around Suzuki and Caufield. The two of them together are scary effective and Suzuki alone is top tier material. What we really need is a good defense, and especially an experience quarterback of sorts. Someone who can replace Weber as a solidifying presence who keeps the defense game tight in tough situations, especially since our goaltender situation is difficult with no real heir to Carey Price. Unless we snatch a proper goaltender from somewhere in the league, we've got a couple of years to go before the young ones have gained enough experience.
