What did you think of The Haunting of Ashburn House? 👻

You really went deep with the prose. 😂 I loved this book, it was wholesome horror, that creepy cozy feel that I like, though I wouldn't say she's a literary writer. Carrow Haunt was godawful, it suffers from lack of editing in a way that will make your skin peel. But I love her Black Winter Series.

You have a way of making peeling skin sound positive 🤣 i know the cozy feeling you mean, especially with the cat 😸 it just wasn't for me.

@@ABFrank. Carrow Haunt is like a scooby doo episode, it was insane. 😂

From a critical standpoint, I understand how the errors in continuity could be a deal breaker for you, but I found the story advances very well in the end half of the book and I’m glad I stuck it out. My first impression of her work was after reading From Below, which I absolutely adored. I just picked up the first 2 novels of her black winter series, which I’m slightly less enthused about diving into after hearing this review. This is first of your videos I stumbled on and will be sure to subscribe for more recommendations. Cheers

I can also see why people like her books. If I hear she's writing (or has written) anything Victorian I will give her another go. Thanks for the support, I hope you find something you like from my recommendations 👍

It always surprises me when my book pops up in a video. 😂 great review on the Darcy Coates. Too bad about those inconsistencies and whatnot. I have some of her ebooks but might pass on them. Man, so great seeing that Blockbuster card! Cheers my man!

Haha it must feel cool. I really wanted to enjoy the Darcy Coates book, but not every book is going to be a hit. The Blockbuster card is great 💳

Doh! The continuity! I get the impression that her work is an easy read. Out of the 4 books by Coates that I have, I will probably read Hunted or Dead Lake 1st since they are stand alones vs. House of Shadows/Secrets.

It is an easy read, mercifully! It'll be interesting to hear your thoughts if you do a video

I didn't care for Mexican Gothic either. I have a few Darcy Coates' books, but I haven't cracked them yet. Sounds like she needed a better editor. "Putting the kettle on" Lol! Love your accent.

I had an awful reading month for November, I’m debating even doing a wrap up. The one full book I invested in ended up being a DNF. So disappointing when that happens.

I feel you! I've had a couple of misses recently as well. I’ve been getting into short stories this year, and I've found them useful for getting some momentum back. You'll get to something you like soon 🙂

Certainly sounds like Ms Coates has an issue with editing and continuity in her novels- I've heard this sort of thing from others as well. She's banged out a bunch of novels in a very short period of time. It would probably have been worth it to write one well written novel rather than a bunch of mediocre ones. But that's just my opinion.

Very well said! I really wanted to like it as well, but I couldn't take it seriously after a while.
