I predict some will get mad at me for saying this but sometimes Dr K just seems to come up with explanations or solutions to things instead of having real knowledge. If you can speak in a certain way and make the thing seem plausible enough, people will buy your explanations. If you go to almost any psychology department to talk with the scientists about the issues of self-awareness, you'll get quite likely as many explanations or views as there are people working there. These are vague issues still unsettled in the science and I wish people were a little bit more skeptical when someone (even a professional) gives definitive answers as if the answer was obvious. As a professional myself there are many times I would have an issue with what Dr K is saying, but he is usually in a position of authority. It's easier to convince an audience of laypeople than to pursue a career where you have to convince those who are your peers.
@maddscientist82
@maddscientist82 Ай бұрын
@@Minisynapse You're not wrong but I think since he's primarily speaking to a large audience, he's gonna generalize a bit. He is (was?) a practicing psychologist. He's done live streams where he is talking to streamers/youtubers and is very different in his responses and nuanced.

You are not hypersensitive by default. There is a reason you are hypersensitive to something, anything. If we take your example, 'a parent who tells you that you do not care enough' Our parents can be wise teachers, and they can sometimes be wrong. Or they can sometimes be repetitive or hurtful even when telling the truth. Sit and rest on these thoughts. Breath and focus on your hypersensitivity, let your emotions wash over you and accept the situation for what it is, your life, your parents, their judgements of you, your so called not caring enough, now back to the breath, breath in, breath out, and notice that life is okay, that no matter what happens in life you have can breathe and find peace in your self.

Really loved this segment. In particular the section on breath was phenomenal and I've realized I've unknowingly applied it many times in my life since becoming a parent and it's really cool to know and be aware of.

I love dr K - he taught me so much psychology I can teach a college intro class in it And the Chris and his teams’s production value is wild, next level. The aspect ratio makes it feel intimate and cinematic. Good choices all around

Lovely set Chris…. This sort of look is perfect for you…. A long time ago my father and I did the first podcast with Paul Davies called ‘The Big Questions’ … but the were shot in the Australian outback… we were years ahead.

I have no problem sitting and thinking for hours but I think it is a bit of a detriment because often I slide into that mode when I really should be DOING. This is kind of my Achilles heel. I often hear your voice in my head, Chris, saying, "DO the thing." I'm working on it. ❤

Any guilt and regrets I feel when I consider my life's choices, I try to remind myself that the feelings of guilt and regret themselves are reminders of why I'll never make those choices again. As long as I use the guilt and regret in that regard and not allow myself to wallow in it (to my own detriment), then I'm still moving forward. And for every negative thought I have about myself, I try to remember some positive ones as well.

Neat, I grew up on a farm where, some seasons, I would drive a tractor for hours at a time I would often sit with my own thoughts rather than listen to the radio. I've always liked being with myself to this day and have generally felt pretty centered. I was reminded of this throughout this video then it was fully spelled out at 16:00 😀 I can vouch for that!
