@@johnkim270 an atmosphere (atm) is a unit of measurement referring to the amount of pressure exerted in a specific area, with 1atm being the average at Earth's sea level. Space has no atmosphere, or very close to it, while pressures at 5,000M down being 500x as strong as at sea level. The spaceship was doomed haha.

Intresting fact about Zapp, The character was originally written with Phil Hartman in mind. However after his death they gave the role to Billy West where he did an impression of Phil Hartman. Also they named Fry Phillip in memory of him.

According to Matt Groening he's actually named after Homer Philip Groening, Matt's father. But West's Branningan voice is definitely a tribute to the late, great Phil Hartman.

The Futurama cast commentary tracks are an absolute joyful experience. West and DiMaggio constantly trying to crack each other up while Cohen and Groening despair in the background is as good as the show itself.

I think Scruffy is interesting because apparently he speaks and indeed moves so slowly that the writers have to be really careful using him as he takes so much more time out of an episode than his brief appearances would normally warrant. This required them to really use him sparingly and to good effect so he has some of the best lines as so many of his less good jokes got cut.

General Iroh's was a fucking amazing voice, it's a shame the guy died before the show finished but the replacment did an equally great job for the character

That was Mako. He also did Aku in Samurai Jack, and in both cases he was replaced by Greg Baldwin. You can see Mako in the flesh in Conan the Barbarian. I was moved by the story of how his side story in Season 2 of Avatar was about the last thing he did. From his sick bed, even. The song he sang was made by Mako himself. In all three roles, he sounded much the same (aside from Aku's maniacal laughter), so I suppose it was close to his natural voice. So that in itself didn't make it impossible to replace him, though clearly you could tell.

The best part about the owls is they actually made a whole backstory for why they are the vermin of record in New New York. They were mass introduced to deal with the infestations of rats and pigeons. They over populated, and became what they were in series.

It still astounds me how densely packed the lore of futurama is. Nearly every character big or small has a history and story to tell and they explain nearly everything about how the world works. Its brilliant in a terrifyingly mad way.

The English dub of the anime "Ghost Stories" They got unprecedented latitude on interpretation and came up with a completely different take on the series.

@SG Hub The anime "Ghost Stories" was an abysmal flop in Japan, and nobody expected it to do anything at all in foreign markets. I don't know why they bothered to get an English dub of it, I think a pre-existing contract was involved, but the studio essentially told the English voice actors to do literally whatever they wanted with it. The story didn't matter, they didn't have to stick to translations, they were free to just ad-lib anything they wanted. The entire thing is hilarious and crass. You can find it on KZfaq.

There is also a problem with a voice actor, using their own natural voice. As you said, it's almost irreplaceable. So in the massively unfortunate event, that they are no longer well enough, or alive to work. Who do you get to replace them? Because as we've said, they're almost irreplaceable.
