Missionary Bush Pilot. This brings back so many memories, good and bad. I used to operate from the hanger that have the PAC750s in front. At that time I was flying Cessna 206s. They had steam gauges and we used paper maps. Marawaka, and other places you have flown to, were regular stops. Going through the cloud made my stomach turn, because we didn't have the nav equipment (no GPS) and going through cloud was suicide! We considered that the clouds were stuffed with rocks! Finding holes to go up or down was common. Finding coffee to help pay for the return flight was routine as well!

You have me wondering why they don't use a check valve from each fuel tank to prevent the problem you have mentioned in several of your videos? I realize that would give another point of failure, but it could also be equipped with a bypass if it bacame a problem at some point.

Because we actually file all our flights on an IFR flight plan. We can go up there at anytime, but it's easier to stay down in the valleys, assuring you can get to where you want.

Because of the hills... I understand not coming down through the clouds.... but why would you have to climb out of the strip through a hole? I would think that is IFR capable.
@MissionaryBushPilot
@MissionaryBushPilot Жыл бұрын
yes the plane is IFR capable, but, say if I go on top of the clouds, there is no guarantee I can get back down into the valleys to get to the bush airstrip I need to, so it's easier to just stay down in the valleys.

When holding aileron for slide slope is it better to hold allot as to allow bleeding it off or is it better to just hold a smidge and just increase as you perceive it? I'm thinking: big side slope big hold vs slight side slope small hold sounds correct?
@MissionaryBushPilot
@MissionaryBushPilot Жыл бұрын
on a side slope I hold it full aileron into the hill, then as your airspeed increases and the runway flattens out, I take out the correction.
@anthonyrstrawbridge
@anthonyrstrawbridge Жыл бұрын
@@MissionaryBushPilot Ahh yes, I think I remember now. Holding full aileron is best because the down slope wing will then generate lift sooner and as I feel it come up I can adjust the rate of lift by raising the down slope aileron and lowering the other. When I consider crosswind holds with a sloped runway and rising terrain potentially on either side of the sloped runway .....things get really exciting. I've never truly experienced significantly sloping runways but it actually is fairly intuitive. Very fun stuff.

Captain thank you .Captain I have a question for you. I heard that flying today's big planes is very easy and comfortable due to technological advances. I mean all the stages of flight from takeoff to cruise and landing. Is this true?
@robertmcmurry3509
@robertmcmurry3509 Жыл бұрын
While the technology works, yes, it is very easy because of all the information available. When the technology breaks, you still need to be able to aviate, navigate, and communicate the old fashioned way.
@MissionaryBushPilot
@MissionaryBushPilot Жыл бұрын
yes, flying in PNG with the technologies that we have make it not only easier but safer. What Robert said below is also true. Just having the technology available, doesn't make you a wise pilot. You still need to learn to make wise decisions and learn how to navigate in a unforgiving environment such as PNG
