Far From Home. It was fun and once it became the Mysterio show, it was a real treat. However, the movie featured a plot device that was so dumb, it made a lot of the film difficult to take seriously. So what if that plot device was replaced with something that was not only easier to understand but meant more to the characters and the audience?

I feel like movies and comics have warped people's POV on what a "threat" is, like say "what if a real threat like," and then listing 2 worlds ending threats. There is a lot of space between a mugger and someone who can end all life on a planet! Also, people keep saying Mysterio doesn't have any actual powers in a way that implies him to be harmless when he is neither. Mysterio has powers just like Tony Stark has powers, via a genius intellect and technology. Mysterio simply has a more indirect style than Tony, using clever planning, drones, and holograms to do the bulk of his work.
@tobiassanders3831
@tobiassanders3831 4 жыл бұрын
I honestly really like the spin that they put on Mysterio. From my understanding, the traditional character was about using magic and illusions to do his stuff, but in the MCU one, he's using advanced technology instead of magic (or "magic") and his illusions take on a new meaning. When he returns (which he will) the whole drone-thing still poses a threat, even if it isn't real. And instead of trying to fool the world, he can focus them in on trying to isolate and confuse the people he is fighting, whoever that is. They did well with Mysterio.
@RelativelyBest
@RelativelyBest 3 жыл бұрын
@@tobiassanders3831 Actually, comic Mysterio did pretty much the same thing: He's a non-powered special effects guy turned super criminal who mainly used technology to create illusions. I'm pretty sure he was widely know for doing this as well - like, nobody seriously thought he had magic powers after his first few appearances. He was just very dramatic about it and the whole wizard thing was part of his image. (I mean, I dunno, it's possible he became an actual wizard at some point. That does seem like something Marvel might have thrown into the mix to shake things up.) Also, I'm not sure but I think pretending to be a superhero was also his original plan in his first appearance. So, the main difference is that the movie Mysterio had a team backing him up, while comic Mysterio _somehow_ got everything done himself.

Except that Tony Stark did more than just drones with holograms and guns. Way more. I mean, what? You're saying he would manage to hold his own against Thanos with EdiTH? At some point, his illusions were going to be easily debunked, he was lucky he got someone like Peter to put the blame on and come out as the hero.

Thanos' skin is bullet proof. The drones would do absolutely nothing to him. Stark has WAY more powerful missiles, and weapons of mass destruction that the drones. Better question is why he didn't send those down to hit Thanos.. But then again... Stark's suit arguably has far greater accuracy with equal power of most of his weaponry and no latency or delay. If Thor/Hulk/Iron Man all aren't doing jack to Thanos, his regularly old militia weapons aren't really on the top of his mind. The Iron man suit has his absolutely best tech and most lethal options available to him

You lost me with Peter giving away the Spider Man suit. I can see him giving away Edith. It's 's not attached to him he has no connection to it. But his suit? His problem was that he felt undeserving of the Tony Stark legacy,. Problem wasn't about being Spider-Man. He wanted to stay in the neighborhood because he didn't think he was big enough to face Global threats.
@patrickhare_
@patrickhare_ 4 жыл бұрын
He would still have his normal suit. He could say some thing about how Beck could use Stark's nanotech to do better things. It would be less of Peter telling Beck that he deserves to be spider-man and more of him being more fit to have the key to nanotechnology.
@darkdesigns
@darkdesigns 3 жыл бұрын
I do like the idea of Beck getting the suit, but I agree - it feels weird for Peter to give it to him. At least in that moment. If Peter thought that him having the suit actively put others at risk, however, (as opposed to it just being a crutch or thinking that Beck could utilize it better) I could absolutely see him getting rid of it. Maybe after Peter tells Beck about the suit and how it works, Beck has his group develop a way to cause it to malfunction during their next fight with the hologram Titans.
@radrno7
@radrno7 3 жыл бұрын
You could say literally the same about Homecoming and how Peter feels he doesn't deserve to have the Civil War suit Tony gave to him. The Iron Spider suit has even more of a meaning considering: 1) he got chosen to be an Avenger while wearing it; 2) he fought and died in it against the one who killed half of the universe; 3) he hugged, helped and witnessed Tony in his last moments while wearing it. This movie could've been the great earning of his own title and questioning not only Tony's image upon him but also himself as a superhero. He defeats Beck and destroys the thing that kept him from being the true hero he should be. Him giving EdiTH away only to go after it later feels too much like going after his last connection to Tony yet again and kind of meaningless because the glasses themselves have no real link between him and Tony.
@ericschnautz6603
@ericschnautz6603 3 жыл бұрын
One of the most powerful images in all of spider man comics is him walking away from his suit in a dumpster. This Peter is the definition of indecisive. Also, he didn't feel undeserving of the legacy. He felt the responsibility for the first time. A kid grows up in a world with super heroes and gets powers, so he uses them how he's expected to. But then the greatest hero of all time relies on him, that's where this Peter feels great responsibility. And he can't handle it. Peter learning about responsibility the hard way is a classic spider man story.
@yiklongtay6029
@yiklongtay6029 3 жыл бұрын
Ok. You could always have Peter's bunder be just admitting to Beck that his suit is Stark nanotech and that he wish to retire the suit. Armed with that knowledge, Beck will perform some slight of hand + illusions to steal the suit right there or even while Peter was walking outside with MJ.
@joelmiller2601

that’s interesting. Near the end Edith doesn’t obey Quentin when he asks to fire the drones, responding with “You’re in the killzone”, and only does it after receiving confirmation from Beck, so why didn’t Edith warn Peter? If that drone strike hit the bus, he would’ve been in the killzone.. Small nitpick but still weird.
@Dead25m
@Dead25m 3 жыл бұрын
Difference is that Quentin wanted the drones (multiple of them btw) to fire at a moving target whilst him being really close to the firing drones. In the bus scene, the target was sitting still with the only moving part being predictable movements of a bus on a road and tbh they were pretty far apart (front and back of the bus) and it was only 1 drone which Peter wasn't near either. My take on it is that it calculates the situation, bullets that are going to be fired and from how many drones, distance between the actuator and the drones/target, and how accurate the shots will be dependant on the targets movement.

I like Nando's take, but an even smaller change would be just have EDITH be an informational resource. All of Stark's advice for Peter, all the threats Stark was tracking, basically more training wheels from Tony as well as valuable secrets Beck would reasonably want to get rich from since his hero motivation doesn't make sense. That way Tony isn't giving a weapons platform to a child and Beck's plan is simpler.

MoreThanEpoch Also also from what I understand EDITH is not the one and only access to Stark tech! It makes sense, but I don't know if it would work as far as character. I would argue that Peter would NEVER give away the Iron Spider suit, because it was the last thing Tony gave him. Tony was essentially Peter's father figure. It's like how a son is given a pocket knife by their Dad and they keep it long after he's gone because it's a relic of their relationship. The Iron Spider suit is a relic of Tony and Peter's relationship, which I don't think Peter should ever want to willingly give up, like in your scenario. Is EDITH dumb? Yeah. I would say you just eliminate EDITH from the movie and just have Mysterio mosey along with what he was doing before. Instead of keeping Peter around, Quintin can try and manipulate Spidey to LEAVE under the disguise of him caring about his trip so that way there are fewer people that can figure him out. Mysterio's motivation can also be kind two-fold. His inward goal is that he wants to mentally stick it to Tony (which can help hammer in how much of a villain he is, since Tony's dead) but his outward goal, the one his crew are more behind, is to become a hero and take advantage of all the perks that come with it. I personally think that since Beck is SO focused on sticking it to Tony in his mind, that he doesn't think about meeting other heroes, once again showing how misguided he is. I did like your idea about how Peter is a bit downtrodden after the events of Endgame at the beginning of the movie though. I definitely would have done that. Always love watching your videos!

@@pierce8878 Your argument is valid. However, the way I see it, The Iron Spider suit was the last thing Tony gave Peter while he was still alive. Peter didn't know about EDITH until he was already dead. I like to think people would hold onto a memento a father gave them WHILE they were alive, not something given to them after their death. The fact that Tony himself gave it to him is importent. Plus, sometimes it doesn't even have to be the last thing. The suit is the embodiment of Peter and Tony's relationship, and I don't think Peter would give that up to some random person he just met, no matter the circumstances.

I don't think Peter would be as quick to give away the Iron Spider Suit as he was to give away EDITH. The reason he gave EDITH to Mysterio was Tony's "For the next Iron Man, I trust you" message, which Peter interpreted as Tony telling him to give EDITH to whoever he thought was most worthy. *Peter didn't think EDITH was made for him.* The Iron Spider Suit was specifically built as a custom suit for Peter to use. Like you said, it was the real last thing that Tony made for him, so he has a lot more emotional attachment to the suit than he did to EDITH, and it's unlikely that he'd give it away as readily. In order for the plot device to work, EDITH had to be something new and detached, otherwise Peter wouldn't have wanted to give it away.

I get that the suit personalizes Peter's personal conflict more than Edith, but Peter doesn't doubt his identity as Spiderman. Peter is a local superhero. During the little reception Aunt May hosts for Spiderman and the press, Peter is bombarded with these questions about the world and stuff. All of these things are far above the threshhold that Peter is used to, and he accordingly mumbles, "ah don't you have any about the neighbhorhood" (paraphrased to the best of my memory). Peter's comfortable with his role as the local hero. As the friendly neighbhorhood Spiderman, but not the planetary hero: the Avenger. That's Peter's conflict. He doesn't know if can address the need for heroes that big in the wake of Tony's death. Peter is not ready to be an Avenger. Hence, Edith, Tony's legacy, bestowed unto Peter. The glasses with AI that controls these killer drones cradled in this sattelite drifting around Earth's atmosphere. An appropriately above-world object to represent Peter's fears and doubts regarding his ability to become a hero for Earth and not just Queens, his neighbhorhood. In fact, it-s why all these titles "Far From Home" are appropriate. He's learning to become a hero outside of his home, his comfort zone.

I have to say, you make very valid points but I believe EDITH is a crutch in telling the story of peter moving out of his comfort zone. I believe the suit being the "metaphor" or medium or whatever for the conflict within peter would have been better. Maybe not exactly give the whole suit, maybe allow mysterio to study it, take a sample and have his team whip up a new (visually) inferior looking suit. It's not 100% genuine stark nanotech but otherwise it' purely aesthetic idk how but anyway.. moving on. Having peter being tricked into giving EDITH to mysterio is such a R'arded mistake. Regardless of age, given the gravity of the matter I doubt a "model" teenager who is smart as peter and have experienced misusing advanced tech like we see in HC, would have more thought put into giving something so dangerous to someone he just met a few days ago. Personally, I find peter's mistakes in far from home so sloppy which makes Nando's point about his judgement and skills atrophied makes total sense, and lending an advance suit for a moment or however is less sloppy than giving essentially a skeleton key to stark industries. My point is that there are many ways for the suit to be the deus ex machina of the movie instead of EDITH which personally made the movie less enjoyable for me. I like this reimagining.

I think you're being way too reliant on the snap being such a big impact on Peter. He didn't survive the snap, so he didn't really have to deal with the consequences of the snap or the failure. He kinda just popped back into existence. You can tell it didn't have an effect on him by the way he approached Tony in the Endgame finale and was like "woah you were there one second then you were gone and Dr. Strange was like 'it's been five years let's go'" and then Tony hugged him. I don't think he'd really see it as his failure, because to him they succeeded in the end. He didn't personally have to suffer the consequences of the failure, and he's a kid so he can sympathize with the victims, but can't fully understand.
@DanFlavel
@DanFlavel 4 жыл бұрын
I think there is a pretty big difference between someone's initial reaction to a tragic event and how they perceive it months later. He literally went from battle, to dying, to suddenly being somewhere else and being told he was gone for 5 years, to another immediate battle where he lost his father figure. Not a whole lot of room to process what's going on there right? Also, he gets to see all the suffering of the people in his few months back, it's probably too dark to be shown in a Spider-Man movie but there would be a lot of suicide, relationships being replaced, and lots of other horrible things. What first seemed like a victory soon shows itself to be a failure, and Peter, as someone who came so close to stopping Thanos, would feel immense guilt. Especially as a dumb hormonal teenager. If it weren't a marvel film and something a bit darker they could show at the school all of the suicides of his classmates, and maybe have him hear his neighbor (who got a new wife and had a kid) argue with his presnap wife every night. There are a lot of things that they could do to have his character understand.

I mean from Peter's perspective, he just failed, and caused half of life to be erased from existence, when he was somebody who could've stopped thanos as he literally almost took off the gauntlet off his hand. Yes he does come back and he has to shake things off and focus on the final battle, but it still ultimately results in iron man and black widows death, probably even more avengers. And the world he comes back to isn't the same as half the earth's population was missing for 5 years. It also works with Peter's character as if he often likes to blame himself for things that aren't even his fault, like uncle Ben dying.

Honestly, same. It's bizare that people think he shouldn't have some long lasting momento from Tony JUST because they don't like it, or personally feel it's too far removed from what they perceive as Spider-Man. That's silly, and narrow-minded. Edith was the embodiment of Tony placing his trust in Peter to pick up the slack if anything happened to him. He cared about him deeply, he placed his faith in him when "everyone said I was crazy to recruit a 14 year old kid." And then said kid went out with him to space to help fight Thanos because Peter wanted to do what was right, and proved how capable he was multiple times (ever since Homecoming). This is why Tony giving Peter Edith, or some other example of great power, doesn't come off as unnatural to me. This is where the story's been building too.

But in all honesty, Endgame didn't do that arc justice when it came to Thor, it more played how he handled his trauma for laughs, then through in one quick "I'm still worthy" line, and that was that. And Spider-Man is one of the characters that the "I failed" arc really works with, because guilt is an intrinsic part of Spider-Man as a character, so I feel that seeing him grapple with the fact that he can arguably be blamed for the temporary death of half of all life in the universe, plus the fact that he literally DIED and is now five years out of sync with many of the people around him (which I think Far From Home should have leaned a bit harder into, rather than just a couple of throwaway jokes) with have made for a very compelling film

Point was the superhero genre is so oversaturated you can’t avoid repetition so saying you can’t do a thing because something remotely similar was already done sounds like an absurdity when you’re talking about superhero movies. Any genre this old and with this much content is going to have some tropes, it’s how creatively they’re used or subverted that keeps the genre adaptable enough to not get stale

They aren’t major rewrites for completely different stories, they’re subtle changes that bring out new depth and storytelling potential that wasn’t being used effectively. If you ran this far from home change during pre-production or the endgame change (during shooting even) I doubt the producers would have a problem with it. Again though he’s getting old. He can’t be a hero forever and it makes sense that Tony wouldn’t want another Nick Fury. When you think about Peter he’s still full of so much optimism and he inspires people and uplifts them . He’s not the next Tony Stark he’s the first Peter Parker , someone as smart as Tony without the ego or bleak outlook on the world. Someone creative enough to come up with his own answer to a problem instead of walking the same beaten route . Peter is remarkably different than the rest of the heroes and that’s why Tony chose him . Plus if we’re looking at this from a real life perspective the Hulk wouldn’t make sense because Mark Ruffalo isn’t going to be the Hulk forever he’s gonna have to walk away sooner or later . I really don’t know why Peter with Edith is really such a problem for a lot of you guys honestly . He’s gonna be the leader of the new avengers eventually so it makes sense

The hulk was still uncontrollable during age of ultron Tony also never physically interacted with T'challa, and T'challa has his own lab and equipments from his sister, so EDITH would of been useless for him. I also doubt that Tony would want to wrap Rhodey into EDITH and the weight of protecting the world since in Civil War, he got paralyzed because of Tony.

That's why Iron Man's ability to fix the hole in the big donut ship in Infinity War is basically identical to Rocket's ability to fix the Milano in Guardians of the Galaxy volume 2. Despite Stark not having any form of contact with their whole 'section' of the universe before that point. Tbh nano tech never actually got that well established in the MCU. Starlord's helmet is only believable because it's alien tech. Iron Spider suit is somewhat ok because it's just an armor that forms around your body, like the nano glove Tony had back at Civil War. Black Panther and Iron Man suits make no sense because: 1) vibranium was turned into a big all convenient plot device, where it can be turned into literally anything and they'll just say "well vibranium..."; 2) mark 50 could rebuild itself instantly infinite times and he would just say "well nano tech...". I'm not trying to say they don't work, but at no point did they get defined well enough to make sense. I mean, Tony's suit could take direct shots from the power stone but would break instantly from Thanos hits. And if it wasn't for the Wakanda train tracks, T'Challa and Killmonger would stay slapping each other all day until one of them got tired.

And, if anything, that fact that his plan doesn’t make much sense is just showing how he just wants to be a superhero, and doesn’t think about the consequences or how it will all work out. If anything, it sort of mimics how some of us fans would love to be superheroes, and if given the chance would pursue it, not thinking about the specifics, albeit it much less evil ways. I’m not saying Edith wasn’t irritating or a tad contrived but I definitely don’t know when he’d have used it in endgame. The time heist was a hesit not a full on attack, and assuming Edith was just tied to the glasses which were probably not on Tony’s person at the time, he wouldn’t have had access to it in the final fight of endgame. It could have been made in the five year gap, with him writing a will before the time heist, very much like the recording, that should Peter be brought back he’d get Edith, as it seems like the kind of thing Stark would make in his paranoia to protect the world while he lived with his family. Idk, I’m not saying its perfect, but they’re just my thoughts.

I have issues with mysterio's plan and edith too. Though I appreciate the approach to Peter's confidence via spidey sense... ultimately this kinda seems like an iffy solution. Mysterio is thematically weakened with these ideas. The fact that mysterio was only ever a man in front of a camera is SO essential to that character. And I also enjoy the Stark hating contrast Beck and Co provided while the whole world was practically worshipping Tony. I think this approach would lack that.

I saw the edith glasses as being about power and responsibility - in this case Peter being conflicted over what his responsibilities are in a post-endgame world. To me, that’s classic spidey (obviously superficially different due to the context of the mcu). I did enjoy the video and fully agree that the mob scenes should have been left in. I agree with losing the suit with the exception of the mask, and I say this for two reasons: 1, the eyes allow for emotion with the mask on allowing us a rare case of comic book-like expressions; and 2, the MCU already made the case that Peter's senses are too strong and need focusing. The mask solved that.

For the first time, I completely disagree. While there was *zero* foundation laid for the E.D.I.T.H. glasses prior to this movie, which naturally makes it's introduction a touch awkward, the use of a *separate* and distinct token for Stark to have passed on to the one he sees as his spiritual successor in the world of super-hero-ing is more like a king passing his sword down to his son in a fantasy setting. Yes, Stark gave the suit to Peter, but it wasn't something he was going to do, it was an emergency to keep Peter from dying in low-earth-orbit. Were it not for that, Peter wouldn't even have come back post-snap.

That's what makes the events of Far From Home compelling in a sense. {SPOILERS} Peter struggling with the fact that he can't ever go on vacation and get away from the world of Spider-Man. That he will ALWAYS be Spider-Man and will never lead a normal teenage life.(especially after Jameson's lovely cameo) Even if he gives up being Tony's successor, the world will always need a hero to save the little guy. But captain marvel's movie and the fact this was the last x-men discouraged them from leaving an inevitable open ending, so they just made up a new end and called it a day (since the consequences to the franchise didn't matter or influence them anymore)

Sorry but this rewrite makes even less sense. Why would peter give him the suit? As far as he knows, Mysterio is a sorcerer like Dr Strange and he doesnt need the suit and probably wouldnt have much use of it. Meanwhile EDITH is AI that has all kinds of abilities to spy and monitor, many satellites etc. Drones are the least valuable thing in EDITH. So, id rather they rewrite the whole script and make it so Mysterio is with peter from the get go, and has ulterior motive for the ilusions. Peter wants to fill up the void left by Tony with Beck. Midway trough he finda out the truth (maybe he connects robberies with attacks) and realises he must be his own hero and let go of Tonys influence and not be Iron Man Jr. but be Spider-Man . So, he throws the suit that has hampered his abilities away and makes himself a clean suit with NO special features other than moving eyes (but id remove that aswell tbh). After the end battle, he is sad about the Beck and lements that his icon turned out to be a fake and evil aswell. Mysterio still reveals his identity at the end. That way Mysterio is a petty thief, Peter has better emotional connection and he is his own hero at the end, finally ridding himself of Iron Mans influence. It works on more levels and isnt about the tech (not only, at least) and is about his mentor/icon figure. P. S. As for Fury, have him be info dump for missions and be a bit smarter. Reveal the skrulls at the end also. That part isnt as important.

Tony has the Edith Glasses on in Infinity War. They were just under the “Friday” monicker. Should a simple reconfiguration to name them Edith and pass them along to Peter that they don’t really have to show us cuz it doesn’t fit in Endgame it would just deter from the movie. So we can assume he did that when he was recording his will. Great video and idea nonetheless. And he wouldn’t give the glasses to anyone other than peter he had the closest connection to peter of all the other characters, and treated him like the Heir to the throne. Him and cap never resolved their issues before Tony would’ve made the Edith glasses nor would he expect Cap to be alive if he was recording his own will. He wouldn’t give them to Fury cuz he knows fury essentially put a gun to every living persons head in “Winter Soldier” so why would he give him the opportunity to do that again. And really all side characters who mean nothing to overall marvel story trynna tell like Pepper or The boy from Ironman 3 cmon Nando lol.

That's a common theme in the MCU...directors are afraid of calling upon too many pre-established characters, cuz they wanna do their own thing. Bucky for example prolly could've played a bigger role in Black Panther, but Ryan Coogler wanted to focus on his characters like Killmonger and M'Baku. It's kind of a plot hole when you think about it... Cap brought Bucky to Wakanda to be placed under T'challa's care. All the scientists working on him report to T'challa. Once he "dies", they report to Killmonger. Wouldn't they have mentioned "what do you want us to do with this white dude Captain America asked T'challa to take care of"? The closet answer might be that some of the scientists decided to feign loyalty to Killmonger, and told Bucky to remain hidden.
