I totally agree with your statement about hormones. I know that they were the best thing for me within 2 or 3 weeks everyone noticed changes I was more social, calmer & talkative. Plus I was more confident, it was like a miracle to me. Before the hormones I was extremely introverted. It's like am a new person, I feel as if I've been reborn.

I’ve seen a gender specialist but I felt like it was simply dragging on with no feedback whatsoever. My regular therapist identifies as LGBTQ but he says he’s not specialized in gender issues but was actually the one to diagnose gender dysphoria and has provided more insight than the gender specialist I was seeing. Do you recommend someone still going to a gender therapist or sticking with their regular therapist when they experience situations like this? Thank you ☺️

Omg I wish you were my gender therapist! In my country we have to go through the 'diagnostic phase' that lasts at least 7 months. That is the rule. Now, I don't have a problem with that, because it is for a reason and I think it's importent. But I didn't feel listened to. They just asked questions to make a diagnosis. When I had a personal question they just said "we can't help you with that". There wasn't really any guidance or support. I do believe we have to find another specialist for the guidance part, who aren't part of the hospitals multidiciplinary genderteams. But that fact surprised me a bit.

Thank you for your video and the great resources. I’m 35 and I’m now starting to explore my gender identity. During this process I am remembering times in my life where gender dysphoria may have been trying to appear but I kept just ignore it. When I think about this I am reminded of the video where you talk about how you can’t out run gender dysphoria. I am glad that after 21 years I am finally able to recognize that there is a Incongruence with my gender identity and my biological sex. I’m also now examining myself physically/mentally and recognizing the areas where I feel dysphoric. I just talked to my counselor as well about my feelings of gender dysphoria. He told me that he does not have much experience with gender counseling and suggested that I see a gender therapist. I am really happy that I finally get to schedule an appointment with a gender therapist and get to discuss all the things that I’m struggling with. I am glad though that I was able to discuss my gender issues with my counselor. It was very helpful as you help me realize that I shouldn’t focus so much on whether I have gender dysphoria or not. It’s just hard because I worry about transitioning and only wanna do it if I have gender dysphoria. Since I don’t want to make my body and mind out of alignment. But he’s helping me realize it’s better to focus on the symptoms than focus so much on the diagnosis. This is helping me with my anxiety as I wait to talk to a gender therapist and see if I have gender dysphoria.

The last therapist I had I had many issues with and ultimately couldn't help me the way I needed. She did help with some other issues (mostly) though; now I'm looking for a dedicated therapist who can hopefully get me on track. I don't think working with someone to get other issues out of the way is a bad thing.

The good Dr Z and her videos resonate with me. The number one (by far) reason I dont transition is sense of duty to my wife. The shame associated with disappointing her is overwhelming. As guys we are taught women and children first.

I was lured into consulting with a local clinic which told me of all the things they would do for me, then they fobbed off and referred me to my PCP. When I talked with them, they were willing to treat me for other issues, which didn't particularly bother me at all, but weren't willing to deal with the issue I presented to them. After a bit of referral roulette, I was finally seen by a wonderful doctor who is willing to listen and provide a rational plan for proceeding on this "new adventure".

I’m moving to a new city, and I was really worried about how to talk to a gender therapist, cause I know at this point and I don’t want someone who is gonna waste my time, it’s so precious and it took far to long to get to this point already. I really needed this thank you

Hi Dr. Z! I've known I was really a girl since before the age of three and was never in denial about being trans. I was, however, in denial that it was important.

I have been desperately trying to speak to a gender dysphoria specialist in my area. I have had one therapist refer me to a group local to me, but they never return my emails / calls. It is driving me insane. I went out as my preferred female self at the weekend. Out into the general public I went and met a friend for a coffee.

I would like some advice about my own current situation. I started seeing a psychotherapist two weeks ago. They completed a transgender certification program through The International Transgender Certification Association and describe themselves as a transgender care therapist, but it is not the primary focus of their practice. I've seen her twice and am trying to decide whether to continue or find someone else. I think that I'm fortunate in that there are many good gender therapists in this area.
