In 2018, Alek Minassian became the killer incel of the Toronto Van Attack. Little did anyone know that his influence had come directly from a former friend, known only as Elliot Rodger, the supreme gentleman.

the way he talked about "chads" "stacy's" and "normies" seriously outside of the internet was quite... something.
@Wandergirl108

In that sense, he kinda reminds me of…not ME, exactly, but of something that happened in my childhood, actually. I guess it happens a lot for people on the spectrum: A group of people around us talk about a joke like it's a real thing, and we internalize it and miss the underlying fact that it's a joke. Led to me throwing a rock at a friend's bike and damaging it, because I thought us girls were going to throw rocks at the guys and was genuinely surprised when both sides immediately turned on me for doing what I thought we were doing. From the outside, we of course look completely absurd and/or crazy, but we didn't get the joke, we thought it was real and acted accordingly. Not saying murdering people because of that is excusable, just that talking about chads and stacys unironically makes sense from that perspective.

Calling yourself a “supreme gentleman” is probably the most ungentlemanly thing a person could say about themselves. A true gentleman doesn’t need to announce it, and usually won’t think that way about themselves anyway. It’s a description that others assign to a person who they’ve had frequent interactions with. A character witness so to speak. There’s a reason the saying “actions speak louder than words” has been around so long. If Eliot Roger was anything, he was the “supreme douchebag”. 😒

This case always hit close to home. My mother worked in the area of the attack. She and her coworker would always go on walks at lunch for the exercise. When the news broke I was frantically calling her. I couldn't get her, I was about to call one of my siblings then the phone rang. She had a meeting that ran long so she had to skip her walk. I was never so happy about a meeting taking place. The whole day was horrific.

I tried to find your link to the earlier video, however you didn't post it, at least where I could find it. So I found a different video that concentrated on the whole police interview which I found very informative. This senior detective was brilliant in conducting this specific interview. At first this perpetrator would refuse to answer any and all questions, however, this detective won over his confidence and he began opening up. Thank you Adrian for covering this story.

I'm autistic and just like him I would make animal sounds, move a lot and be bullied terribly. I'm glad you treated this case with respect, because many people use it to treat some autism traits as inherently bad or a sign of a bad person. Even lack of empathy, which can be very common with autistic people, does not make you a bad person. It means you can´t put yourself in someone else's shoes, but it doesn't mean you can't have compassion for others. This man did what he did not because he's autistic, and hearing his clear understanding of what he did and his lack of remorse, I'm glad he had to face the consequences for his actions.

I am an Incel too. By definition. In 31 years every women rejected me. And no women ever showed interest in me. A lot of people here miss why being an incel/virgin affects these people. People have a need for romantic encounters and realationship. It is attached - like every need - to your personal preferences. Some people want a long lasting marriage, other an open realationship and some want only one night stands. But what all people (with a sexual orientation) have in common is the activity seeking for some sort of romantic emcounter with the opposite sex. And God beware. If they dont get it. My female coworker cried when she was single for three months. My sister complained how the lockdown restricted her of hooking up and how it affects her mental health. Only two tell two of hundred examples. Well. Threre are men and women who dont recive the slightest amount of this because they get chronically rejected. They dont experience a dose of any romantic intimacy for years. They walke up alone, they go to bed alone, they nrver have a hug, they never have a kiss and all other things which envolve around this kind of realationship. Thats whats bad. Not whst people who arent even incels trying to sell here.

Here in Toronto we don’t even mention the guy’s name. He’s just “ the guy who lost his mind” and ran over a bunch of people on north Yonge St. Although he was given “life 25” meaning he’s not eligible for parole for at least 25 years, he will likely never be a free man again. Like Paul Bernardo, he will almost certainly have his parole application revoked each and every time. One of the many tragic things about this case is that had he sought some counselling and learned social skills, he may not have acted out his anger like this and those 10 innocent people would be alive and the 16 injured wouldn’t be literally scarred for life.
