No hate but this movie lacked a lot of foucus and character the original monster high had different accented characters and each character besides just Frankie, Clawdeen and Draculura were depicted well and this version lack in many way sure the music cool but what did the characters learn- nothing I feel that the og series and movie not that they were works of cinematic master pieces they had a plot that went through the whole movie. Plus Monster high was always about inclusion and being your best self besides what other thought that’s why I really dislike what they have done to our main characters 1. Clawdeen forever will always be a cool fashionista and big sister of the group taking away her siblings and ideals really makes her seem stupid in this film 2. Draculaura never was worried about grace and was always more than just a vegetarian she was sweet and a little naive making her a cold bitch obsessed with grades and a witchcraft takes away form her from her character and original relationship with her dad a one minded Vamp compared to the harsh vampire community Dracula really was a new thinker and cool he now is harsh and mean and down right stupid 3. Cleo used to be a bard bitch, she was a victim in this movie she didn’t even have a chance 4. Lagoons became a walking dumb mermaid she lost her 5. Ghoulia lost her whole language of zombie Lastly the outfit in this movie looked awful theses r FASHION dolls and this movie made them look like 2 dollar spirt Halloween models I ‘m just saying this new gen had flaws do not yes Frankie is better and yes the music slaps but don’t look at this room through rose colored glasses

thats the typical lore of werewolves, but in monster high it hasnt really been that at all! in generation 1 (and now generation 3), werewolves are basically just people with ears and a tail but with wolf traits. we never see clawdeen fully transform from human into a wolf in gen1 and gen3, only in gen2 (welcome to monster high), and even then she has dog ears as a "human", never a full human. so its actually more congruent with gen 1 lore! i think clawdeens mom would be like gen1 clawdeen where shes just a dog-human since shes a full monster. also technically the lore of werewolves isnt that theyre half human, theyre fully human who are cursed to turn into wolves or wolfmen, depending.

I really appreciate your take on this. As someone who grew up with Monster High as well I was very cynical about this new movie. But your take definitely makes me look more at the positives of this version. I definitely think that there's a lot of potential there, it just wasn't fully realized in the movie. But as you said there's a potential trilogy (and there's also an animated show coming out) so hopefully Nickelodeon will explore that.

I think for fans from childhood to enjoy it, you need to separate it from the original, which is obviously better, and I think a lot of fans struggle with it, myself included at the beginning. But once I did separate the two, I realized that this story has a lot of potential and is actually enjoyable.

I don't think young fans of G3 are going to confuse it with G1. Although you're allowed to dislike the new gen, I think it has a lot of potential with its new lore and character conflicts, even if it's nothing like G1 and admittedly watered down for kids. It already has a fanbase unlike the previous reboot which was both unoriginal and uninteresting. I get people are puritans about the classic but I don't think G3 is gonna flop no matter how desperate they want it to :p

ok, I just wanna make something clear with my post, I’m not saying the reboot will flop, and I know I should’ve expressed that, I am just not a fan, I can see why younger audiences would like it and that’s ok, I’m not going to deny people of what they like, I was just giving my thoughts but now that more releases have come out, although I am still skeptical I want to see monster high thriving again.

its not like the original was all gritty and deep. most of the webisodes were corny as heck. and when monster high first started out I hate to say it and ruin your nostalgia but the characters were pretty one dimensional too. when the webisodes first started it was pretty bare bones. but as time went on the character grew and became more than just one dimensional stereotypes. im not saying this movie is a masterpiece not at all, but people praise the original monster high way too much and put it on a pedestal when this new version is doing a lot of the same stuff the original did in the beginning. and no one is going to confuse gen 1 with gen 3. kids who grow up with this gen aren't dumb. I grew up with reboot dolls and was able to tell the difference between my doll's generation and the older ones people before me grew up with. its not hard to understand.

The reason people liked it so much was because of its unique characters and feeling included. It also had a unique style from everything else on the market and now it feels like they’re watering it down. I understand that monster high isn’t for us anymore apparently, but we have the right to be upset. Yes, some people take their criticisms way too far, but most fans are able express their feelings without putting down others. I understand you probably didn’t grow up with it, but it meant a lot to me and a lot of people who felt like they had nowhere where they could express themselves and monster high was more inclusive that any other fashion doll brand

im very sorry to tell you, but the original clawdeen was not a lesbian in canon! the creator, garrett sanders, was already let go from mattel when he even began answering the Q&A. in the Q&A, he specifically says *valentine* and *neightan* were meant to be gay but mattel blocked it, and he tried to add a hint in valentine's diary that said he got some guys number. when the fan asked about clawdeen being a lesbian, he said there were no plans for her to be a lesbian, she was meant to be attracted to boys but just not as boy-crazy as drac and frankie. in her diary one of her favorite activities is flirting with boys. she was not intended to be gay throughout generation 1's runtime. he says he loves the idea of her being a lesbian and that fans should run with it, then used a hashtag to rightfully piss off people who were mad that shes gay. as much as i love lesbian clawdeen, she was NOT a lesbian in canon. the addition is post-hock, long after he had creative control. we dont consider JKR's gay-dumbledore and black-hermione canon because it's not included in the canon material and was added after the fact. we should hold the same standards for clawdeen! and it was not the same as lesbian velma, where the creators tried to make her gay but were blocked so they wrote in hints. that's MUCH more similar to valentine, not clawdeen. i think its a missed opportunity to not make her a lesbian since so many fans wanted it and garrett said she should be, but it was never ACTUALLY canon, so they arent actually erasing anything. a lot of the complaints people had about representation being erased were headcanons that were never actually canon, lesbian clawdeen included. anything that seems like hints toward clawdeen being a lesbian were likely just the writers accidentally writing in chemistry between two straight characters, this happens a lot with male characters in shonen anime (naruto and sasuke, for example), but we shouldn't consider that ACTUAL canon because the creators dont deserve the accolades of having representation where there is none. similarly, it was not canon that ghoulia was disabled, abbey was trans, or lagoona was indigenous australian. i believe theyre all missed opportunities and it wouldve been nice to actually have these realized in generation 3, but they were never ACTUALLY canon so they arent *erasing* anything.

@@nar_aspan "according to many people in the fandom" is a shitty metric. fandom doesnt dictate canon. i headcanon all clawdeens as lesbians but i understand that just because i believe it, it doesnt mean she actually is until theres explicit confirmation or intentional coding (in cases where it cant be actualized). i dont consider creators confirming things after the fact with no intentional coding whatsoever to be actual representation and i would suggest more people do the same to avoid getting disappointed by actual canon material. garrett "confirmed it" (he mostly just signed off on the headcanon and said "sure, i can make her gay if i want to") long after he had already left, lost creative control, and theyd been working on the next generations already. its even likely that, based on the timeline, the movie had already began production when he made that statement. the movie is not related to the new show, or at least it isnt 1-to-1. the movie is supposed to act as an introduction to gen 3. we can see that because in the preview cartoons, draculaura hasnt told her dad shes a witch yet. they might not even include a deuce/clawdeen romance in the main story. again, i think if they DONT make her a lesbian in the show it will be a missed opportunity, but its NOT erasing what was never there in the first place. people also keep saying that the times where she had a crush on boys in gen1 couldve been comphet and while i agree, i dont see why people dont extend the same idea to gen3? they could easily make a story where she comes out instead of making her a lesbian from the beginning. the show is supposed to be about the ghouls growing and coming to terms with their differences, so a coming out story would be a perfect addition. (i also noticed in the cartoon preview that lagoona mentions a romance between a human and a witch, and we do see that clawdeen is human and drac is a witch, so maybe it was cute foreshadowing? unlikely, but i like to think its intentional)
