At night time the interior of military vehicles are light using red lights as it stops your pupils from fully constricting giving you better vision in the dark. If they were to use white light your pupils would constrict and you wouldn't see anything in the dark outside the vehicle

So it's been done before? Who cares. Just about every trope and writing point had been attempted in some movie or TV show at some point. They're gonna get repeated sometime regardless. Why complain about it? I saw Clone Wars and remember that episode of Anakin and Obi-Wan training the villagers against Hondo's pirate's too but you can't expect the writers to make EVERY EPISODE of the series utterly unique without borrowing conceptually from someone else. It's unavoidable and honestly kinda pointless to expect any different.

The reason the Mandalorian didn’t think of bounty hunters hunting baby yoda on the planet was because he thought it was far out of reach from any bounty hunter, at the beginning he literally says they were going to hide out on the planet for a couple of months, but the bounty hunter being killed on the planet showed the Mandalorian that baby yoda will always be hunted no matter where he is

Worth pointing out that we have no idea how these tracking things work, but I kinda doubt that it's as simple as them pointing exactly at whatever planet you need to go to, even if you're half a galaxy away. They're probably just lifeform scanners, which are used all the time in Star Wars, except these ones are attuned to a specific individual. So it helps once you're on the planet, but doesn't help if they have no idea what planet he's on.

One of the moments that really breaked my suspension of disbelieve was when the attacked the raider camp, they're inside a building, hear bad guys coming, prepare to attack them and do it with punching...Seriously ? We've seen the mandalorian use blades before, and of course blasters would have attracted too much attention, but you're telling me that those two veterants went on a covert action without bringing a knife ?? I know in reality its probably because the fight would have been too short and god forbid we see someone bleed (You wouldn't what that PG 13 rating), but that really seemed like an out of character blunder to me and brought me out of it Although...do series on internet platforms get rated the same way as tv shows and movies ?

The setting of the episode was just so artificial.. Of course he runs into some old partner instantly in the absolute middle of nowhere. Then, of course there is a raider camp like 10 minutes' walk away from the farmers, while neither group really makes too much sense. How small is the harvest when it gets carried off by like 10 ugly dudes? And how shit are the raiders that they actually lose to some stick wearing peasants while they own blasters and other weapons? They didn't even seem to kill a single farmer, even though apparently the atst can take out "entire companies of soldiers". And how do the trackers even work? Before in the movies, the tracker was a gadget that you attached to things, now the bounty hunters just know where someone is across the galaxy. Throw in the horribly forced love interest and the cheesy family life scenes as well for good measure.

@@GamingandFrightened No, Phillip is actually right. In many instances where you need to light up a dark area but still maintain the eye's sensibility to light, the red light is used. It is because the human eye is the least sensitive to red light (specific wavelength, also it is most sensitive to green). For instance, I, as an astronomer, have some apps for when we watch meteor showers that have a night mode which is actually replacing all colors on the screen with the shades of dark red. In that way you eyes retain most of their adjustment do low light conditions. And of course military uses it. Mainly in fighting vehicles, transports and planes. Actually, in all equipment that is used during the dark where it is expected to leave the lighted area and join the fight at once, or in situations where that might happen. Like APC. The soldiers would rush out and fight but if they come out from well light vehicle into a dark, they are going to be blinded as it takes a few minutes for eyes to adjust. It is also the case if the APC runs over a mine or gets pinned down in the dark - so even if you want to, you don't have the time to adjust. And in the case of the AT-ST it also makes perfect sense. They need to light up the interior so they can see what they are doing but at the same time keep their eyes as ready as possible in the case they need to go out of the vehicle in a hurry. So Eliott and Destructus, Phillip is not stupid or wrong, it is just that you two have gaps in knowledge. It is OK, this is a specific thing that ordinary people don't really have to know, it is not a shame to not know THIS. But it is shameful to critique someone out of personal ignorance.

@@Wustenfuchs109 except those pirates weren't human and using that very human logic doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Some points: Leaving him there DID make essential sense. The planet is a backwater that doesn't even have an actual starport, and no real cities. There's basically nothing there to track the Yodaling in a conventional manner, since you need to be within range of it to be able to use the fob tracker. The Mandalorian is also now hunted directly by the Guild, and potentially the remnants of the Empire's forces, so looking for a safe place to stash the kid is a solid tactical decision, if ill-fated. To the red eyes on the Imperial Walker: Actually, we use those red lights in the military. Not kidding, you will see that kind of lighting in tanks, subs, and on field tactical flashlights, and there's a specific reason: Due to the way human eyes work, the red light allows for brightening, without destroying night vision. This a legit thing that the military does, so the walker having red lighting for night time engagements makes perfect tactical sense. That leads to what was brilliant about Cara's strategy against it. By getting up to that embankment, and taking the shots from cover, she created a serious problem for the Walker. While red light preserves night vision, it hits an issue with details, with some things sort of bleeding together (You saw this when they were trying to look for her). So basically, you've got a nigh-invisible enemies that you know the general location of, but you can't target specifically. That's why they switched to the spotlight, to pick her out for the kill, especially after they realized she was going for the cockpit as target. This way they could find her directly, and end the threat despite her cover. Once she took out the starboard side porthole eye, they had to move forward before she finished blinding them with another shot, stepping right in to the trap and dooming themselves. "Hard" evidence Mandalorian isn't a born member of the clan: Um, guys, they did that in Ep 2, when he's getting his pauldron. He straight out states that he was a foundling, when the Smith is talking about donating the extra Beskar Steel to the foundlings. That's pretty hard confirmation right there.
@Optamizm

"'Foundling' is an historic term applied to children, usually babies, that have been abandoned by parents and discovered and cared for by others." Not everyone on Mandalore would wear helmets, right? In the olden days they formed a massive empire and used the method you described to integrate other people who were not ethnically mandalorian into their culture. The funny part is that the mandalorian core-world pretty much completely threw away their warrior culture in favour of a pacifist lifestyle, which didnt catch on on their colony worlds. If I recall correctly it was common practise for the Mandalorians to raise orphans they recovered after a battle. Jango Fett himself was raised as a foundling by the leader of a Mandalorian mercenary army.

I mean at this point EVERY kinda writing trope has been used in films at this point. Quite a bit in Star Wars too. You can't expect the directors to ALWAYS come up with totally unique writing in every episode. At some point they're gonna accidentally borrow another film's concept. It's unrealistic to expect them not to.
@thebuzzkill967
@thebuzzkill967 4 жыл бұрын
Chuck Valliant I don’t think there is any ‘accidental’ borrowing here. The show reeks of lazy, bland, writing, incorporating any easy cliche and trope of substandard action and western films. It’s ok to use cliche or tropes - but the execution of them, and how they can develop characters or progress the plot in a clever, ingenious, or unusual or unexpected way, is a sign of a great writer. There are no such signs in this show.

Brandon1267 the episode sucked! Love the first 3 tho. Bryce Dallas Howard's directing was truly lacking. Howard's storyboarding was very amateur too. Some scenes/takes felt like deleted scenes and needed to be reshot. The tone was off, even tempo felt off rhythm in some areas, & many actors performances were cringe. Jon Favreau also dropped the ball with this cliche episode's narrative. glad Howard didn't direct the pilot Episode.

My take on him attempting to give up Baby Yoda is that he might be scared of putting him in the same boat that he was: dying in front of him and leaving him alone in the world. On Mando's Mandalorian legitimacy: In legends, which they SEEM to be carrying over to canon, Mandalorians would often adopt orphans from all species and raise them as Mandalorians because being a Mandalorian isn't/wasn't restricted to a single species. It was instead a religon or an idea, if you want to be Mandalorian, then you must follow these tenents: Protect your Family/Clan, learn the Language, wear the armor, and always heed Manda'alore's/Mandalore's (Leader of The Mandalorians) call.

Sprits Fal if you play 100% rpg’s (heavily dramatized) you probably missed one of the quests in mount & blade war band where your character has to train a bunch of villagers (after they get pillaged horribly) then the villagers take days until they’re prepared to fight “the final wave” of pillagers. This is such a cliché, an rpg cliché at that.

I remember Clone Wars did a Seven Samarai tribute. They should have gotten Stallone to direct a Rambo 2009 remake, call the episode "Mando." If the AT-ST was carrying disruptors introduced in Episode 3, watch it slaughter the village in that same shocking fashion, women and children disentegrated. Then later, Mando hijacks the AT-ST to turn it on the pirates! Then he leaps down to gut the leader with his special blade. (Sorry, not up on all the new SW weapon names yet.) THAT is an homage worth remaking!

Imagine if this ended with them actually having a Firefly like crew for the next season? Nick the mechanic, he also brings a fixed IG-11, Cara brings the support, and they get a bigger ship cause his gets wrecked at the end. And the few extra things would be nice is if the Heavy Mando joins. If they did that, that would be freaking sweet. And hopefully we see more likeable characters that could get to join or also help out later.

Yeah I'm having a hard time with how short the series is, too. I have to agree that they're trying to pack in a lot in a short amount of time, like for instance this sudden romance (even if it is for one episode). Plus I agree, I wanted to know a little more about the widow & why she was so good with a gun. I am enjoying the show so far, I just want more time for things to be fleshed out.
