Something I forgot to mention in the video: the T has also made the Commuter Rail up to Zone 2 effectively free, added a Haverhill Line stop at Oak Grove, and added a Providence Line stop at Forest Hills. Additionally, you can get a 30-day Bluebikes pass for free! So there are other nice mitigations they've made - that Bluebikes one in particular is fantastic.

You need to come to the Minnesota State Fair sometime, Miles! The transit center there is an amazing mix of the different Twin Cities transit agencies, random coach buses, and pretty-old transit buses that just have paper signs with the overhead sign stuck on something completely random (there's an old Houston Metro bus they've been using for years that still rotates between "Special" and "Seasons Greetings" with some old signage inside.) The buses feed into all the different park and rides, many of which are only active for the 12 days of the fair. It's a transit spotter's paradise!

The old Toronto Bay Street coach terminal was like this during the (Canadian) Thanksgiving and Christmas peak periods when there was so much demand that Greyhound would charter overflow buses from wherever they could get them. They would run out of bus bays so buses would end up loading and unloading on nearby streets. TBH my most memorable Greyhound trip was on a Christmas overflow charter from Kitchener to Toronto, in an ancient manual transmission 96A3 in which the driver bombed down the left lane of the 401 at probably 140 the whole way (passing people on the right when necessary), and made the trip a few minutes under an hour.

with plane seats, often it is not really even the size, but the shapes that make them uncomfortable (for those for whom size itself is not such an issue).... in many city buses I see there are a few seats which do allow for free legroom, such as the middle rear seat or the bench seat nearest the front... coaches do not have that though. also, what about accessibility... can't help notice all those steps (albeit, the orange line is not step-free either)

TTC up here in Canada is notorious for shutting down sections of the core subway network for construction and upgrades on weekends. It usually looks like a several dozens of buses queued up at stations and intersections along the subway route. It is a notorious mess because the largely suburban Toronto City Council doesn't want to block off streets for car traffic even on weekends...even when hundreds of buses are supposed to carry thousands of subway riders. But yeah, this is still a lesser mess than whatever that was. Bus lanes are great and necessary, but having 30 minute headways for a rapid transit substitute in the city proper is truly mental

It was so chaotic and there were so many people waiting for the subway shuttle, I said f**k it, took the 88 to the edge of Leaside and walked from there. In retrospect that was probably the best itinerary anyway-the Wilket Creek trail was a nice surprise. Thanks, TTC!

You guys are awesome, this was so entertaining and informative. And that bus only lane on the Gilmore bridge was a nice thought but in practice, completely ignored in rush hour traffic. You just can’t expect 6 lanes of traffic coming from all different directions to pour into 1 lane that is already gridlocked from end to end.

I rode the shuttle yesterday from Forest Hills to Copley. The bus was very nice (a Prevost X3-45) but the trip was so slow. Going through Amory and Lamartine streets wasn't bad but once we got out of Ruggles it was a lot of stop and go due to heavy traffic on Columbus Avenue. Usually if I take the Orange Line it takes 12-15 minutes tops, but the shuttle was 30 minutes. Tips for the MBTA... - Run an express shuttle between Forest Hills, Ruggles and Copley, using Columbus Avenue. - Amory and Lamartine Streets should have an MBTA route, even if it's to Jackson Square.

At first I wasn't sure which transit system this would be, but then I remembered that only part of the Washington Metro orange line is shut down. I didn't know about the T shutdown. I also don't understand why the first bus skipped a bunch of stations. Was it an express from Forest Hills to Copley? Maybe I missed something. The orange line used to be my commuting line when I lived in Malden (1979-81). It was pretty new then, but we still had a shutdown of the northern end of the line. I lived on Highland Av. and we had substitute buses taking us to Wellington. Here in Drexel Hill, PA, the Media and Sharon Hill trolleys were replaced by buses for 10 days starting when we moved here (last month). We were told to expect delays up to 15 minutes. For a service that mostly runs every half hour, that means basically that you never know when the bus is coming. By the way, we rode out to Media last week and nobody got on or off at Paper Mill Rd.

One time I had to ride a shuttle bus replacing a section of the DC metro yellow line that was under repairs. It was a confusing mess. Each bus was an "express line" to one of the four stations that was closed. So if you got on the wrong bus you were screwed. Quite a few people got hot under the collar trying to make sense of this mess. The bus itself was nice but it was going painfully slow crawling along at maybe two kilometers an hour in bumper to bumper DC rush hour traffic. I thought I would never get off that bloody bus. It took over an hour to get to the end of the line. A train would only have taken a few minutes. That's why DC built the metro in the first place. I don't know how Boston handles shut downs of the trains but DC is notorious for shutting down parts of the metro and replacing them with busses with little to no warning. I hope I never get caught up in something like that again.

The way Bunker Hill Community College and the attached station are laid out, with Rutherford and Austin St, means that northbound it does stop basically as close as it can to the station. But if anything it's *more* convenient, because this way it's stopping up against the back of the Whole Foods parking lot, which gives better pedestrian access into Charlestown - in regular times, both Community College and Sullivan are awkwardly placed for those trying to get into Charlestown, arguably a main service area for both. Of course, the southbound shuttle stops on the side closer to Community College, so you do have to take the pedestrian overpass (or cross the perilous Rutherford/Austin/Gilmore Bridge intersection) to get to/from Charlestown. Makes me long for the days of the Elevated through Thompson Square lmao

Well this is certainly better than the Yellow and Blue line shutdown in DC, where they had bus lanes already built for Metroway and didn’t use them. Supposedly it’s because drivers needed special training for the signal priority system for whatever reason, but the system doesn’t even work for the bus route that uses the lanes anyways. And they wouldn’t put detection loops to get the system to work before the shuttles started running. Metroway is its own joke of a “BRT” system anyways, but I won’t rant about its million problems here.

Note: USA outlets (like in this bus) are literally still as shocking as European outlets 100+ years ago (even the countries of the former Soviet-Union fixed this since late 1990s in most homes , adopting the current German standards) ... OMG it seems that your long haired buddy (BTW I as a male have long hair too, sometimes even 5+ cm longer^^) @ 0:50 belongs to the ones who love being lied to by the politicians ( & their meat-drones), because the black toy mask he uses (in blind beLIEving) is as useless as a floorcloth against ANY disease (I am educated in this stuff by the (compulsary) military 15+ years ago & by a job 8+ years ago) ...
