The Most Functional Exercise You Can Do

When I’m working with my students, I noticed that certain students will struggle with some of the basic movements, like laying down on the ground and getting back up.
If you or someone you know, is struggling with movements, like this, then the best exercises for you to do is simply to repeat, laying down onto the ground and getting back up. if you repeatedly do this exercise, you will get better at it, and this would improve the quality of your life dramatically.
Don’t worry about all the other fancy things that somebody asked you to do and just do the most basic things because these are the basic functional movements that you need to do to increase your quality of life. via @mikechangofficial

Yeah - most young people never realize they will also age. Sadly, it takes most people 20+ years to develop compassion, if ever.

@@BP-ry6mw I grew up around elderly people and have watched their steady declines since childhood. Now my own mother is 82, and she can’t do this, so I work on my mobility and range and just take things slowly when caring for her. Someday, it will be my turn.

Great clip! I am 68 and mostly OK. I discovered the truth of what you are saying when I recently got a futon (and started sleeping on the floor).. lol! The up and down to the floor was initially challenging (as was sleeping on such a firm surface), but with time and practice I did get stronger and feel better for it.. Always like you vids, thank you!

Thanks Mike for doing this video. It's very practical. I also tell people to not use a chair to get up from it but to use your own legs to get up from a chair. Also when you get out of your car do not use the door or grab anything to get our of your car. When you do this you depend on things and you will lose leg strength. Just turn your body to the left and use your legs to get out of a car. In this manner you keep your legs strong.

This is gratifying to see. I've made some workout sets for myself, with two exercises each for legs, arms, core, and mobility. One of the mobility exercises I set for myself was just getting up and getting back down. I was considering replacing it, but now I'll definitely keep it. As someone on the older side, I definitely can say that I wish I'd been doing something like this from back when my knees were more flexible.

Thank you for keeping in mind the bodies and abilities of the people who need motivation and instruction the MOST. Thank you, Mike. Good advice. Another exercise I have a habit of doing is standing & balancing on one foot for 30+ seconds & then standing & balancing on the other foot for 30+ seconds. It is a game now of seeing how long I can balance on one foot. The purpose is to prevent falls by becoming more sure footed on two feet.
