Should you go with the D780 over D750? The D780 has many upgraded features, but it’s also at a different price point. Which one has more value? It depends on what you’re going to use it for. You’ll see side-by-side footage from the d750 and d780 going over some of the upgraded features and who could benefit from each in this video.

One of the major upgrades on the D780 is its Autofocus system. When it comes to recording video the D780 is much easier to keep your subject in focus with its upgraded face tracking. With the D780 you’ll also have the option of recording 4k video up to 30 frames per second and outputs 10-bit N-log for more dynamic range when using an external HDMI recorder. So, if you’ll be shooting 4k video, there’s a lot to be excited for with the D780.
If video is important to you you’re going to love the D780 because of its better autofocus, 4k capabilities, and better battery life. It’s also great if you're a still photographer who shoots in extreme low light situations or if you need that higher continuous shooting speed and better autofocus for moving subjects.
On the other hand, the D750 is still a highly rated camera and will get you some amazing photos. It all depends on your budget and what you shoot.

I've got the D750, don't think I'll upgrade. Moving more towards the Z6, with its fabulous image quality and lightness (I'm 78), but still hanging on with the D750 because of the lens range...

Good review on both cameras. I've had the 750 since the day they were available. This camera continues to render excellent results for a regular Joe like me that is not into 4k video or extreme low light situations, etc. Based on the features you mentioned, they have little value for me therefore; I will remain with my old reliable 750. For a budget conscious individual, the 750 that has now been deeply discounted, it continues to offer a better value again for a regular Joe like me. Really enjoy your videos, Adam. I own a D750. Don't shoot lot of videos with it. D750 has pretty good low light performance. I'm seeing no reason to change. Will need more convincing :). Plus D780 doesn't have the Pop up flash which is very useful for portraits.

Best comparison video I’ve found, thanks! I may go for the D750- the current sale is really good. I want the D780 for the video AF, but I don’t do a lot of video, and I could probably put the saved cash towards an entry level mirrorless with 4K.

For all the videographers, is autofocus really a big upgrade? Has it helped you at all? I shot with d90 for videos and the autofocus, or lack of, ever was an issue. I’d love to hear feedback for those who truly benefited from the autofocus

For those with deep pockets, naturally will chose the new model, D780. Those with poverty issues will choose the D750 with price cuts. Nowadays all cameras have similar IQs in taking photos and any will do. The first step is how to get our hands on a camera.

All cameras have similar IQ in decent light. Ever tried D3500 at high iso? 750 isn't a poverty camera, its the best used bargain of any Nikon DSLR.

Recently I dropped my D800 and broke it leaving me with only my D 3. After much research, I chose the 780 0ve the D850 which has 3-year-old technology and will probably be upgraded soon. I am waiting for the 780 to arrive.

This is very nice video thank you. On the other hand as a D750 owner I would like to see 900sec. and 1/8000 exposure options and also focus stacking option that we don't have in D750 that you didn't mention at all. Warm regards from Istanbul.

I appreciate your feedback, Aydin Salur. You're right! The D750 tops out at 1/4000th of a second and having the ability to set the shutter speed to 900 seconds in the camera is great because now you don't need to buy a remote switch. Focus stacking is also a really neat feature that we saw introduced first on the D850. Should come in handy for landscape or product shots. Take care and thanks for watching.

It would be great to see how those lenses perform. My guess is that AF-D lenses would operate better on the D780 in LiveView with phase-detect AF over the D750's contrast based AF but they weren't designed with video AF in mind so you won't get that smooth focus transition as you would with some of the newer AF lenses.

D780 destroys the D850 in low light, and 25MP is the right resolution for almost every photographer. It's cheaper than D850 and now there's a dedicated AF On button too. Mirrorless? Nope, tried it a few times, doesn't do it for me.

Nice video, I came here to see if I should upgrade my D750 to D780, I dont do a lot extreme low light stuff, and dont really use my DSLR for video, so I think im going to stay with my D750 for now, if and when I upgrade I might move to the D810 instead ... but thats another 2 or 3 years away...

I'm upgrading from a D5200 and was thinking D750. But when your review mentioned the auto focus, now I'm hesitant. I shoot family and children portraits and the auto focus would be beneficial since some kids aren't the best at sitting still. Would you say that it's that superior in the D780 than the D750 to justify the price jump? I don't shoot movies and would rather save the money and spend on lens. And to go with that, which lens would you recommend purchasing for family portraits?

Hello Lauren Hebert. The AF in the D750 is more than suitable for the type of photography that you are doing. In regards to a lens, there are a variety of options that work great. It may depend somewhat on your working distance but we would recommend looking into a fast prime like either 35mm, 50mm, or 85mm. If you want something that's more versatile a 24-70 F2.8 would be a great option. Thanks for watching!

Hi, It is obvious that 750 doesn't have any advantages (except the price) over 780. But, I can't find enough benefits to buy 780 instead of Z6.

Hello C.A.. I would say that there are still shooters that prefer to use the optical viewfinder when shooting fast action. There have been huge improvements with EVF tech in the last few years, but there is still some slight delay with electronic viewfinders. Both are fully capable cameras (tools) that produce fantastic imagery and at the end of the day, it's a matter of personal preference. Thanks for watching!

I won’t be trading up. In fact since the 780 does not accept a grip it it does not support my hand held shooting technique; therefore I will stick with the 750.

Is panasonic the only brand that makes point&shoot cameras that can transfer images in background while they are being taken to skip the extra step of transferring the images later? Hello, Nancy Krause. If you are most interested in recording all the fine detail in the frame for large prints I would highly recommend going with the Nikon D850. Also, it's low light performance is very good considering the pixel count.

Hello Chafik Boumehdi. I'd say 100% yes, go with the D780 if you were interested in looking to use this to capture both stills and video. But it's more of a tough decision based solely on shooting stills. If you are on a tight budget and thinking about getting into a Nikon Z camera, later on, I might say get the D750 and put some money towards good glass (if you didn't have full-frame lenses at the moment). But it really depends on your needs.

Get a D750 unless video is your thing. Used ones cost very little leaving big money for lenses . Get a used 16-35 f/4 af-s and a used 70-200 f/2.8 with money saved.

Hello, Stephen Bates. Honestly, they both perform well for stills, and it may just come down to your budget. As I mentioned in the video, the D780 has a newer image processor and metering sensor which will provide you with better low light performance, AF tracking, better continuous shooting, and longer battery life. Will you notice a huge difference between the two when shooting stills? Not sure I could say yes on that. But if you were looking to do video in the future or shoot stills using the LiveView I would go with the D780.

Hello Mark Shirley. We haven't done an extensive testing with both cameras, but through the viewfinder both are capable of focusing down to -3EV with the central AF points. But, once liveview is activated, the D780 can focus down to -5EV. Just for reference, I believe -4EV is equivalent to nautical twilight. Thanks for watching!

You're welcome, Mark Shirley. Typically cameras that can write to both cards usually write the full resolution to one and a either a lower res or proxy file to the other. Are you concerned of reliability with SD memory?

@@DigitalGojaUSA I do get jobs when I think 'this really needs to be backed up'. I think it should be standard with bodies costing £2000. I have had issues with SD cards - I haven't yet lost data (fingers crossed) but I'd like to avoid that potential stress.

Sir one thing in d780 is there no backup option for video between 2 memory card?is that true then z6 is best option for video for its xqd card..(one slot but xqd cards are more safe) Bettery life is poor😒thats the only thing..maybe in wedding for photos 3 and for video 4-5 betterys

Correct. The D780 is only capable of recording video to one SD card with no option for backup. In regards to which memory card is more stable. XQD is theoretically more reliable than SD but with a good quality SD card and proper care and use you should be good. I always recommend having extra batteries on hand, no matter which camera. Especially for shooting events, you can't be crossing your fingers hoping that one battery will last you.

Recall means nothing. No big deal. You get a brand new shutter essentially giving you a brand new awesome camera after you’ve used the hell out of it. I don’t see what the issue is.
