CLIP DESCRIPTION:
After kidnapping the Princess (Robin Wright Penn), Vizzini (Wallace Shawn) gets angry when his men are reluctant to kill her.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on William Goldman's novel of the same name, The Princess Bride is staged as a book read by grandfather (Peter Falk) to his ill grandson (Fred Savage). Falk's character assures a romance-weary Savage that the book has much more to deliver than a simpering love story, including but not limited to fencing, fighting, torture, death, true love, giants, and pirates. Indeed, The Princess Bride offers a tongue-in-cheek fairy tale depicting stable boy-turned-pirate Westley's journey to rescue Buttercup (Robin Wright), his true love, away from the evil prince (Chris Sarandon), whom she had agreed to marry five years after learning of what she had believed to be news of Westley's death. With help from Prince Humperdinck's disgruntled former employee Miracle Max (Billy Crystal), swordsman Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin), and a very large man named Fezzik (Andre the Giant), the star-crossed lovers are reunited.
CREDITS:
TM & © MGM (1987)
Cast: Andr the Giant, Mandy Patinkin, Wallace Shawn, Robin Wright Penn
Director: Rob Reiner
Producers: Norman Lear, Rob Reiner, Andrew Scheinman, Jeffrey Stott, Steve Nicolaides
Screenwriter: William Goldman

@Bazzralic, yes, I miss him. Notice the goodhearted character he plays here, where you know he's only going along with Wallace's scheme because he needed a job. He mentions not wanting to kill an innocent girl, there's the way he playfully jokes around with his rhyming, and look at the way he starts backing up a few steps when Wallace (a guy literally half his size) is yelling at him about sending him back to being unemployed in Greenland

Yes, Andre's role was tailored perfectly for him, playing to all his strengths. Despite his back/health problems, you could tell he really was into it, and enjoyed the whole experience. Literally every actor who gets asked about him, has nothing but good and funny stories to share.

I think the roll actually was written for him. or atleast when they decided to do the movie, they basically said "Andre the Giant." and nothing else. The character was created based on him, and then he was cast as the character he was based on. It's on one of the interviews or something.

You should see Cary Elwes' story about Andre's monumental fart that he had their first day of filming together (The castle mostly-dead parapet scene was the first scene they were both in, hence the first time they worked together. At least that's how I remember it being described).

This scene does not get enough credit, or if it does, it's for the wrong reasons. In less than two and a half minutes, this establishes the characters of Vissini, Fezzik and Inigo and informs how people will think of them throughout the story. It's a masterpiece of characterisation.
@811chelseafc
@811chelseafc Жыл бұрын
And none of its is through clunky exposition. Vissini rambling about how he found them makes total sense in context. And with one line each (“you didn’t say anything about killing anyone” and “I agree with Fezzik”) the two heroes on the boat are established as good guys.

And they're supposed to be the "bad guys"but really they are hired guns, who don't want to hurt the poor princess. They've no doubt had to do bad things in the revenge biz, yes, but they won't stoop to killing an innocent woman. But yeah, I love when they do their rhymes together, that's when we fall in love with these characters even though they work for the villainous Vizzini.....

My sister and I saw Carey Elwes at a Fan Expo and he told the story of how he was injured during his fencing scene in Princess Bride. Apparently Andre had his own Golf Cart and driver, and every day for a week he kept passing Carey's trailer in the morning and offered him a ride. Finally on the day before they shot the scene, Carey agreed, and then crashed the cart into a wall and injured himself. Fortunately, the director was accommodating and they managed to do the scene in a way that was beneficial for Carey to not strain his injury. Later that day, my sister went to get his autograph and he noticed her injury (she had a broken arm) and signed her support brace!

Once the fishing fleets were put out business because of the decimated overfished Atlantic- Arctic seas - that essentially killed Greenlands - Iceland's - New Brunswick - Nova Scotia - fishing industries and canneries. All the Cannery cities are now abandoned ghost towns with abandoned fishing fleets in the harbors. So YES - in Greenland - there wouldn't be much to do except hunt seals, and possibly mine or work at the secret US -Canadian-UK military base there.

For me as 12 year old, this, Labyrinth, Conan the Barbarian (edited for TV), Blade Runner (ditto) and Dune (also for TV, so the Alan Smithee version) were the tops. What I only learned many years later is that this was from the same guy who made This is Spinal Tap, When Harry Met Sally, and so many other great, but very different movies. And with age, Princess Bride, well, and Blade Runner, really stand the test of time. Reiner made magic out of his cast, who could of looked at Andre the Giant and thought, yeah, that's the actor I need in my movie which will go down as one of the great classics!
