I’m gonna tell you what happened to a friend of mine. He dated a girl for 5 years and She moved in with him. He bought her dream home when they got engaged. It was a really expensive and nice home. So a year later after they planned a huge marriage. It was an expensive wedding. They had everything in order. He loved this girl to death and would die for her. So a week before the wedding, she comes up to him and says she’s leaving him and that she’d been cheating on him the whole time, and that she’s found another man, and leaves him there. He lost thousands of dollars from that wedding. He eventually lost the dream home. He lives in a small apartment now, has bad suicidal depression, and hasn’t had a gf since her because he doesn’t trust women other than a couple friends. The man is most likely gonna die alone :(

I learned young, that marriage was simply asking to completely ruin your life. Even as a child, I knew of not a single solitary example of a marriage which was not a veritable nightmare. I commissioned myself to remain unmarried. Thank You God. I can surely see I made no mistake. Why would a person get married in the first place, I could never understand that; marriage belongs only in storybooks. I certainly never regretted it. I like how my friends got married. If a woman tells you she wants to get married because you make her "happy" that's a red flag. Why? I’m a married woman and strangely enough I believe that men have little incentive to get married. My husband has been divorced a few times before and it’s given me insight into the inequality and sexist nature of divorce court. I agreed to sign a prenup so that in the (God forbid) event of a divorce, I wouldn’t take his pension that his ex tried to take. We were married in the 70's and because we were both students 18 and 20 yrs old we had more or less a free wedding. The guests prepared their own food for the reception! The modern idea for a marriage and why lots of people want to get married is because it's essentially a contract to make it hard to just walk away providing stability and making it so you have to be open and work through things avoiding the hardships of a divorce is a good incentive to work things out together, not that you need that structure necessarily as plenty of couples do this without being married but some people need the structure and some like me just love the idea of have a special day with someone you love and having it as official as it could be between you both, plus the structure helps relieve anxiety about not knowing exactly how my partner feels about our relationship because no matter how much she says stuff to me that's reassuring nothing will beat a legally bound contract to relieve anxieties
