Science says revenge might not be so sweet. Swiss researchers wanted to know what happens in the brain when someone reaps revenge. Watch this video to find out more about the psychology of revenge.

For me Revenge is a constant relief. I feel good and after the fact I no longer care about whatever happens and often forget it even happened. Unless I didn't get revenge then I will constantly hate and hate unless I do something to hurt them. Then I'll be fine.

you CAN still give justice to correct a person without exactly enacting the self harm of revenge........doing so means you must understand what EXACTLY will shape a person into the mould you are trying to project them into If moms can teach kids how to act via a time out or punishment.....it IS possible to do the same with a criminal. You don't need to use revenge to give out justice. Justice can lack hate, its easy honestly.

This video makes revenge sound completely unhealthy, but doesn't account for why it is such a universal emotion, not just among humans but many social mammals. Natural selection is pretty ruthless with behaviors that only cause problems. Yeah, taking revenge can cause cycles of retaliation, but turning the other cheek can also encourage chronic abuse.
@thundavolt

You don't need to turn the other cheek. If someone has really wronged you, you just keep it moving if you can't reason with them.
@joemama-js6hv

@@thundavolt I agree with you. It's really sad to see so many people always seeing only the two options when more often than not there are plenty. As you potentially implied, just ignoring what happened and moving on is the ideal way. Besides just strengthening your self control, it leaves the other person in confusion - confusion = makes people think. Simple. Now the people in the comments who claim revenge to be the optimal way of coping with their mental instability, are not only unstable but also mentally defficient.

I got revenge in many ways in my life. I learned that there are three kinds of revenge. The first kind is they know you did it to them. The second kind is they know something happened but they don't know who did it. And the third kind which is surprisingly my favorite is you know you got revenge but they don't even know anything happened. The moral of the story is if you treat people poorly without dignity and respect well don't be surprised if there is a reprisal.

@@GrecoCalabrese because regardless of the reason and intent it still takes up time and recources and the only gain is emotional gain and if the reason you are doing is to make yourself feel better then I can only see 2 outcomes 1 it ends up making you feel good in the moment but not in the long run or 2 you feel good in the long run. But you messed up your moral compass. Also I haven't heard of. A case where someone was depressed, they exacted revenge on someone and felt good in the long term. But I really can't see a way something that takes up the resource of time and usually to get the good feeling you take more time (and more preparation) for a slight emotional benefit logical.

@@cosmikpowa3133 Perhaps English is not your first language, but hypocrisy usually refers to one doing something that they accuse others of doing as immoral. In the case of making sure nothing happens in retaliation as a result of taking revenge, that is more to avoid a situation of your actions causing a kind of back and forth and opportunity for retaliation, which would defeat the whole purpose of taking revenge in the first place, assuming the reason was to react to some kind of unprovoked misdeed.

Im a huge believer in Karma. An ex wronged me about 18 months ago to provoke a reaction. Old me would've reacted and gotten revenge. But I'm a mum now. So, to set a good example and as hard as it was, he got no reaction from me. Then a month later I found out karma paid him a visit in a big way. That was more satisfying then anything I could've done. Left me smiling for days and I have happily moved on since then 😊

they always talk about how revenge will eat you up inside or it will somehow hurt yourself. Then again how often does someone get hurt so bad that they would seek revenge. To let abuse go unpunished can allow them to continue that abuse on you or someone else. One must ask the question if what if your enemy had done the same thing to someone else as they did to you. Would you care as much. Some times perhaps revenge is necesary to bring justice for what has been done to you aswell as what has been done or may be done to someone else.

I don’t know why people feel the need to try to stop someone from being angry and wanting revenge when they weren’t the one that was wronged and mistreated. I have a human right to feel anger and want revenge. So if I can believe God created me to be happy, upset, angry, depressed, glad, and those other emotions then he get me when I want to see revenge. He knows I’m not perfect so I’m ok with sweet none regretful revenge. Always gotta be an eye for an eye.

Guys, help me with something I was in a class and I needed to leave earlier. As soon as I stood up the teacher said "hey!". I imediatly knew he was talking to me but wouldnt raise my head because I was embarrassed. He repeated in an angry tone "hey! You there!". I had to look at him, then he Said "whats your name?" I answered in a low tone "Gabriel". Then he screamed while Turning his face against me "GABRIEL"! indicating he would not give me presence that day. I left the class feeling horrible, a coward, extremwly embarrassed. I believe that is the problem with revenge. Sometimes we misinterpret what is going on and act angry toward someone we think did something wrong but actually didnt. The teacher thought I was lazy or was trying to take advantage of him but it was not the case. Do you guys think he was too harsh or he was right to call me out? I am not against revenge. The most amazing thing that a person can do is to find the courage and strength to forgive. That is how your soul is kept pure and innocent. It is also something very rare nowadays. Revenge gets you nowhere, actually it infects your own soul with evil. Avoid a toxic person, of course, and keep him away, but instead of hating him, you should rather feel truly sorry for him and pity him for his rotten soul and mind. There is nothing in him to be jealous of, but rather to feel sorry for him. Loving your enemies is the superior moral level and it is acheivable!

Eventually your forgiveness and patience runs out. That Christ guy was alright and if EVERYONE did what he said, revenge would never be necessary. The whole do unto others thing. Even he ran out of patience with people. When he got a little violent to the money changers in the temple, he also knew some times it takes action to get them to learn. What's this jealousy crap about? Personally I've never been jealous of someone who's a piece of crap. I believe you never commit an act against someone unless they first commit an act against you. It's ALWAYS wrong to hurt innocent people. Provocation brings on revenge, otherwise it's live and let live.

i really dont get it about how people behave... they easily hurt others without second thought , yet when their victims fight back / getting revenge the bullies making a huuuuuge fuss about it. If dont want to feel pain , just dont be casually inflicting it...

Then, why did the revenge desire even evolved in our psyche i the first place if it will bring more problems?
@riiddisbuk2496
@riiddisbuk2496 3 жыл бұрын
Because evil must be punished. The only reason why "justice" doesn't create more problems is because it has men loaded with power. Take that away, and you have a judge who righteously sentenced any criminal killed on the spot by the defendant's family members.

She is bullshitting. But also revenge doesnt have to be for emotional reasons. It has practical ones. So we need it

You say that as if humankind's evolution has necessarily led it to become more practical and efficient in every way possible. Being the byproduct of your environment is not necessarily a good thing.

this video is 100% wrong. Revenge makes your life better, period. Opposite of that would be not getting revenge, which results in your wounds never healing.

I have the ability to time travel. Over my "lifetime", I have tortured, murdered and killed my wrong-doers multiple times ranging from petty indiscretions (Cutting me off in traffic) to full blown serious crimes. The joy I have experienced while suffering zero consequences has been tantamount to nirvana. Obviously engaging in such endeavours eventually becomes tiresome after the 700th murder of the same person. These days I'm pretty chill and for the most part, unflappable.

You've committed more than 700 murders and have gotten away with it, meanwhile an innocent person who just cut you in traffic had to suffer through an agonious death, possibly hundreds of times. Wonder who's the bad guy.
