Hi friends, happy Monday!
Albert Fish went by a lot of names: Ham and Eggs, The Grey Man, The Boogeyman. Also Albert wasn’t even his real name, it was Howard. But one name he for sure needed was monster. What do you guys think of Albert?
Also, let me know who you want me to talk about next time. Hope you have a great rest of your week, make good choices and I'll be seeing you very soon
xo

My dad was sent to an orphanage in the 30's. He never said he was mistreated. But he was placed there in the middle of the night, so he didn't know he was going. He just woke up in a sea of beds. His mom kept his sister. The saddest part to me was in the yard he could see his aunts house and stood there all day by the fence waiting to come and get him😢 His grandma finally came and got him once she found out he was there. He turned out to be a wonderfully man and father. He passed last year.

Same with my dad in about the same time frame. His father left the family and his mother couldn't support them. It was much more common back in the day before we had social safety nets in place (so to speak). Luckily, my dad remembers that time fondly and his mother was eventually able to come and get him and his siblings when she remarried.

They haven’t changed that much. They transport kids during the night so they’re too sleepy to express discontentment about what’s going on. Case managers and whatnot don’t want to deal with the emotional portions of the ordeal, they just want to be paid… so they leave it for the foster parents or orphanages (the call them “group homes” now) to deal with.

@Kay There is an ENDLESS amount of info on orphanages from the early 20th century & before. Especially as there have been many law suits brought against orphanages. The worst were for Native American children being taken from their family & customary life & thrown into these huge boarding houses for “education” - really assimilation. There was a lot of abuse, many “missing” kids, found sometimes within the mass graves unmarked of Native children on the property of the house. If you can read you can find so much about all of this.

My mom was put in an orphanage when she was about 7 with two of her sisters. She always said it was the best time of her childhood, because it was clean and they had food to eat. Her mother was incredibly abusive. My mother spent her whole adult life working as a daycare provider, she loved children and said it was because of her time at the orphanage. She was a beautiful person, when she passed away last year, so many of her “kids” came to her funeral and it really hit me, how many lives she touched. ❤

All cases are very sad, but it’s so different when it’s about children. You have to be a different kind of evil, messed up person to do these things to poor babies. Poor baby, I wish someone found him and he had a different outcome.

Imagine if we had more empathy for people instead of thinking life is so hard. like our world used to be far more censored. we say a lot of words today in casual conversation that would have caused us to lose our jobs and social standing like 20 to 30 years ago. Oh man....stories like this hit so different before and after becoming a parent. I heard this story presented on a different podcast before I got pregnant and I remember thinking it was a super messed up story, but listening to it again with a 1 year old son has me completely emotionally destroyed for days. The one bright side is that I now have a much shorter answer for why I don't trust baby sitters, daycares, or even public school with my child's safety. Albert Fish the real life boogeyman is why I trust nothing and no one with my child until he's big enough to fight for himself. Do your own research if you want to know more, I recommend starting with Bailey Sarian's KZfaq episode on the subject. Maximum information with minimum horror and I appreciate the periodic warnings and apologies. "This is gonna be rough, I"m so sorry you guys." Thank you Bailey. If YOU, of all people, is saying it's rough, then I better go get my blankie and my teddy bear before I listen to any more of this.

And she managed to tell it with her lovely personality always there in the background. I know, I couldn't help but feel so sad for her family, like wondering what happened for years, probably making some peace with it eventually only to have it come kicking and screaming in their faces again. So incredibly sick

I have a pretty tough stomach for stuff like this. I’m able to kind of disassociate from it. But this story really upset me and the details were horrific. I cannot imagine the pain those babies went through. 😢

Honestly mad props to you Bailey, you deserve a break after covering this case. Albert Fish is one of those cases where you just lose a little faith in humanity reading, those poor babies didn't deserve to die like they did. Rest in peace to those children. As a small side note here, there's a musician on the platform named Steam Pianist who mostly makes vocaloid music. Many years ago they released this song called Secrets of Wysteria, which is loosely inspired off the story of Albert Fish. Very creepy song with very creepy visuals, but the scariest part was that part of the song, if you listen to it backwards, reveals the passages of that letter Albert sent to Grace's family Obviously they didn't make the song to glorify Albert Fish, I don't want anyone to throw hate at them, I actually really like the song and it's really interesting how much thought went into making it. If you want a creepy song or some more nightmare fuel, I would say give it a listen

It’s probably bc as a mother of little boys, I just cannot fathom my babies being in this kind of danger and going through these kinds of horrible acts... but this may be the first ever episode that I almost couldn’t make it through. Barely made it through Billy’s story. 😔😭💔

It’s a horrible, sad, gruesome story, but I would love to hear your take on Michelle Knotek. She was apparently released from prison last year and her daughters are terrified she’ll hurt more people

Tbh I hope she never covers this one. I read the book by Gregg Olsen and the whole story was just awful. That woman shouldve been sentenced to death, not given a chance to harm others again.
