Do you procrastinate?
We often assume that procrastination is a sign that we’re being ‘lazy’ or ‘can’t be bothered’.
And while we’re all working from home, procrastination could be prevention you from getting through what you need to.
According to research, there could be another explanation for why we procrastinate…
Instead or reflecting issues of ‘self’-management (which is what we assume), it could actually reflect challenges associated with emotional regulation.
This is important not only for us and managing our own lives, but also when leading or managing teams, running our own business or looking to motivate family or friends. Instead of assuming someone's just 'lazy', we could instead reflect on whether they're struggling on an emotional level.
• What are your thoughts about procrastination?
• Are you finding you’re doing more of it while working from home?
• What strategies do you use to help you push through?

NOTE: Procrastination and laziness are two different states. You can be both lazy and a procrastinator. Procrastination is an active process of choosing to do something else instead of what you 'should' be doing. Laziness is linked to apathy and an unwillingness to act. It's an intrinsic unwillingness to put in the effort to achieve your goals. Being clear on what they are still doesn't excuse bad behavior. . Another way of looking at this - I procrastinate with housework but I easily work 7 days week on my business almost all year round. Doesn't make me lazy. I just don't enjoy house work. More reasons you procrastinate & how to overcome them here 😊: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o9ucp5WH0dPZnac.html

This is so crazy because it’s so true, now that I can reflect within myself after learning that procrastination is from an Emotional discrepancy. Mine is the opposite, I know that if I move forward with my success, once I become successful within a few months of finally “pushing the flashing Button” that will initiate my success, I will leave my GF bc she has no ambition for her own goals. So I’ve been procrastinating getting on with my success. I’m holding myself back on purpose, you could say and I’ve been trying to rip off the bandaid for a while now. I’ve known this about our dynamic, but it’s very interesting to confirm this internal conflict. This is spot on.

Awesome video! It's basically mostly fear (of unwanted outcome) in most cases. At least for me... I just power through it with a simple tactic nowadays. As I know the fear (urge to procrastinate) is the strongest before starting or in the very beginning of doing the task, I use my "cold water" approach. I call it that way because it reminds me of entering cold water/sea/lake/whatever... It's the best (but the hardest) to just jump right in and not to analyse too much. It will be terrible for a few seconds, but soon you'll be swimming and the water won't seem so cold anymore. The same is with the "scary" task - just grind through the initial stage and it won't seem so scary anymore. Our minds trick us so often.

You hit the nail on the head here…for me it’s fear of not being able to accomplish the task and a negative outcome if it is not achieved. Thanks for the perspective!

Let me add something 😊 to it - there's nothing which is perfect, we all have evolved to be better than what we were according to our resources and mental capabilities. everytime we have come up with new ideas and new solutions to get better, upgrading ourselves for new challenges. I love this. It strips the guilt and self loathing that is attached to the concept of procrastination from it and activates the possibility to overcome it. To take the emotional aspect away from a problem opens up the solution.

To be fair she does have a point. Sometimes we feel no enthusiasm towards said task or we lose enthusiasm as a result of self doubt. So when you have said task, find reasons to value its importance and do it. PS just procrastinated and proved her points. 😌

@floppa floppovich are you so insecure that you attack people with chemical imbalances like honestly what did you hope to accomplish with this comment in addition to that legalized cocaine as you call it is sometimes the difference between life and death now i will not argue that there are no risks in taking these medications but for some it really is the reason they can function and not because they are addicted so for you to make that comment was not only unecessary but ignorant as well I hope you get help if you need it and be well
