DESCRIPTION
The Russian Bind Off is a way of finishing your work, securing your stitches at the end of your project so that it doesn't unravel. The difference that makes the Russian Bind Off special is that it uses a more efficient method of performing the knitted bind off, by knitting two together at a time instead of having to pass so many stitches over. This is also a loose and very stretchy bind off.

I always have trouble of passing over the slipped stitch over, this technique sure takes away that difficulty and dropping stitches while binding off. Thanks a lot, appreciate all your tutorials :)

THis has to be the most difficult way I have ever seen anyone do a Russian bind off. In Russian knitting, we k2tog, slip back to main needle and k2 tog again. Simple . As our stitches face the opposite way on the needle to western stitches, your stitch would simply be a ssk2 tog. So slip first 2 stitches one at a time knitwise to change the direction they face.Insert left needle in both stitches and knit tog. Slip the next stitch knitwise and k2 tog.........

Lol amen. Compared to Russian, the english/western knitting style looks so violent and overcomplicated that Americans literally call continental knitting "speed knitting" like it's some sort of party trick prestidigitation and not just simple efficiency.

@@petagirlpo Weird to say "western"... most of the "western" countries knit continental. It's just the Americans and the British who "throw".

Very nice bind-off: attractive and with some stretch to it. Works great for the shawl I'm finishing. I can see where it might be a little difficult if someone knits very tightly, tho.

@kirsten07734 6 жыл бұрын
Papa An5elo it's stockinette stitch but the yarn used has a bias so the individual knit stitches aren't perfectly symmetrical. The left leg is vertical and the right leg of each stitch leans to the right further than usual but it's still stockinette stitch. The bias is created in the spinning process, not the knitting. You would get a similar effect knitting stockinette with a singles (yarn with only one "ply").

You didn't show us the finished edge, nor demonstrate how stretchy it is. How it looks, and how it works, are as important as how to do it. Why will I choose to do it, if I don't know the answer to those two questions?
@yarnistco
@yarnistco 5 жыл бұрын
Well we do spend almost a minute showing the finished edge in the beginning of the video. It's not really meant to be stretchy, but I think you get an idea of how it looks during the intro.
