To be fair, Mike Brown wasn’t the only thing that changed last season. The addition of Sabonis, Monk, and Murray was what ended the drought. Mike Brown coached them to the playoffs last season but he also failed to build on that this season despite the injuries. He is a stubborn veteran coach stuck in his ways with questionable lack of adjustments. Make him earn it this season because he might just be what Mark Jackson was to the warriors. The right coach to lay the foundation but not the one to bring it all the way home. No need to jump the gun and put him on a pedestal. Make him earn it this season.

Thank you, Matt, this video made me feel so much better about Mike Brown's situation. You don't apply leverage to somebody if you don't want to reach a deal with them - it's sounding to me like Mike Brown wants a deal with Sacramento, it's just that he's willing to make sure he gets the best deal possible.

Classic Kings media, making everything a way bigger deal than it needs to be. The fact the Kings have in fact had extension talks means they want to keep Brown but currently disagree on the deal. Brown has another season to show he deserves the contract he’s asking for. 🤦‍♂️

This team under-achieved this year in some really ugly ways. The losses weren't shooting slumps by star players, or individual lapses, it was the Kings coming out too often not wanting to play. That's a team-wide problem, that's a morale problem, which points to Brown. There is enough talent on this team to not lose to the Pelicans six times, for instance. Brown just didn't begin to tap into the potential of this roster. I'd be more than happy to see Brown go.

Brown got zero upgrades to the roster and improved our defensive rating from 22 to 16. That sounds like the GM needs to do his job.

@@cqaguilarMike Brown is the one who said he believed they can CONTEND FOR THE TITLE THIS SEASON. He was happy with the roster. Have you forgotten he believed they could contend this season? Sounds like if anything, MB begged Monte to run it back. And no, MB did NOT improve the defensive rank from 22 to 16 - they were stuck at around 23rd defense at the allstar break which is only 1 spot better than last year and the defensive rating shot up only after MB was forced to play Keon Ellis (arguably the Kings best defender) big minutes due to guard injuries. MB gave Keon about 15 DNPs in the 20 games leading up to the allstar break because coach Brown has very poor judgment, like his belief that they could contend for the title this year with this roster that he apparently loves

Does not come out of the salary cap or your pocket. So pay him market value. We have 10 winning season in Sacramento and Mike Brown coached 2 of those 10. We need stability.

It’s hard to win in the Playoffs man, This thing is a process, the Kings need to keep Brown and let him finish developing the winning culture he has brought to the organization. The fact the Kings are in a hunt for a playoff spot and actually got in the playoffs is phenomenal and the Kings need to just pay him and extend him and not turn this into another Michael Malone situation cause we all know what happen to him in Denver he has a Ring.

In some ways, why shouldn't we compare the potential MB contract to what the Pistons gave Monty Williams? If they lose Mike, especially THIS way, they absolutely will have to severely overpay a quality coach just to get someone to take the job.

Vivic needs to not weigh in playoff success to the equation. Instead look at ticket prices and ticket sales both of which have skyrocketed since Mike Brown changed the culture. Pay the man 10 k n lock him up.

I don't think it's the Kings.. definitely the Kings want him but MB might be asking too much than he is worth. We really don't know how much is Mike asking. I think we need to look at the other side of the coin.

Ive been ignoring the whole injury excuse thing I've had to unfortunately listen to from the Bucks and Knicks but the absolute truth Is that: Indiana were 4-1 against Milwaukee WITH Giannis this year AND they won the season series against New York and won by 15 WITH both Brunson AND Randle. They beat Miami, Boston, Philly, Sacramento this year WITHOUT Tyrese. Were 4-0 against OKC and Dallas. Beat both the Lakers and Clippers by 20 points. Beat New Orleans WITH Zion. Were up 20 points In the FIRST HALF. Won 8/9 after they moved Garbage Buddy Hield out the starting lineup BEFORE the Siakam trade. I know this is a kings podcast I only left this comment because I listened to the closing statements. Pacers have been to 9 eastern conference finals since 1994. EASILY could be up 3-1 against Boston right now who I GUARANTEE will beat Dallas in the finals. GUARANTEE. So even if they repeat what they did this year next year they'll still get hated on. Pacers have been without 18ppg Mathurin this entire playoff series and their other lottery pick Is 19 years old in Jarace Walker. Tyrese Is one of those players opposing teams love to hate. Just like Reggie Miller was. It is what it is

Mike Brown isn’t the problem, whoever made the decision to keep Fox should be fired. If you can’t hit free throws you are not a star. Should have kept Halliburton and built around him. The roster is soft, no true toughness and shooting is extremely streaky.

my man sounds like the wife defending the abusive husband Mike Brown has had his up and downs in his career losing to a Pelicans team (an average team at best) 6x in a season is enough to doubt his extension imo. Im glad Kings are not in rush to pay him and weighing all options. The ownership are doing a great job increasing its value, but ultimately its winning that creates the revenue not just Mike Brown..they have a large loyal fanbase and they deserve more. NBA coaches is the most shortest leash job these days and we are seeing more and more younger coaches becoming successful. As currently constructed Kings will have another ok season but as long as they keep this lineup and coaching strategy we are not going anywhere. Dallas is a good example of how a mediocre team made adjustments to lineup and thats what Kings should do too.

Love the first part of your take. I actually think that Monte has given Mike the pieces that he needs to thrive though. Mike just mismanages them in my opinion. Case in point... Malik is a starter. Fox should be in more pick and rolls. The dribble hand off is too predictable. Etc

WTF Monte and Vivek?!? Mike Brown can't make free throws for the team. And he can only motivate them so much on defense. Plus, if Brown is a factor in keeping Monk, why wouldn't you do all you can to keep him?

Mike Brown is totaly responsible for for the rgresion the last season !let him go ,or make him pay for ticket at least .What coach is that to watch how the team is losing so many 20 points lead and doing nothing .So many games 6 players making more then 30 min ,whith so deep bench ?No suprise Malik was injured ,and yes he is responsible afcorse!

You're simplistic view of what changed is comical. You say 16 years of losing Alvin gentry Apologizing for the way to team plays. And then they have two winning seasons and what changed? UMM Let's see, Sabois Monk Lyles Murray Huerter. Pretty much the whole goddamn roster. Monte gave him the number one rated offense in Nba history Which only took him one year to make mid. Then crush Huerter piss off Monk. Continue to run a dribble handoff Offense that anyone in their grandma can figure out how to negate Even though you have a dynamic point guard. Who if you ran pick and rolls with like every other team that's in the playoffs right now. Instead of the tired boring dribble hand offs. To answer your question, what changed? Monte Changing the whole g****** roster is what changed. I don't care if they keep brown or not, but to act like a low tier Career journeyman assistant coach is pat riley absurd. And on another note you continuing to blame Monte For not getting Brown players that work with his system. It's not the indictment on Monte you think it is. It's an indictment on brown. The mark of a good coach is To adjust to the players you have not the other way around

Great take on the situation here. I'll add that watching Mike Brown get thoroughly out coached vs. the Warriors in the playoffs and then failing to even make the playoffs the very next year is definitely a reason to pause on a massive extension and really think things through. If I'm Vivek, I leave this 100% in Monte's hands and stay the hell out of it.
