A poor 18th century English coastal farming community survives the King's ruinous taxes thanks to a smuggling ring created by its masked leader called the Scarecrow. The ring's success leads King George to order the Royal Army's General Pugh to capture and execute the ringleaders. It is a battle both of wits and action that the Scarecrow must win to save not only his own life but those of the men he leads while keeping the vital smuggling operation running. The miniseries version was originally shown on the Disney anthology television series and shown again, unedited, in the 1990's on the Disney Channel.
I do not own the writes they belong to Walt Disney himself and his company.

This is one of my very favorite Disney Movies, I watched this as a child in the 1960's and never ever forgot it and loved it whenever it played again. Patrick McGoohan was wonderful in the part and I developed such a crush on him, LOL. I wish they made movie's like this again at the Disney Studio's for television. It was great being able to watch The Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights.. There wasn't any filthy language, no major violence, no graphic bloodshed, and it was shows everyone in the family could watch.

According to what I read, the first episode played opposite the Beatles' first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show. I watched that. So, 60 years later, I am watching this series. I've become obsessed with Patrick Mcgoohan. I'm watching the Danger Man series and almost finished with it. It's on KZfaq as well as several of his other films. Of course, there is "The Prisoner" also available on KZfaq. Be seeing you.

I love watching this too. I would always go outside and play like I was the Scarecrow, even trying to do his laugh as I was running as fast as I could like I was riding a horse. Those were great days, I missed them.

During the early 1960s it was a treat to watch Disney's Wonderful World of Color on Sunday evenings. I was just six years old when the three episodes of The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh were first televised. Seeing them again brings back all the excitement, tension, and adventure I felt from viewing them as a child. Patrick McGoohan was a perfect choice for the role.

It's been a long time since I've seen this movie, not since I was a kid. Fond memories of Sundays evenings, it's one of my favorites; a true Disney classic. Patrick McGoohan was superb in bringing Dr. Syn to life. Cool under pressure, thorough in his strategies, and that haunting cackle of the Scarecrow... ghoulish and frightening. It scared the Hell out of everyone, me too. I loved it, thank you for this sir.

Thank you for posting this, I've probably commented a few times before but this is one of my favorites shows. This film is the show piece of an era when millions gathered around the TV on Sunday night to see another great Disney creation. I remember watching Scarecrow on Sunday night when I was young, such fond memories. Watching this again brings me back to my youth, to a time when Disney made such great films. The background music is classic, you just don't hear this any more. I too wish they would release a remastered version of improved quality but all the same the quality of the film as it is speaks to the time in which the film was made which is part of it's character.

I love how Dr. Syn can keep his cool even when things are looking dangerous. That's why he can keep ahead of the General, not just his ability to use his position to gain useful information. I also love how he takes the effort to make himself look like a victim of the Scarecrow, whether as the Scarecrow or himself. Even if the men are forced to speak, only Johnny and Mr. Nips know who's behind the mask, but I can understand his desire to reduce all risk to himself and the people who work for him.
@c.a.g.3130

Actually, the reason he can stay so cool is because he has read the script and knows that the General, et al., are just paid actors and will do what they are supposed to.

Scarecrow, The Swamp Fox with Leslie Nielsen, and the Davy Crockett episodes with Fess Parker and Buddy Ebsen were childhood viewing for sure. Disney didn't make a separate Davy Crockett series, and wouldn't sell the rights, so Fess Parker was picked to star as Daniel Boone with Ed Ames as Mingo, as a Davy Crockett "copy" show on NBC.

A non-sailor was unlikely to be press ganged, a gentleman would simply not have been press ganged. Also a press ganged deserted wouldnt actually be hanged he'd just be returned to service. A voluntary sailor would however be hanged for desertion.
