With some illnesses and a failing computer, I have been off the Internet for a while and just enjoying life in Yangon. On this day, however, I decided to take my camera with me as I went to visit one of the most famous pagodas in the city.
The Botataung Pagoda is unique in that the main structure is not sealed. It is open and has been converted into a small museum. Unlike at Sule and Shwedagon pagodas, all visitors can go inside the main structure.
This pagoda was also almost completely destroyed during World War II by an accidental bombing run by the RAF. During the reconstruction, a hidden relic room was discovered, and the treasures they found are now on display.
Cheers,
Douglas (AKA The Cycling Canadian)

Lovely video, and it brings back happy memories of my visit to Yangon. I totally agree with you about the rubber matting. I love Myanmar, the Burmese people are easy going, no stress whatsoever. I love the culture, and of course, the food. May Lord Buddha bless the Burmese people always.

It is indeed a relief, seeing you back vlogging in your unique way. It has been mind boggling thinking of what could be happening to you Douglas. Sorry to hear of your relentless bouts of illness. Glad you have overcome it and got back your routine. As they say, "Shaken but not Stirred". You certainly are back to your goodself. It appears that you are now in a more affluent part of Yangon. Take care and enjoy the vibes of the vicinity. Cheers.

Your videos are very good. I like it that you take your time in saying exactly what you think as you experience the sights you visit. That gives your videos an aspect of authenticity and make them interesting, enabling the viewer to participate in your experience as well. Thank you!

Nice coverage again of the one of the most visited pagodas in Yangon. Regarding the dimming of Gopro during shooting , you can go to Preference then Screen Saver then NEVER or MAXIMUN MINUTES AVAILABLE on your camera. I choose NEVER as I connect it to my Feiyu Tech G6 which provides power to the camera. Also , Brightness level should be set to about 50 % for a nice view in the sun. Again , thanks for taking troubles shooting lovely videos for us.

Very well presented, well shot Travelog ; the majority of broadcast commercial travel programs that I've seen in my life were not as interesting or clearly narrated as this . . . About the "Bali Belly," research shows that when you boil shrimp [Shellfish} at 380* for 40 mins, there are still live bacteria under the shell. . . 2 drops of iodine in the coffee . . .

You are back again ! Welcome back !! You damn handsome and nosy Canuck! The word "Bo" have 3 different meaning one have different spelling than the other two. 1st "Bo" = Someone who have authority over a group of people or place. 2st "Bo" = White people (Which i assume derived from the 1st original one in First British-Burma War because the every White British are officer of some sort in the invasion army mostly made up of Indians) 3rd "Bo" = Rank of the Captain in Army (Which i also "assume" that took after the Bo of white people because Officer = Bo. It can added to other verbs like "Gyoke" (kuteral meaning holding together tightly or sewing) and form the word "Bo Gyoke" which can translate straight to General. So, the name of the pagoda Botahtaung is likely to be 1000 chiefs. Have fun !

Botataung Pagoda is really popular with Thai tourists. There is a Mya Nan Nwe Nat shrine right across from the entrance and Bo Bo Gyi shrine (a Guardian spirit of the Pagoda) inside the compound where they came to pray and make wishes for health and prosperity.

Actually its for walking on it when raining just in case of slippery surface. Now (May, June) is the start of the monsoon season in Myanmar so they prepare it ahead. That 29th day is sunny but after that there r series of rainy days.

Yea Bo can mean general and Tataung mean thousand. Didn't know why it is called Thousand General but it is pretty cool. Hmm yea, to get more money from tourist i guess, foreigners had to pay way more than locals.
@miemo7126

I think foreigners have to pay entrance fees because unlike the locals who always put donations inside, foreigners tend to not do that and they use those money for the upkeep of those pagodas
