I agree the most important aspect is a green card.. The cultural aspect is a big thing as well because when you come to another country,it automatically means you need or rather should be able to welcome their culture which is at times difficult. Social isolation is a painful process. Hope you succeed ahead,thanks for the video.

Well you have to go through the grind. Being an American trained physician opens up the whole world for you. Also in this day of social media you guys should well informed about the whole process. Main thing is to get your immigration status in order. Once in the US it’s not that difficult as there is severe shortage of physicians and other health care providers. But you have to work your ass off. Good luck.

Just say "I haven't passed yet." Don't take it as a failure but see it as a learning opportunity. There is a lot of power in "Yet"; you are telling yourself that you will get there and that your eyes and heart are still fixed on your goal.

The whole process is UK or the US is truly dependent on your personality as he said, in oriental countries we consider the high rank and how much exams we did and passed, while in developed countries it is completely different process, you pass the exams but then you face other challenges you never considered.

superb Explanation of US training and system and visa. One thing to add for J1 2 year home rule. There are multiple types of waivers available to apply for J1 , two year home rule. 1. Prosecution, 2 Hardship, 3 HHS waiver, 4 Conard, 5 Delta regional, some others

Hi Manik, thank you for your video. I noticed that your perspective is very limited based on your description - most probably because you've only been in residency for a short time, and because you are in a Psychiatry residency which is DRASTICALLY different in nature to other types of residency programs; most IMG's go into Internal Medicine or something similar, where culture is VERY different. You are working very easy hours, and it sounds like your hospital program is nice to it's residents, where people respect you. This is NOT typical in most programs in the US. They work residents VERY hard, and especially the first few years, in medicine/surgery they are not treated well. Salary is also very variable based on what you are doing, and where. Most Psychiatrists are making 200 - 250k a year in the US, unless they are open to working in very random rural settings where there is a shortage of physicians, where they would have to compromise on their lifestyle/diversity experience, as they tend to be in places where a significant majority of patients are not multi-cultured, and so things like food options, etc would be tough. Just some observations, I hope you can consider these things as you go along your journey, and keep this perspective in mind. While some people will tell you that they are offered 450k, etc, they are far and few in between, and people like to give misleading numbers.

Thanks for this comment, I didn't know about much of what you were addressing, but I think that given the fact that Manik was fortunate to secure a University-based program residency it made things much better especially with regards to how residents are treated.... I guess when it comes to living in rural settings and the way you depicted it.. you may not believe it... but my dream is actually to work in such a place. I don't necessarily "dislike" diversity and multiculturalism per se, as a matter of fact it would be hypocritical to have negative attitude towards these themes & at the same time go around trying to get Matched in a place that was established and built by people who respect and adhere to these principles, so I'm all for diversity and multiculturalism, but I'd rather settle down in a rural place where I'm much more likely to be surrounded by people who have a sense of unison and harmony. What I mean is that if an IMG decides to chose such places it might be that he/she actually never had these things in mind in the firs place (I know you are not stigmatizing this choice or anything but believe me some do!) and he/she chose it because it feels more chill and suitable for his/her personality and preferences. I'd rather live in a rural area than in NY or any big city in Cali or Texas... and this is coming from someone who is a Syrian, born and raised in Saudi Arabia, went to medcschool in Sudan and now living Turkey (I've literally lived in 3 continents)...

@@manikmadaan congratulations on securing your position, and thank you truly for helping the IMG's who strive to come to the US to study. Your work is very valuable, as there are very few individuals who go out of their way to share their experiences and provide guidance on these matters. I figured I would comment since I am very familiar with many programs and IMG residents, and it sounds like your experience is unique/extra-ordinary, as you are in a top tier program in a relatively relaxed specialty. This tends to not be the case for the majority of students who come to the US, who go into medicine or surgery, and they are worked very hard, over 100+ hours/week, and have very little guidance once they get here with regards to how to navigate everything. There is a huge learning curve, and the first year or two are truly very difficult.

, thank you for sharing your story. But Everyone could be different, two years ago -my husband was a resident he got a 3400 after tax per month ( not every program allows moonlighting).we had 1500 usd to pay as loans. So life was tough. But so worth it.

Great and informative video. Most of your points seem relevant and well thought out. A few things that I'd like to point out are that currently in Psychiatry in India, in many institutes you now have access to technology that you would not be able to use hands on in the US. Especially in the top most institutes such as CIP, NIMHANS and manipal. I have personally had access to HDtDCS, rTMS and fMRI, giving treatment and doing scans for more than 40 patients in my 3 year tenure as a JR. Most of my colleagues were involved in the same using different protocols and different types of machines for stimulation. This is something which I think you don't have the freedom to do even in the US or UK, please correct me if I'm wrong. We have also had the chance to try latest pharmacotherapies from Endoxifen to Vortioxetine. Apart from that we also had weekly journal clubs, seminars and case conferences in which we present in front of close to 30 faculty members, from Psychiatry professors to psychology professors who correct us and guide us regarding the same. So as far as the academic aspects are concerned I'd say that in the top most institutes there's equal or better exposure in India thanks to the patient load and willingness to try experimental therapies. Would love to hear your take on this.

Hi, I’m an orthopaedic consultant working in India for the last 15 + years and consider myself to be very competitive. My academic background is also not bad considering my All India PG entrance rank of 9, post graduate training in one of the best institutions like MAMC, Delhi. Now that I have done enough work in my home country, I wish to work in the US, I had a short stint in the UK too which I didn’t enjoy much apart from the training , honestly …….. I donno if my American dream would be considered unrealistic ……. What are my chances of landing an Orthopedic residency in the US considering I’m already 43 yrs old? Kudos to your channel. Hello Big fan of your work. I just need an info, Not going to take much time of you, as i know you must be very busy. I’m a Med graduate from india. I’m of 2k12 batch, passed my final year exams in year 17 without any backlogs but then i took a break from internship to write USMLE exam but that didn’t go as planned due to Covid and personal reasons. I completed my internship in 2023 ( with a 6 years gap) I still want to pursue USMLE cos it’s been my dream forever. I want to know If my break in internship which reflects in my CV is going to effect my admission into MD courses ? Or should i have to drop the idea ? I’d be glad if you take some time to give me a response. Thank you.

I am having trouble to decide wether i should study for the USMLE or not😒 usually in the Us doctors have a good salary which is the only reason i think i should take the exam. Never liked being in the medical field. Plus, all this talk about "how 9 to 5 jobs are lame, you should work for your self, blah blah blah" made me have second thoughts about this whole thing
