Nah, Qualcomm will not lose the flagship segment so easily and so early. MediaTek is no competition to them in that segment, also Kirrin, after losing their access to TSMC and SMIC, its also not a threat. Only competition is Samsung Exynos reaching close to them in terms of CPU but their Mali GPU still lacks. Wait for 1 more year, we might get Samsung's own GPU (in partnership with AMD) and then Samsung might put only their Exynos chips in their flagship phones all over the world, which they definitely would want. SAMSUNG CONFIRMED THE NEW GPU WITH AMD FOR NEXT YEAR 2022 FLAGSHIPS!

The windows inconsistency is not a bug, it's a feature. This way, you can tell how advanced and how likely-to-break-your-system the setting is, based on how dated does the UI look

From my experience: The more dated the UI, the more reliable it is...
@mthf5839
@mthf5839 3 жыл бұрын
@@malamuger93 reliable? Maybe most of the time. But let me tell you about a bios issue I had a couple months back (it was a traditional-looking bios, I hope we agree that is fairly dated). I was trying to change the boot options as to make my computer boot into GRUB, instead of the windows bootloader. Problem No1: my boot drive was listed only once in the boot order list. It turned out that when I press enter while the boot drive is selected, a submenu featuring my two bootloaders (so just a counter-intuitive design choice). Problem No2: no matter how many times I tried, the submemu immidiatelly reverted to windows in the first place right after I exited the submemu. In my frustration, I (systematically) pressed all keys on my keyboard... and guess what, f10 triggered a "do you wish to save changes" dialog. But there was no indication that I need to press f10 anywhere, and the boot order list itself did not have this reverting behavior. I also found a couple tutorials that promised to fix the issue from the windows command line (a pretty dated interface as well, especially since I had to green text on black), which did nothing (as far as I can tell).

@@mthf5839 The BIOS of a system is its own pair of shoes though, technically it has nothing to do with Windows or MS. Depending on what BIOS it is and how it was implemented they can be pretty enervating at times, I agree. But with Windows I noticed the more modern the interface the less trust you can put in it. I like the new design(s) most of the time, but MS fails to translate the old functionality comprehensively and/or properly into the new apps and settings.

I really hope the Windows rejuvenation digs a bit deeper than unifying some color palettes. What is much more impactful of my perception of windows are the bad animations and half baked touchpad gestures. A couple examples: Opening the start menu is a combination of fade in and slide in. Unfortunately the animation timing curves are such that you can only see the sliding animation once the menu if halfway up, which makes it look choppy. The easing is also not strong enough. Another common problem is delay. This can be found on the when opening the notification panel or going into Task View, which not only has a delay itself if you have multiple virtual desktops, but also delays showing the window titles until the animation is finished, which looks glitchy. As for the trackpad gestures. Switching virtual desktops works, but the acceleration is off and the taskbar is glitchy. Going into Task View is even worse as the gesture just emulates a button. I really hope the team focuses on fixes these small interaction problems.

Windows inconsistency is a nightmare but at least all the old looking pieces offer a lot to tweak like having 1 printer "installed" several times with presets like my "5" printers I can select easily "1.1 HP - singlesided - black" "1.2 HP - doublesided - black" "2.1 HP - singlesided - colour" "2.2 HP - doublesided - colour" "3 HP - envelope - black" 1 printer but 5 times installed with different name explaing the preconfiguration. Works great but needs the old UI to get it done.

If you do not know what I'm talking about; they improved accessibility, made their boxes and remote controls more eco-friendly, improved their Quantum LED technology better in Neo QLED by adding 2 more bits for 4000 new gradients for a pixel and made the pixels smaller, introduced "Screens for all" in which they announced a TV for outdoors, a TV for art, a movie projection system that goes up to 130 inches, a TV to connect to your phone, and a TV that is furniture, and finally they introduced a TV with Micro LED's that is 110 inches corner-to-corner and that has too many features to list and possibility for modularity.

I agree with your general sentiment: that’s a meaningless comparison. And I use a Mac with a 120 Hz monitor. I know how much better it feels than 60 Hz once you’re used to it. On the one hand, if 120 Hz is the only thing you care about in a phone, get the original Razer Phone or another old flagship. I bet somebody is selling it at the price of a new, budget-ish phone. On the other, if Apple cared about 120 Hz alone, and not the important things you have to get right alongside it: iPhone-scale yields, uniformity across the display, lack of flicker, and most importantly, adaptive refresh rate to dynamically ramp the display down to save power when displaying a static image or lower FPS video... If Apple didn’t care about all those things, we’d already have 120 Hz iPhone models. Between the reasons above, however, 120 Hz for iPhone was not feasible last year. Budget Android manufacturers have shown they have much lower standards for panel quality, so I welcome them to capitalize on consumers who only care about the specs on the box. It’s the consumers’ loss. Everything, including faster display refreshing, is paid for in battery life. This year Apple made a choice (one which I don’t appreciate) to use 5G modems which are both more power hungry and larger, leaving less room for big batteries. The batteries inside the 12 and 12 Pro Max are smaller than the previous generation, and battery life is worse. If there were a bunch of manufacturers making iPhone, I’d have recommended the hypothetical manufacturer that chose to use an Intel modem and stuff a high refresh rate screen in there, but that’s not how it works.

Fingers crossed they do fix tablet mode. I have little faith in Panays vision of 10X. It's too curated. Recent live changes to windows 10 too. This has convinced me they've lost the valued spirit of live tiles and degraded them back to widgets at the developers control. That is the issue I have. Live tiles should be more at control of the end user as they can control their own visual workflow. That to me breaks the personal in pc. It's not personal any more it's becoming a kiosk of curated choice, not personal choice in a pc. The earlier versions and windows phone got that right. It was great refreshing. The new reminds me more of Apple. But if they still want to be more Apple, why don't they just stop with windows just go with Apple OS and make that better, just like they do now with the chrome engine? It just feels like they're doing the same strategy as what they finally did with windows phone, of which we know how that unfortunately ended. I don't think Panay will meaningfully change the tablet experience beyond what we know today, which will likey be some kind of spin off from iOS for iPad. I personally think the current tablet mode of windows is fine, it just needs a lot of refinement of the framework and hopefully finally proper app snapping in both landscape and portrait mode which has practically stood still for almost 5 years, even as Apple picked up the pace where Microsft left off. Still mind-boggling to this day Microsft never got round to updating this feature. Still waiting for this feature on windows 10 after 7 years (including experience of windows phone and expectations for windows 10 tablet mode experience). Microsft is simply years behind. Even with a promise for a better tablet mode I have little faith they can pull it off meaningfully, because they couldn't manage it the last 5 years. I don't see this management pull this off now. I think Microsfts strength lies in business innovation solutions. I think realistically they should be more clear in their mission stetement and not vaguely include consumers. Frankly I think it would be wiser for Microsft to make a new sister company to take the best of windows and the unique live tile branding in tablet and mobile devices, expand greatly on its functionality, including the team improving the chrome engine and make beautiful supplementary software for consumers on android OS and iOS, that what Android and Apple can not manage and make great software for Android and iOS products. I think that's something Microsft is showing they can do well. The surface duo one software and hardware wise for me has been an anticlimax compared to my followup device of the lumia 950xl and windows 10 mobile and the expectations from the long rumored courier creative mobile productivity device. The duo to me is truly a device in an identity crisis. I was left thinking what am I to do with this beyond what I can on a current smartphone. If the software complemented meaningfully in a relevant UI overall, with live tiles functionality expansion at the end users control, not the develooper, I think the device would have been disruptive. I am now left thinking what is meaningfully left for Microsoft in the peoples space and that Microsft should be more clear they are truly bigger business oriented.

Once a week upload is really not helping the channel, I never see a new upload in my feed on time, always a day or two late. I know I know, the constraints and the motive behind this scheduling but still just saying. Selected the bell for always!

I kind of agree. There's so much tech and tech-related news in one week that other interesting stories are unfortunately left out (or less relevant after a week). Ultimately though it's still up to him.

Why tho? 4 series snapdragons are a waste of money, there is so little difference between it and 6 or 7 series price-wise that 4 series should have never even been made

No phone in this price bracket (150 - 250€) comes without a price. It may be personal data, advertisement, terrible update policy or whatever else. But I do not believe, that we will see good, sustainable and secure smartphones for this price. I simply do not believe that capitalism is working like that.

I mean there are android one phones by Nokia and Motorola in that price range, at the cost of a slightly worse hardware. And Xiaomi phones actually have a pretty decent update policy at the cost of MiUI being full of bloat, ads and tracking.

@@thelakeman2538 That‘s exactly what I mean. Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo and their sub brands all have more or less acceptable hardware, but privacy and bloatware is more than questionable. And as seen with ZTE or Huawei, you never know when the U.S. ban hammer will hit the next chinese OEM. Motorola lives of its name. Their products aren‘t really impressing at all and software support is terrible. As a former Nokia 7.1 owner I can say that Nokia updated their phones quite regularly but, boy oh boy, they struggle with software bugs and most of them never got fixed. I think the whole purpose of this SoC is, that OEMs could write 5G on their cheaper devices.

@@s.l.1147 I always assumed Motorola phones were pretty good for the price due to the high amount of positive reviews, a clean software experience, and some of my friends who had them having a positive opinion of them, but I did know Nokia suffered from software bugs. There are ways to remove almost all the bloat and ads from Xiaomi and Oppo phones (I did that to a realme and a redmi device), but yeah for the average user who buys phones in that price range even access to a PC might be a problem.

@@thelakeman2538 I think there is big a difference between Motorola as an independent OEM and Motorola as a part of Lenovo. I think their software support got worse of the last few years. Many of their phones run on outdated software and worse, run on outdated security patches. I would struggle to remove most software, simply because I do not own a PC anymore, because at work I use my work laptop and at home my Note 10+ and Dex are enough „PC“.
