Escaped federal prisoner Andrew Kristovich walked out of a minimum security federal prison camp in Oregon and coerced his ex-girlfriend into picking him up. Then she says he viciously sexually assaulted her, stole her car, phone and debit card, then went on the run ditching the car in Edmonds, Washington where he has family. Kristovich was eventually tracked down near Carson City, Nevada where he surrendered to a SWAT team.
Plus, Mike Al-Aboudy the missing brother of murder victim Arkan Al-Aboudy turns up after two months and calls The Spotlight. He tells The Spotlight where he’s been and what he thinks happened to his brother.
And we hear from Shaun Scott, an activist who wrote an article for Crosscut called "The time to abolish Seattle police was yesterday."

Exactly halving the bail of a man who's accused of attacking a man with an axe with the attempt to kill. We need to arm ourselves and protect ourselves if the police can't do their job and state won't let them.

I know there was one that tried to set our store on fire a few weeks ago they also let out one of the maga protestors from the protest in 2020. I never understood it myself they finally find the fugitive and just let them go but I think sometimes cops hate their jobs that much. Its a selfish, "why me?" Type of mentality were they pretend to care about the towns safety.

@iMatti00

A lot of people started voting for more left wing officials because all the typical prosecutors and law enforcement officials were doing things that were wrong. Overlooking hostility do every day people that were poor, corruption in criminal cases, Railroading innocent people in the prison, etc. And for you not to know about this shows that you have tunnel vision. Of course you can claim that you do know about it, but then that might be just as bad because you cannot even write a new once comment. Maybe you should invest some time to look at all the people who have been proven innocent. It reminds me of the Central Park five who were criticized by Donald Trump when he went on a campaign against them decades ago, then they proved the confessions were false, Donald Trump still railed against them saying they were guilty even after they had been proven innocent, and this includes proving them innocent based on DNA. But Donald Trump would never admit they were innocent and in fact still continue to say they were guilty. And this is how many “law and order“ people behave. They can’t admit when they’re wrong. Now this is not necessarily only the people who are more right wing, but it was the left-wing people who came in to say they were going to review convictions and bad practices. You should look up something I think is called “legal finality“ or something like that. Judges will literally say that the evidence that has been uncovered about someone in prison would be enough defined them not guilty if the trial was today or if they had all of this evidence back when the trial happened, based on the “rule of finality“ (or whatever it’s called) means that they have to stay in prison. This rule/principal says that sometimes people just have to stay in prison because once the trial is over with we can’t keep going back and reviewing the same case. If they had enough evidence to say they could guarantee the person was innocent then they would let them out, but if they’re only 70% sure that they’re innocent they will not let them out. But if you’re only consider 30% likely to be guilty than a jury is never to convict you. But because the evidence was discovered years after the trial they care more about the system lOOKING like it did the right thing as opposed to actually doing the right thing. Also you should look up a case of a man who is recently finally released from prison in Missouri, very conservative Missouri. The judge literally said this man was actually innocent. But he said actually being innocent was not enough to release him from prison because there wasn’t a state law that allowed somebody to be released from prison if they were actually innocent unless they were actually on death row. So if you’re on death row and you’re proved to be actually innocent you have to be released, but if you only have life in prison then you have to stay in there. He’s been another five years in present before he was finally released. It’s another black man. Now this happens to both black and white people, but when Black people say it happen more and more to them and nobody cares or does anything about it, they’ve had enough. So what happened is that so many voters were tired of this that they decided to make a change.c

Robberies are also extremely common in the university district. Now I know why. UW police are useless. They don’t do any form of crime intervention, they just send out alerts when crimes are committed and tell people "stay safe". I get alerts almost daily for muggings, robberies, car jackings ect.
@iMatti00
@iMatti00 Жыл бұрын
It’s called prevention instead of only reacting afterward. I’m not saying I buy the argument, but I think the argument is understandable. It’s saying that they want to spend more money on solving the root cause of the problem. Why has crime increased so much. And why I have so many people went to jail. If you do research on the number of people in prison compared to in the 1960s it is staggering. So even as the country was getting safer and safer still more people were being locked up. Of course it’s easy to assume that the country was getting safer simply because people were being locked up longer. And that would make sense to me. But I did listen to one talk where they showed how crime went down in Canada as well the same as it went down in the United States over the past 50 years even though Canada‘s incarceration rates stay the same and ours sword bye I think 800%. But I think this has to do with drugs. Some people say it’s actually the war on drugs more than drugs. I don’t know. And when you do change a system like how many people are changing the system now, it’s gonna go through growing pains.

I am hearing too much about financing, economics, and investments and not enough on the community's stance on what they want and will do against violent crimes. The police are not YOUR security; they are the beginning point of the judicial system and enforcers of the community. Again, they will not protect YOU as an individual. If the police can not be at the scene of the crime when YOU need them too, YOU need to be the opposing force against the aggressor. I talked with a Canadian recently, living in fear of all the violent crimes happening in this county with no certainty that he would sleep peacefully or safely. If you are American, you have the right to a firearm that expats do not have. With that right, you can choose to be a victim, or choose to be a armed, law-abiding citizen. The police follows the same rules of engagement and use of lethal force just the same as any other American. The only advantage that a police deputy has over a citizen is that they have more resources to back them up when lethal force is used - attorneys, paid leave, and caring teammates. On the contrary, the armed, law-abiding citizen's resources are more limited, yet more selective - get better training or get better equipment, as well as the advantage that comes with your home territory (police are going into a incident scene blind). We as human beings and Americans have the tools and abilities to overcome this as a community. We just need to stop being cowards and make ourselves accountable.

How much is a police officer’s life worth? It’s priceless! Pay our police officers well. Keep the police! To abolish the police system would literally ruin everything you can always ask to “remodel” the police department but you cannot just take the police away and put together a whole new SPD in the same day. Yes, push social progress forward but not at the expense of making our officers feel invaluable and disrespected. There are not just UW and private police groups for private campuses running around all over the city and those private policing agencies are not for the public. They are to protect private properties and companies specifically. Defunding and abolishing the police is a huge recipe for disaster. I listened to this whole conversation and I think we can always work on improving things but abolishing the police is way to extreme and would ruin this city. At the cost of how many peoples lives is this extremist view going to be at the expense of if they become successful in getting rid of our police? This is a threat to take away our public safety which is the foundation of cities/states/the country. I was homeless and it was SPD that actually saved me and aided in getting me my housing back! These officers have been so respectful to me as an individual and have been so helpful and protective throughout my whole life. I love SPD and I want our officer’s to know that they are loved. I think that people are being helped and being given a lift up by the police where it concerns the homeless and I think the housing crisis is a completely separate issue and I think that people who think that SPD should be abolished should all be on a government watchlist and viewed as possible criminals who are threatening to take away Seattle’s public safety which could also be a larger issue and become a national security threat. There is no excuse to abolish SPD. Do you have any idea what all the different kinds of police people do for you? They put their life on the line everyday to serve people and protect people at the same time. Taking away SPD is not the answer! we need more police now more than we ever have needed them. The housing crisis should be viewed as a crime and be submitted to crime stoppers and the movement to abolish the police should be viewed as another crime and should also be submitted to crime stoppers as a separate investigation in Seattle. The housing crisis is an issue for the Seattle Housing Authority and King County Housing Authority and an issue for the Mayor who changed and helped many lives so far this year at Greenlake/Woodland park area. and our housing crisis is no excuse to make a public movement to take away SPD. It was SPD west precinct in downtown who helped get me my housing back! It took me trusting them and going in everyday to check in to get the help that I received. And they helped me without arresting me. SPD is really good at being able to see through issues and know who is the victim of a crime and who is the true criminal. People should be applauding SPD - not scapegoating them as the problem for our housing crisis! People saying abolish or defund SPD should be not only ashamed of themselves for slandering and defamating the police in this interview; they should also watch their mouths when threatening our city’s public safety. This interview makes me feel terrorized as a Seattle citizen hearing what the excuses given by people who say abolish the police or defund the police. I am glad the news did this interview to publicize that our public safety, law & order, and our law enforcement is under a serious attack. God bless Seattle. God bless our Mayor. God bless our law enforcement personnel. God bless America. And God bless our public safety because it may almost become another crisis unless citizens and the news were to file reports with Crime Stoppers (which for Seattle crime you will need to file with Tacoma or Renton location Crime Stoppers because Seattle specific crime stoppers reporting is currently unavailable but Renton and Tacoma will pass off the report to the correct Crime Stoppers employees that handle the Seattle location.) Police reports should also be made with SPD in person and Washington State Patrol in person about these two separate crimes. Public safety being #1 and the housing crisis at #2. And if anyone feels terrorized as I do from the possibly extremist group who wants to abolish SPD you should make another police type of report with the Department of Homeland Security and/or the Federal Bureau of Investigation and or the Central Intelligence Agency because the issue of threatening Seattle’s public safety is actually THAT big of a deal. SPD could sue the abolish the police group and the defund the police group for defamation and slander and incorrectly scapegoating them for the housing crisis that Seattle is experiencing. Have you ever heard the phrase, “Don’t shoot the messenger” instead make a police report for the housing crisis to all policing agencies so that they can all work together in their jurisdictions to investigate the housing crisis and get to the bottom of what is actually going on. The police can’t do anything unless a report is first made…then they can investigate the issue to see if it is indeed a true crime or not. I am hoping that this news station will read my comment and stand up for Seattle as one unified voice and make the necessary reports to help create some real resolution to these issues from this interview!
