Renouncing desires is a core tenet within the great Eastern spiritual traditions. Desires continually consume people's minds. But what if I were to tell you that desires themselves are the world? What does that mean? In this episode of The Sacred Word, I will explain an important verse from the Ashtavakra Gita, a text one is ready to assimilate after enlightenment. The Ashtavakra Gita is for those who want to absorb themselves in the presence of the Ultimate Reality after awakening.

There are many paradoxes in life and I’d say there are contradictions within spiritual teachings which I won’t expand on here, however, with all desires comes suffering. And this is true, wether you get what you want or wether you don’t get what you want will bring about suffering. They say ask and it is given, well, how can I ask (God) the infinite Devine intelligence for anything if I already am and already have everything? By merely asking we are saying God has missed something. Isnt this Devine intelligence the “knower” of all things and knows what I need and do not need? This is why I do not ask for anything in prayer, I merely show gratitude for all things, and that means for all the things of this world we deem as good or bad (duality) or challenging, painful etc. And we are also told that we are powerful beings/creators and we can manifest anything into existence. Well, for me, I strongly feel that equanimity plays a big part when “desiring” peace. It’s comes down to the parable of the farmer and the horse....”maybe yes, maybe no”. Whenever something good or bad happens it does not move you one way or the other, you remain in the middle in equanimity because in the moment it’s either good or bad but we don’t know what’s coming next so “maybe yes, maybe no”...(good or bad), it’s all the same and it’s all meant for us🙏🏼💜🇨🇦

"... whether you get what you want..." A "wether" is a castrated ram, as a "gelding" is a castrated stallion. A "bellwether" is a wether with a bell around his neck to lead the flock. Hence, "bellwether" stock, etc.

JIVA is but a manifestation of the BRAHMA although in the third dimension. Renunciation of desire is "not exclusive detachment from desire" BUT PURSUIT OF DESIRE FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF DETACHMENT.

Before there was any thing, there was only an infinite ocean of potential energy. You are familiar with this; the energy that can not be created nor destroyed, only changed in form. The force of creation that caused awareness to rise from potential is the inherent desire to become something. This is what all traditions call "Spirit". From this mental state, time/space and matter arose for the sake of experience. But why? Because in the mental state, we desired to touch, to taste, to smell, to EXPERIENCE. The world is desire, because it has arisen from desire, plain and simple.

One never knows if trying to help a person actually helps them or hurts them in the long run. It seems cruel to say "I just don't care what the world does", but it also demonstrates an honesty of realizing that you can not control this world of Maya, nor should you wish to. Being objectively honest does not feel good to your ego, but if you desire freedom and truth it is essential, lest Maya and your own personal illusion hold you in bondage throughout your life.

Just wanted to thank you Jason for all your work. I really think this examination of the old texts and teachings is so critical, I appreciate your wealth of knowledge. I get a little annoyed or amused, depending on the day, with the liberal western world, watching them be in denial about the usefulness of these old teaching, but adopting a yoga class, buddha in the garden cultural veneer while sneering at the notion of a real spiritual practice. Our old friend Mara i suppose.. all the best!

Thank you for this excellent video. You have a gift for revealing some of the most important aspects of Eastern philosophy. I can clearly see how desire brings an emotional aspect to our view of reality which distorts the true image. Unconciously through emotion we are bending reality to see what we want to see just like a prism. This is a very important concept and I will take time to reflect on it. Thank you and I wish you well.

But what if, once you realize this, you choose to help others? So Avalokiteshvera realized this but as he was entering Brahman he turned back and saw an animal, some say it was a fox some a hare, and he saw that it was injured and he turned back to enlightenment and told his Uncle there that he could not justify his own lack of suffereing while there was inarguably so much suffering occuring. His Uncle said, "I understand! But if you are to go back i must give you one hundred eyes to see the suffereing, and one hundred arms to cure it." And so Avalokiteshvera became a Bodhisattva, one who puts off there enlightenment until all sentient beings have the option of entering enlightenment together. And so became the Second Turning of the Wheel of Dharma. What do you think? -Laurence Pennington, reincarnation of the Abbott of Hanle Monastery PS. An EXCELLENT analysis by the way! PSS. Now add the current discussion on the physical existence of a consciousness field (analogous to the Higs field). Do you understand?

where does the colour come from? If one can arrive at a place without question and reside in acceptance, does that not suggest that we Brahman /Atman desire experience. I do feel a pull towards the indifferent to enable the truth, experience itself is the cause of emotion. Seems counter-productive to arrive at an ultimate goal. My logic says one can only be the three as awareness enables the one to exist. To be one with the one does my head in. Shanti Shanti Shanti

Renouncing desires is impossible. It’s urges we have. We can discriminate between the desires which will serve us to reach our highest spiritual selves and those that are too materialistic and will not serve us. But to let go of every desire is not possible.

For experiencing and learning the lessons already encompassed in brahman in entirely different dimension. Challenges on this dimension are but mental constructs to confine the infinite within you if you allow it to block you. Fight the challenges or Manifest the heaven on earth itself by attainment of true spiritual knowledge and raising your vibration and believing in magic... Choice is completely yours.❤

Why should people seek for the end of reincarnation? Wouldn't it be against the Brahman purpose and great will? If Brahman is the absolute essense of the multiverse that shapeshifted and molded itself internally into the very shapes of our illusionary world, couldn't this be its will. Perhapts to have the experience of living, of interacting with something else rather than ITself, it shapeshifted into many characters of a big story for the enjoyment of playing this big play. Perhaps create a new story of "enligntent" people which are contiousnoss or semi-contiousnous about brahman would be its current will, but to look for waking up (escape samsara and becaming ONE brahman again) wouldn't be the opposite for whatever it was doing the create the existence in first place? By the way, it's not a critisism, I like your videos. I'm justing phylosofing a bit about all of that.

whether people should, or not, is a personal choice. when a soul has had many incarnations, it may choose to exit the wheel of samsara, the cycle of birth and rebirth, with its attendant suffering and confusion, and instead return to its source, the source of all light and peace and bliss. nothing is against the will of brahman; everything that happens, is in accordance with the will of brahman.

@@michaelgusovsky Wouldn't this peace and bliss state be temporary as once atma becames brahman it would eventually just start all over again? If everything is the uncounciously sleeping Brahman fragments and Brahman started everything by manifesting a world of selfs inside itself, what is to be against the will of brahman? Wasn't maya brahman's will, at first place?

@@otavio.a.8.r peace and bliss are not temporary states, they are our true nature, they are the nature of the unchanging. we can forget our true nature, but even then it doesn't go away, just as clouds can cover the sun, but it is still there behind the clouds, shining brightly.
