ORIGINAL INFO: Maybe all that The Thing wanted was a hug? Did no one ever stop to ask?
RUMINATIONS: Aaaand here’s where everything ramps up to full intensity. It’s actually one of the longer storyline segments that’s not a storyline finale. The thing about drama between people who are normally friendly to each other is that the conflict has to be believable or else it just becomes annoying. As such, I drew upon some of the critiques people had had with the storyline in order to create plausible conflict - the audience wondering if the Entity was back, Dr. Linksano’s inability to actually do anything scientific and the lack of the threat of Lord Vyce to keep him in check, characters being gone for long stretches of time, the mobile emitter’s theft, Linkara being gone for such a long time… it’s all completely plausible and the conflict had kind of been boiling for months, anyway. As would be explained at the end of the Halloween storyline, the shadow creature didn’t actually MAKE them think or do anything - just exacerbated their already-existing stresses and aggression. They were a powder-keg ready to go off - the situation just lit the fuse.
Speaking of, the effect of the shadow creature is not as good as I had hoped it to be. As the name implies, I wanted it to actually emerge from Linksano’s shadow. I’m not exactly a special effects wizard, as you may have noticed, but people still said it was creepy when it first appeared, so hey, I’ll take it as a win.
