So thankful I have stumbled upon your channel. I am having my VSG surgery 12/12/18, and I have not heard one single thing about transfer addiction. I haven’t heard about a lot of things you have talked about in your video... So thank you! Thank you for opening up and sharing your journey! ❤️

So true, hunger returns usually around 12 months from VSG. From zero to back to normal. Yes the thing that changes is your body the problems we have before are still there until we resolve them. I look forward to the DS this year revision post op almost 10 years VSG. Transfer addiction seems normal to me, but I prefer shopping! Best of luck hope you are doing well today!

Cripes, I've been experiencing the whole coming-out-of-invisibility thing. It's hard to realize that people I see every week are noticing me and treating me more positively than they ever have before, when the only difference is that I weigh less. It makes me want to ignore externalities, notice attractive personalities, and be kinder to the people around me. Thank you for the insights. There's a lot to unpack and consider here.

Thank you for your transparency regarding the emotional issues following WLS. I had a Roux-en-Y in 2004. Regained the weight slowly after hitting that 201 plateau. I thought life post-surgery was going to be an emotional paradise, after all except for the weight I was "PERFECT". the only revision surgery that will make a difference in weight is the Duodenal Switch. My Surgeon is checking with my insurance but in the meantime I am getting myself prepared. I need that reminder that the surgery is only a tool, there is still work on our part. The after effects of surgery are no different from a person recovering from substance addictions. The emotional issues that drove us to eat come to surface. We are or at least me am recovering from an eating disorder. In my case it is Binge eating disorder ( DSM-5). Again, thank you for your transparency.

I agree about the pics...keeping track of your progress in photos. Also, take a really good, dress up photo and place it in a nice photo folder and DONT LOOK AT IT AGAIN TILL YOU HIT YOUR TARGET WEIGHT. Once you hit your target- record on your video or cell phone what you see and feel and mean it...what YOU DID.

So much of this resonated with me and really echoed some of my recent thoughts. The idea of transfer addiction freaks me out - I can see myself floundering to find a new go-to and I don't like what I am tending towards. I am goung to attempt to focus on exercise in a hope that will become my addiction! The invisibility that comes with being morbidly obese had also become a comfort to me - I feel very exposed now and I get a lot of attention, which is nice and frughtening all at once. Ugh....total mind f*ck.

I loved the idea of hobbies! I am still trying to figure out how to spend my time. Mindless eating comes back over time. One thing I wish I knew was the increased risk of kidney stones post WLS. Regarding transfer addiction. I’m in the beginning stages of my surgery journey and we have to see the whole panel of drs involved in the process here (in South Africa) if you are wanting your Medical aid to pay. One dr is a psychiatrist and he gave us a talk and an interesting fact is that it has been documented that if BEFORE surgery, you are used to about 15 units of alcohol a week (a glass of wine with lunch and dinner daily and maybe an extra glass on the weekend (15 units for the week), then AFTER surgery, your chances of becoming an alcoholic are MUCH greater 😱. It’s to do with the way your body metabolizes alcohol. Scary!
@GinaMarieUT4 жыл бұрын
Yikes. That’s crazy. In the US- or in Utah- we also see a psychiatrist but they never even mentioned transfer addiction. We didn’t talk about alcohol because I don’t drink. That’s crazy though! Good info.

I just watched your video where you talk about body dysmorphic. I am experiencing that now. I am 3 weeks out from having VSG (9.26.19). I feel as though I am not loosing weight and I change with size in clothing. In fact I feel like I have gained and I do not understand how when I am taking in between 300-500 calories a day. I do not eat sweets or cookies nor drink any Coke Zero no sodas (period). Yes it is freaking me out. Water wise I am struggling to get my 64 ounces in as well as my protein. And yes I push myself but my tummy holds so much and I do become nauseous easy. Any encouraging words would be so helpful right now. Thank you. I love watching your videos. You are a Beautiful Blessing.

Teresa Webb Thank you! You’re so sweet. Honestly- stay consistent- if you are really eating that much in calories- your weight will come off. I would definitely try to get your water in because that definitely comes into play too. Your body could be retaining water. If this lasts too long I would consult your doctor but I think if your consistent- you will see results. Also it wouldn’t hurt to be a little more active as well.

Cheryl Oldford That’s awesome!!! Through the whole process you’ll find that you need to celebrate the big and very little victories. Each moment counts. I’m doing ok. Down to 233 lbs. it’s been slower and I haven’t been the best with exercising but I’m convinced if I did it would help keep up my weight loss. Also, I started a new job 2 weeks ago that has sort of changed up the way I’ve been eating. I need to get back to meal prepping and get my protein in. I’m sure I will but with the work changes, I just needed to get myself to a comfortable place- which I am in now, so I’m ready to recommit. I’m excited to see just how much further I can go! I have spoken to a surgeon and am considering the surgery. I have lost the weight many times in the past and always, always, always put the weight back on. That is my biggest fear - That I will put myself through all of this and then gain it all back once again.
@GinaMarieUT4 жыл бұрын
Melonie Pittman I can understand that. Totally- but this is a different outcome and I feel, at least for me, I’ve been able to indulge in what I like every so often but don’t find the swift-automatic raise in the scale as before. I beat myself up in my mind way more than the scale hurts me since after the surgery.

Do you regret having this particular surgery? I'm trying to decide which surgery!
@GinaMarieUT2 жыл бұрын
Not at all!!! Here is why- with the standard DS, I heard a lot of horror stories with bowel movements and problems in that area and then with the sleeve- I heard people gaining weight back and it not being enough. For me, this was a mixture of the 2, and exactly what I wanted and needed. I knew they couldn’t just cut my stomach down with the sleeve- the my body would find a way to gain weight and (for me) I would need a little more help. You have to research and figure out what’s best for you- but I definitely do not regret my decision with this surgery. I’m so happy too because the choice of getting the right surgery for me, really stressed me out.

The hardest thing right now is my mental. I'm on the liquid diet and my mind is trying to play tricks on me 🤦🏽♀️. I won't be hungry but my mind will tell me to eat smh. I think about food and dream about it. That has literally never happened before, like WTF 😡. It's driving me crazy. Anyway any advice on that? I can truly use your advice right now because u came a long way.
@GinaMarieUT5 жыл бұрын
Egyptian Bruja Honestly, people can give you the all the advice in the world but sometimes it’s just about hunkering down and enduring. Chew sugarless gum. That might help. The mental game sucks. Remember there is a good reason they are having you do this. Trust the process. It’s dangerous if you don’t. You want to be successful and this will work. You will be able to eat. This won’t last forever. You can do this. If everyone else can- you can too. Just remember it won’t last forever. It will test your limits but you’ve got this. Try chewing sugarless gum and moderating between warm and cold liquids.
bygodsdesign2012 I plan on doing a video here shortly on Vitamins I use and also a quick update. Other than my laziness- I feel good. I will try to get that posted quickly.

Look at how thin your hair has gotten in the past 4 months. It is mal nutrition from the surgery.
@GinaMarieUT5 жыл бұрын
Vibrissa Tuft When you have significant weight loss quickly, you will lose hair. However, it’s starting to grow back again. I don’t know if it has anything with mal nutrition- I’ve never hindered on taking my bariatric vitamins or getting my protein in. It’s “natural” through the process but definitely something that wouldn’t stop me from doing it again. Plus the fact that I have under cabinet lighting behind me makes it look worse than it is.
@anitahoward85065 жыл бұрын
Wow, Vibrissa, keep the negative comments to yourself. The doctor tells you before the surgery, that you may have hair loss. It happens, but it is only temporary.
